Bravo's Andy Cohen has been causing chuckles with his assessment of the critically-reviled Miami Social: "I actually think Miami Social is the perfect summer show. It's stupid and sexy fun." Well, he's half right.
Out Hollywood public relations powerhouse Howard Bragman talks about why so many agents advise their gay clients to stay in the closet. Surprise! It's about money.
Is the spirit of Jay Leno haunting The Tonight Show? How else do you explain the above clip, which features an eye-rolling Leno-esque attempt at "gay humor". I think it's time for an exorcism, Conan.
GLAAD and Electronic Arts will be hosting a panel discussion on Saturday about homophobic bullying in the online gaming world, and creating more gay-friendly games.
Marriage-equality was discussed on day four of the Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, who said she'd approach the subject "with an open mind".
Thanks, I was just asking because I watched Leno every night for his last 2 years or so and thought he was a generally great guy who even explained how he was for gay marriage a few times. Maybe he even improved since that letter was written in early 2006 (by the way that was a fantastic letter when he was explaining the struggles of gay people). If you didn't see the entire episode of Conan they went on to keep showing the bear and the 2 gay guys again a few times after this. I think this is a little offensive because it's showing that that is how they view gay people, while there are probably more straight people like that than gay people. 2 guys kissing isn't supposed to be a joke.
There's something wrong with the sound on my computer, so I can't watch the clip (could someone let me know what the gist of it is?), but I don't know why anyone would be surprised about this. Conan made plenty of gay jokes on his old show.
Agreed. Someone tell me what is offensive about it. I don't see an editorial comment against gays in showing two leather studs with ballgags attempting to kiss. I just see broad comedy. One could even applaud Conan for his inclusiveness; he's letting us laugh at ourselves just like everyone else.
He is talking about a "kiss Cam" like he saw watching a Dodger's game, where during the televising of the baseball game the camera will zoom in a couple in the stadium, show them on the big screen and get them to kiss, (showing them framed in a large drawing of lips superimposed on the screen). It's good fun and the crowd loves it, Conan says, and he wants to try a "Tonight Show Kiss Cam" with members of his audience. The camera frames individuals, who then kiss, first a couple of average couples who look surprised to be chosen, but comply and embrace and kiss for the camera. When the camera focus on a grey haired senior citizen couple, they look shocked, then the woman starts to kiss the old man, but quickly turns to someone sitting off camera, and it pans so that we see she is kissing a teenaged boy, not the grandpa she is sitting next to. Next the Kiss Cam focuses on two men in leather dog collars and bright red ball-gags, who attempt to kiss with the gags in their mouth, Lastly the Kiss Cam sets on a hunter in red flannel shirt and a bear, rather someone in a bear suit. As Conan looks on in disgust, the camera pans back to the hunter and the bear going at it and Conan says, "It's over... now".
I guess my question is, did the S&M couple have to be gay? could the bit have worked if they were a straight couple, because the comedy plays on the stereotype of gays as sexually excessive and perverse. Attempting to place us some where on the spectrum between 80 year olds who date teenagers and bestiality, but obviously closer to the later.
Being out is not"being an activist." It is being honest. Unfortunately it's such a rare commodity in this world that honesty often seems like activism.
Conan
That lcip was not even remotely funny. >:( Gosh, why do comdians still did this stuff?

Conan
Agreed
The clip wasn't funny at all
Why didn't he just show two guys kissing? Why the leather and the whatever the hell those ball things were. Homophobic.
By the way. I think the whole idea of kiss cams is just plain creepy and weird.
Two guys kissing isn't
explain..
