AfterElton Briefs: Gene Robinson chats with Rachel Maddow, "Out in the City", and more!

Tony winner Paulo Szot will soon be singing a different tune (pic: GETTY)

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Tonight in NYC is the premiere of The Lincoln Center's annual American Songbook series. Each Wednesday performance will feature different performers interpreting the songs of a particular songwriter. Tonight's show features the music of Cole Porter with out David Hyde Pierce, and future performers include the out Tony winner Paulo Szot (who I think will be performing the songbook of Weird Al Yankovic ... but don't quote me on that).
  • Speaking of NYC, tune in this Friday (Jan. 16th) to Logo (our parent company) for the premiere of Out in the City, a new thirty-minute documentary promoting "New York City's dynamic and diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) culture."
  • Rachel Maddow will have an interview on MSNBC tonight with gay Bishop Gene Robinson. The subject of Robinson's Sunday invocation will no doubt be brought up.

  • Above you can see a clip from the new TruTV channel series The Principal's Office, which is allegedly a documentary about what really goes on in various ... well, principal's offices. I say "allegedly" because the schtick of these two seniors (while hilarious) seems a bit too rehearsed. What do you think?
  • In disappointing but not entirely unexpected news, CBS has given the axe to the 70's themed Swingtown.

    Of course...

I'm so sad! I loved Swingtown. I wish it would have started off on a different network, because I think it could have lived on.

    I liked it, too!  I don't

I liked it, too!  I don't think it had enough time or visibility to find an audience, but it was definitely worth watching, and I would have watched a second season.

    I don't know if it's rehearsed but it's HOT!

I want to see more of these two. Preferably naked.

    I agree with David...

I don't particularly care if that Principal's Office clip was rehearsed or not but it was hilarious. More please!

Oh, totally scripted---but very, very funny.  That clip cracked me up!

I'm like a superhero, with no powers or motivation...

    Unrehearsed

Completely ad lib. But these boys obviously have done this schtick before.

I think it reflects what we already know (as in the past election) that young people are more comfortable with gay issues, to the point where the two cutest jocks in school are unafraid to play gay to try and shock the adults. First they mock anal sex in front of the principle (can you hear them in the Lunch room later that day? "And then Brandon is like 'what if I'm like tying my shoe and he bumps into me", and I'm like standing behind him with my arms in the air like this..."..."Oh my god, what did Geezer say!!!") One even tries to kiss Geezer's hand and they end up holding hands for the camera when they leave.

They must be a riot at the mall when that preacher dude starts passing out his tracts.

    HILARIOUS

Scripted or not, that was hilarious, I could not stop laughing (I'm still laughing actually.) Kudos to those boys for being comfortable enough with themsleves and each others to go along with it. I half expected them to make out. I wish the guys at my high school had been like that.

Oh, and I remember the censorship on school dances ("No exposed skin!" "No hugging!" ...I'm serious, we weren't allowed to hug each other.) ....but that was middle school.

I may be straight, but I'm not narrow.
