  • Happy birthday to President Obama. He might want to skip the upcoming issue of The Advocate.
  • Philly.com has an article about the Liberty Stampede, the upcoming suburban Philadelphia gay rodeo.
  • The 2009 MTV Video Music Award nominations have been announced, with Beyonce and Lady GaGa tied for the most nods, at nine apiece. Since I only listen to 80's music, most of this decade's attempts have passed me by, so I'm perplexed why I sometimes catch myself softly singing "can't read my ... can't read my ... no, he can't read my poker face". Maybe it's a message from outer space or something.

If Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. bring the hoyay in Sherlock Holmes, will the heads of straight guys explode?

  • If the much-rumored gay element in Guy Ritchie's upcoming "reimagining" of Sherlock Holmes is true, ridiculous sourpuss Michael Medved will have a conniption: "There's not a seething, bubbling hunger to see straight stars impersonating homosexuals." A seething, bubbling hunger? Who the hell talks like that?
  • Above you can see the first vlog from Joan Rivers about her new show How'd You get So Rich?, which premieres on TV Land Tomorrow night at 10PM EST. In this episode she offers advice to closeted gay actors ... rent a family!

    Have they been reading my junior high school diary? (Also: in the books, Holmes is coke-head. Isn't Downey um, overqualified?)

    In  re your question about the Medved quote  ("Who talks like that?") the answer is as obvious as Mikey's '70's style porn stache: a person with more issues than a newsstand.

    He was on some of the talk shows in the 90s talking up reparative therapy, I believe.

    His books with his brother were often slanted, but one of them went as far as to make up a gay porn film which supposedly had Jesus as gay and had a priest masturbating, or some such. I can't remember. Anyway, no one has ever heard of this film. Even Snopes says the film does not exist.

    Robert Downey Jr. keeps talking about his man crush on Jude Law, and it makes me really excited to see some "chemistry" onscreen

    as for Obama, I'm still reserving judgement until his term is up. At least your leader acknowledges the gay community. Harper hasn't done jack shit for LGBT rights in Canada.

    he's right. That describes it exactly!  I totally have a seething, bubbling hunger to see lots and lots of hoyay in the new Sherlock Holmes. From the trailer it looks to deliver.

    is it just me or is jude law surprisingly hot with a moustache? ive always thought he was hot but he looks even hotter with a moustache oddly enough. and i dont usually like that. anybody agree?

    If I had a sub I'd cancel it. No publication should be making a  stand on what the President has accomplished after  6 months in office. It's a pity that the mag has fallen from such heights to become just another rag that has to court controversy to get people to read it's drivel.

    I think the Advocate has its point. Obama cites gays in a lot of speakings but he change any law, and right now the situation of gay rights it's exactly the same that was before him

    In Spain Zapatero promise to aprove gay marriage, and it was one of the first laws he aproved.

    Maybe things will change, and of course with a republican candidate it will be worse, but in terms of gay rights he is a big dissapointment right now

    Because I couldn't recognize anything about the characters I loved so much in my early teens. But if this is true? I am SO seeing the movie. Medved is obviously completely out of touch with reality (and women)! :)

    I wonder if Medved has ever read the SH books, the "hoyay" or "subtext" or anyway you want to call it has always been there. Quite strongly, IMHO.

     

    I' was not very excited about the movie, because it looks so little like the SH movies/TV series I love, it looks many kinds of wrong. But I must admit that it also looks entertaining, and with the news of "hoyay" (it's a terrible word, guys!) and how hot and charming looks Jude Law...

     

    I can't wait!!!! :)
