ABC orders gay-inclusive sitcom pilot about families
ABC has ordered a pilot from the magical producing team of Steven Levitan and Chris Lloyd, who between them have helped bring us such gay faves as Frasier and The Golden Girls (they were also responsible for the dubious Back To You and Stacked ... but they can't all be winners). The unnamed pilot has an intriguing premise, and shows a lot of promise. It's about three families who have their lives recorded documentary-style by a Dutch filmmaker:
"It will revolve around a traditional married couple and their three kids; an older guy, his younger wife and their adopted son; and a gay couple who have just adopted an Asian infant. All three families live in the same suburb, and there’s a common thread that brings them all together. The Dutch documentarian, meanwhile, has returned to the U.S., where he lived with one of the American characters as an exchange student 15 or 20 years ago."
The producers looked to their own lives for inspiration, and say they don't want it to feel "like a soft, cutesy family show. This will be presented in a way that will be very relatable to people of all ages." There's no word on casting, but hopefully we'll get a chance to see one of the rarest things ever witnessed on television ... an actual gay family. Submitted by on Thu, 2008-08-28 12:57. |

I probably won't be able to watch this
Based on the description of the concept, I suspect it will be all that shaky-zoomy cam that's used on The Office. Sorry, I just don't think it should be necessary to take Dramamine before watching a television program.
