"Hollyoaks" video clip: The "Gay Tart of Hollyoaks" update.

On today's Hollyoaks clip, drama is given a welcome breather in exchange for straight comedy ... well, so to speak. John Paul's mother, Myra (who is warm and caring, and going to be completely devastated when she finds out about J.P. and Kieron), is convinced that he has a new boyfriend and is keeping it secret, but J.P. won't confirm or deny it.

When Elliot shows up and asks to speak to J.P. (and if you don't know Elliot's backstory, you can read it here - it's a doozy), Myra assumes he's J.P.'s secret boyfriend, and the "wacky misunderstandings" start.

The rest I'll leave you to discover, but here are a couple of choice quotes:

J.P. - "I'll help you with your telescope if you be my boyfriend"
Elliot - "I'm not a gay! They don't do that in Wales!"

J.P. - "I'm sick of it! You are the gay tart of Hollyoaks! You pretend to be with me, and the whole time you're just scanning the room for anything in trousers!"
Elliot - "Well, at least people know I exist! You are vain, arrogant and self-centered...and you're rubbish in bed!

What I love about UK soap operas is that they have the guts to break up heavy, emotional drama and go for pure comedy out of the blue. We've seen it before on Hollyoaks, and it's always a welcome diversion from the storm clouds that are inevitably on the horizon.

You can see today's Hollyoaks clip after the break, and be sure to come back for more updates.

American soaps can learn from this scene

To start with, Elliot was hilarious. He and John Paul really went to town in this scene. It is too bad American soaps like ATWT don't incorporate more humor like this. They tried with Casey pretending to be Luke's boyfriend, but the new actor playing Casey looks good sans shirt but he has yet to earn his acting chops.

I love Elliot, and I'm so

I love Elliot, and I'm so glad he's spending time with John Paul again. This scene is especially funny when you think about the scene back in December, when Myra first thought Elliot and John Paul were dating. Elliot said he didn't want people thinking he was a gay, because he had enough trouble interacting with women without them thinking he wasn't a sexual threat. :o)

I thought he looked great without the hat and glasses, but I'm glad to see Elliot looking like himself again.

    "I'm not a gay! They don't

"I'm not a gay! They don't do that in Wales!" says Elliot, the boy with Doctor Who and Torchwood posters adorning his walls. He should really know better.

Elliot is a brilliant character. His best moments are when he's out with Zak, Kris and John Paul, though I don't think they're on youtube.

Why did BBC America Drop Hollyoaks

Does anyone know whay it's not on the schedule anymore? Or are they going to bring it back? It's still on their website, just not on the schedule. Just discovered the story lines and have gotten caught up with the McQueens.

    Well

I was going to suggest the online stream in the BBC website, but as of June 6, they are going to terminate that as well. So I guess that is it for Hollyoaks in the US.

For the same reason any network in the US drops any show...

....because in the audience at large wasn't watching. :-(

It was on at 3 in the morning...

...they ran the show for a few weeks during primetime...mistake #1. Then they moved it to 2-3am in the morning. How could anybody watch? They never gave it a chance.

Plus...it's not like BBCA has a full line up of his shows...they could squeeze the show into a weekly marathon run of the prior weeks episodes.

If I were in charge of SoapNet...

...I'd schedule Hollyoaks and Verbotene Liebe every day at 6pm and 6:30pm (they're both half hour shows, right?). That channel is desparate for an audience, and that would be one way to shake things up.

    I share your enthusiam, but

I share your enthusiam, but let's keep it real.

The 'problem' TV channels face these days is quite simple: We all love these shows, but mostly for a very specific reason. Would you seriously be this enthusiastic about VL if Ollian were NOT on it? Would you even know it existed?

Let's face it: The folks who are seriously interested have means of seeing something these days other than traditional TV. The reason I didn't watch HOLLYOAKS on BBCA? Because they were months behind.

Same for VL: If they'd be only a WEEK behind Germany - would you REALLY still watch it after having seen the clips that matter on YouTube?

Plus if a larger audience couldn't be convinced with heavy promotion to watch a daily soap with a BRITISH ACCENT, how much harder would it be to convince them to watch them something in a foreign languge? :-) It's sad, but that's the way I feel it is...

Don't get me wrong ... I think it was a horrible decision to cancel HOLLYOAKS after such a short time and to see a German soap on US TV? I'd love it!! But I think it's fairly unrealistic.

I know, I know, but let me have my fantasy!

Heck, if you really want to know my fantasy, it would be a cable channel devoted to films and TV series from all around the world, not just so I could see these shows in their entirety, but because I think many Americans could use some introduction to world culture.

    I mention this everytime

I mention this everytime I comment on Hollyoaks, but I so love the family interactions. In the scene between Myra and John Paul, they're each keeping something from the other, and at the same time each is genuinely concerned about the other. You can tell there's a real bond there.

Elliot is wonderful and funny. I wonder if we would ever have heard Casey telling Luke that he's "rubbish in bed." The comedy in Hollyoaks is great because it lightens the mood amidst the drama, but it doesn't detract from the seriousness of the other events. I also love how they use Elliot for humour without making him just be the comic relief. He's a 3 dimensional character with real feelings and desires.

"I'll help you with your telescope if you be my boyfriend"

That is certainly one of the more interesting sentences in this clip, lol.

    This was a funny one

Great one liners in this one. That gay tart of Hollyoaks line had me laughing for a while.

Elliot is great. Its good to see him being funny in his awkwardness while not being the joke for it.

And JP is quite the temptation, I agree there with Kieron.

    BBCAmerica = Idiots

They're getting rid of the Hollyoaks webcasts?  This seriously sucks!  They are just now getting to the big John Paul-Craig reveal, which I've been looking forward to seeing in its entirety rather than cut up on Youtube.

The programmers at BBCAmerica are complete imbeciles and have no clue about their audience.  The Torchwood raitings are proof that American viewers are looking for edgier shows, yet most of the stuff on BBCA is mainstream crap. In addition to Hollyoaks, they should be airing shows like Skins-- riskier stuff we can't see over here.

    BBC American apparently

BBC American apparently thinks that constant reruns of gardening shows are the kind of exciting programming Americans will flock to! When I was living and going to school in England way back when we used to laugh about all the American talk about "quality" British TV when all we were seeing was gardening shows, sheepdog trials, and "Opportunity Knocks"!

    I didn't really know where

I didn't really know where else to post this. Channel 4 have commissioned a series of 5 episodes called Late Night Hollyoaks. Each episode will be 60 minutes long, and it will allow the writers to explore more adult concepts. It also heralds the return of Guy Burnet as Craig Dean.

Hollyoaks are quite notorious for their previous late-night specials. Some people love them, others think it's just so the writers can throw in a few swear words. There hasn't been any specials since Bryan Kirkwood became executive producer.

I see on Utube that apparently there will be a return of Guy's character - Dean!

    Wicked

I have never stopped loving Hollyoaks, even though it mysteriously vanished from any mention on AfterElton for like the past 8 months. And I totally agree... there's nothing like easing too much tension and drama in a soap than with a 100 milligram injection of pure comedic genius!
