Note to "Saturday Night Live": Betty White is Great, Prison Rape Jokes are Not

You know how you can tell someone is truly talented? They manage to host Saturday Night Live and come out with their reputation intact. That's the case with Betty White who hosted SNL and showed she was capable of rising above the material she was given. Mostly.

What worked?

The Opening Monologue.

The Census Taker sketch.

The Muffin Sketch. This perfectly demonstrated what is so brilliant about Betty..

MacGruber.  I still can't believe this bit has been turned into a movie, but at White managed to make it funny.

What didn't work.

But SNL really dropped the ball with the sketch Scared Straight. Can you imagine a sketch that was five minutes of jokes about women getting raped? I know we don't get care much about convicts in prison, but I have to say I'm really sick of Hollywood jokes about prison rape. It's a real issue, it's a horrible act of violence and it isn't funny. And it's hard not to believe that this is still okay to make fun of because, well, it's between two men which is icky.

The Manuel Ortiz Show. Gosh, rather than writing a sketch it, must be nice to fill up your time with lame dancing. And while the gay couple wasn't great by any means, they weren't awful either.

So what did you think?
