I didn't watch the emmys, but it doesn't surprise me that it got such low ratings. it's gotten so tacky over the past few years. i heard vanessa william's musical number was pretty stupid.
I enjoyed Betty White and the Guiding Light tribute, plus the Sesame Street tribute brought a smile to my face. The theater they used was gorgeous, the Orpheum (my archi-nerd coming out).
Otherwise, the rest of the telecast was embarassingly tacky. The "fashion photo shoot", the unnecessary review of the nominated soaps throughtout the night, the cut off of the final award speech (this was B&B's first time winning! C'mon!), Vanessa's second musical number. In addition, the lousy directing, with misplaced camera zoom ins and the phase out of the nominee's clips midway through the broadcast to save time. To top it all off, Susan Lucci's proclamation that the show was the most glamorous on TV. ehh hm.
Maybe if they included a musical act or two, some fan-generated or fan-based content (particularly an award voted on by the viewers "Best Newcomer" for example), an "In Memoriam" segment remembering daytime stars who've passed? There's always next year...maybe.
Vanessa's opening number was clever, in a one-joke way, but that song she did later was utter vanity and ego. The song had nothing to do with the show, and then she danced with the dick-flashing French guy from the Sex and the City movie (he also has nothing to do with daytime, just the lame Dancing with the Stars). And her song just went on foreeeeeever. It was like the whole show stopped for her to do 15 minutes from her lounge act.
Is he gay? He reminds me of some of the (male) Young Conservatives with whom I went to university who used to decry homosexuals at every opportunity, and then two years later were having fully fledged affairs with (male) MPs.
Also, I was a bit surprised that he was decrying the lack of knowledge about how other people in the world do things, because from what my friends in Republican states have told me (so, yes - I'm only going on anecdotal evidence) the first thing that goes in education is comparative ideas about the world when education budgets have to be cut (assuming the arts and music classes have already gone).
Misleading headline much? Well cruising in one way, maybe not so much in another that comes to mind. On a more important note, after watching Scott Evans in this clip as Scott Evans rather than Oliver Fish, I take back what I have said about his portrayal of Fish... He is TOTALLY different than the police officer I've been watching (I'd say he nearly queened out once or twice) and has done a great job convincing me Fish is a stereotypical alpha-male cop (minus the closet case part) whose very careful about subtle mannerisms. Scott Evans you are waaaaay cuter in person!
I'd say Scott Evans completely queened out in more than one place in that clip. And that's a huge reason why I think he's a talented guy and doing a bang up job on ONE LIFE TO LIVE: Evans is inhabiting a persona completely different from who he is (or at least seems to be) in real life.
PLUS, I appreciate the fact that Evans is not too cool for school about being himself and allowing himself let his hair down instead of butching it up with the soap press. Evans keeps it real, and I admire him very much for that. More power to him!

Ja ja! I said it already a while ago! Scott Evans' acting abilities are up there together with Brett Claywell's and Tika Sumpter's (would love to throw David Fumero into the mix, but I have yet to see more of him and more of his smile)!

Ha! I had never heard of that expression, but fits excellently! He queened out indeed! I like Scott Evans in that clip! I like Scott Evans as Fish! Just awesome! And he is cute as a puppy!
if Mr. Scott Evans ever reads these blogs - please Mr. Evans - don't ever change. don't ever butch up for the press or the fans. LET YOUR FREAK FLAG FLY!!!!! we love you exactly the way you are!!!!!!!!!!
I love how Tucker says, "we've checked with the FBI and there are no reported incidents of violence based on sexual orientation in those grades" as if all elementary school fights get reported to the FBI. I'm pretty sure if a kid gets his nose bloodied because the other kids think he's gay or because his parents are gay, at best that's making it to the school principle, not the FBI. As a matter of fact once, when I was in 5th grade, I pushed a kid off the monkey bar ladder because he was mean to my friend and he ended up needing 5 stitches in his head. I sincerely doubt there's and FBI file on me about that!

your picture is so on the FBI most wanted poster. I thought I saw that incident on prolie on the TV show "Most Wanted!" SERCURITY!!! someone call SECURITY!
I am not surprised the Daytime emmy's did so poorly last night. The soap opera actors are supposed to be the big draw, but most people don't know who they are. How can the emmy officials expect big ratings when the shows it promote don't get big ratings. The primetime emmy's have better ratings due to higher rated shows with more familiar actors. Maybe the daytime emmy awards would get better ratings if they were aired in the daytime when nothing else is on - then I would watch.
Aren't all the awards shows struggling to keep up ratings these days? I think they're just increasingly irrelevant. We no longer need television to tell us what to like, think or feel. We have the internet for that, now. But you're right that the Daytime Emmys are particularly vulnerable.
I feel the same way about the Tonys. I saw Wicked this weekend, and afterwards we were talking about how irrelevant the Tonys are to most people's experience. Ignoring how much many people do or don't care about musicals, they'll never get to see the New York productions getting awarded. When and if the show comes to their city, it's not going to have a single one of the cast and crew that are winning these awards. It's very navel-gazing. If they added a few categories for "touring show", it would be less exciting for the Broadway community, but more exciting for television viewers, who might actually get to use the award as a recommendation for their own theatergoing.
They might get some eyes temporarily with NPH and Poison (although I suspect they wanted better than to get ratings back to 2006 levels), but that won't make people actually care who wins the Tonys.
Uh...back on track now. Van Hansis needs a haircut, unless he's angling to star in a reimagined version of That 70s Show.
Tucker Carlson is a closeted douchebag. He has the nerve to say that there's no proof of kids being beat up due to their sexual orientation when he himself is an example of someone who beats up people due to their sexual orientation.
I do believe we should certainly defend ourselves against unwanted assault, but being hit on is not an "assault", and the fact that he defends his actions to this day is just unforgivable. He didn't "defend himself", he ganged up on this guy with his friends after a suitable amount of time had passed for him to go to the higher authority or even, if the situation were dire enough, to call the police.
I think whoever this guy was, the poor victim, ought to speak out and be given a feature here on AE. Just saying.

HI-larious! And Vanessa was actually fantastic!

Vanessa is always fantastic
in pretty much everything she does.
The Daytime Emmy telecast was horrendous though!! So tacky, bad quality and embarrassing for those being honored...

I lost respect for Vanessa by the end of the night

Tucker Carlson is ONE SICK PUPPY
Oh, I doubt that.
The Sondheim thing, I mean. That would imply he has better taste than he's ever exhibited on tv.
As for "Sick Puppy", you got that right.
Wow
