News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

A video tribute to birthday boy "Spongebob Squarepants"!

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? With those words, a gay fave was born. Above you can see a clip from Band Geeks, my all-time favorite episode of Nickelodeon's Spongebob Squarepants, which celebrates it's tenth anniversary this week.

Why does Spongebob speak to so many gay men? Is it the clever, many-layered writing? The exuberant optimism of the title sponge, which is balanced perfectly by the pearl-clutching, over-the-top dramatics of "confirmed bachelor" Squidward? The um, "tomboy" traits of Sandy the Squirrel?

Or could it be that we automatically love anything that is attacked by awful people for being subversive?

No matter what the reasons are, I know I'm not the only gay man who loves the little yellow sponge from Bikini Bottom. Am I?

For a quick Spongebob fix, look below for a few clips from some classic musical episodes!
