Enjoy this tasty treat designed help to stall the inevitable soul crushingness that is known as the start of the work week. Savor it because as soon as you're done, it begins...
Michelle Malkin should not be encouraged to appear on camera sans makeup
Great news for fans of Beautiful People! The second season (or "series", as those wacky Brits put it) has begun, and you can see the first episode. Um, but only if you live in the U.K..
A school in Albany, N.Y. has taken the lesson of hatred and fear from that evil clan and turned it into a lesson on love and acceptance. (t/y to Miz Liz)
Just get on the floor and do the New Kids dance!
Out.com has a hysterical and poignant pictorial article called Cheyenne Jackson Through the Years. It features pics of the hunk-a-dunk from a tot to today, including the above pic, during his ... Crybaby years?
Frank Bruni has an article in The New York Times about Ellen's appearance on Oprah and how important her visibility has been through the years.
Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri won't appeal the recent court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage. (t/y to Ciprico)
Above you can see the first trailer for 8: The Mormon Proposition, which takes a look at the Mormon Church's involvement in the passage of Prop 8. The documentary, which is narrated by Dustin Lance Black, will be playing film festivals around the country.
We're not the only ones who went gaga over Ugly Betty's Friday episode. Michael Ausiello loved it, too, and provided a few spoilers about what's to come.
Out director Roland Emmerich has once again proven his expertise at ending the world onscreen, as 2012 opened to huge box office numbers. One of my biggest guilty pleasures is disaster movies (anyone remember When Time Ran Out, with Paul Newman and Jacqueline Bissett threatened by a matte painting of a volcano?) , so I'm sure I'll check this out eventually.
And here is your sports pics of the week!
And now the work week begins! We're so so sorry...
I watched the first episode of series 2 of Beautiful People over the weekend... not my favorite episode, and quite a few people needed hair cuts. As long as the writers don't devote their attention solely to the quirky things that worked so well in series 1 and make the show all about that, I think they can get back on the right track - it definitely felt like the same show, though, especially the modern day sequences. And I liked the way the show brought back somebody back.
but it seems like we missed a lot of important stuff. There was that scene near the beginning where Simon and Kylie were ogling soccer players in magazines and the voiceover said "Because whereas most 14 year-old boys in 1998 were fancying girls and playing football, me and my best mate Kylie were fancying footballers and playing girls." I don't think that we saw that Simon and Kylie were attracted to boys and them acknowledging that to each other, so it seemed kind of weird to me that they would just skip past that stuff.
Anyway, other than that I liked the episode. I really liked Kylie's mom this episode, and I haven't been a hauge fan. Simon definitely needs a haircut, though. His hair looks terrible.
Simon and Kylie were shown flicking through football mags while dressed like women at a hen party/girls at a pop concert... Seems pretty clear to me.
I also was not a huge fan of the first series, but I really liked this episode. Enyata was hilarious. And hopefully Samuel Barnett will be given a bit more to do in this series.
I know what it meant, but I didn't even really know that they knew that they were gay, or that they knew they both were. Maybe I should have just assumed that.
As always, the Monday Morning "Everything Bagel" was packed with scrumtuously informative goodness.
I can't begin to praise the school in Albany, New York, enough for their reaction to Fred Phelps and his horrid ilk. It's wonderful to see people turning hate into a lesson of tolerance. The delicious irony isn't lost on me either. I wish two things:
1. that Phelps feels really annoyed to learn that he inadvertently motivated people to be more tolerant;
2. that I could be there to watch them perform the Laramie Project. I'm certain it'll be amazing.
Then there's Ellen DeGeneres and her lovely wife Portia de Rossi. These wonderful women bravely stand in the spotlight, unafraid to live their lives and show their love. It's people like these that keep my faith in humanity alive and remind me that, by showing the world our love, we will get equal rights in the end.
As for the Mormons... Ugh... I don't really wanna waste my time by typing about them. All I'll say is that they can take their magical knickers and take a long walk off a short pier.
Finally, on a lighter note, am I the only one who found this week's sports pic exceptionally erotic? There's been some disagreement about this, but I've been told that rugby is the most homoerotic sport around. This pic just proves it a little more.
Not that I'm complaining! :) As long as those dashingly handsome men keeping touching each other (while playing their sport! Dirty minded people... ^_^) I'll continue watching.
I would like to point out this blogger has failed to address the Entertainment Weekly reporter by the classification given to him last week in the Treaty of Ausiello. He is a Spurf, and it is required that you address him as such!
The first one played on our shores last year, and it was an absolute gem. Definitely set your DVR's, kids.
Cheyenne Jackson is nice looking, but doesn't usually do a lot for me. (Note: I think he's phenomenally talented and a total sweetheart.) However, something about that picture in the OUT spread on the horse...."GIDDYUP!!!!"
Mental note: must investigate local rugby club in Portland.
"2012"'s success means nothing to me; people used to attend Roman arenas, bear baitings and cockfights. Two friends whom I adore and who's taste I usually respect saw it this weekend. There are always going to be such disappointing developments. (Saw a kid playing video games slack-jawed in Fred Meyer yesterday, and got so nauseated by his vacant expression that it was all I could do to keep from ripping the controls out of his hands and growling, "Go read something.") Hey, I'll be gone mid-way through this century; if humankind keeps sprialling downwards, I won't be here to see it.
I'm with you on Disaster movies. They are my guilty pleasure movies. The first one I ever saw was On The Beach. When I found out it was based on a book, I had to read it... It was the first book (other than a comic book) that I read more than once. The movie also was the first one I believe I ever saw that did not turn away from the inevitable and give it a sappy ending. I remember finishing up the book The Poseidan Adventure standing in line for the movie ( I kept waiting for the scene where the damn kid would die... ).
I did go see 2012 and found it much better than I thought. While the escape from California was a piece of pure fantasy, it made you catch your breath wondering what next. It also has one of the best movie speeches regarding humanity ever. My only problem with the movie was that the ending dragged a bit too much. I can see where he plans on continuing the story as it does have that open ending feeling to it.
If you like true escapism without feeling guilty about the fantasy aspects of the end of California then you'll enjoy the movie. Sit back and munch on the popcorn and slurp your drink, it's a good ride!
As someone who is basically ethnically Mormon, and as a gay man just seeing the trailer for this documentary made me tear up. It was because of the teachings of the LDS church that I fought my sexuality for ten years had suicidal thoughts and still have feelings that I am not loved by God. There are good Mormons and on occasion there have even been good and decent leaders in the LDS church. There is no hope however that a religion founded by a hyper-hetero man (Joseph Smith) who would have made the Kennedys look monogamous can or ever will be tolerant let alone accepting of same-sex love and desire.
They need to be allowed to practice their religion but when it comes to the rights of gays and lesbians they should have no say whatsoever. No one should.

This. They have hurt me and they make me angry - angrier than almost anything - and yet I still feel like I don't want to hurt them.
I just want them to leave me - us - alone. I'm looking forward to this film with strong emotions.
Alejandro
Freyre and Jose Maria Di Bello have set the date for their marriage on December
1st of this year. This will be the first gay MARRIAGE ever in
Argentina (and I think it will be the first in Latin America too). I know this are
news from the other side of the word for most of you, but this is HUGE, I’ve
never thought that could happen so soon in my lifetime (I always thought this would
happen after all the mayor countries would have done it). It’s only valid in
Buenos Aires (because it was a local judging) but at this moment there are
other cases in the national supreme court waiting for resolution, as well as a
debate in the congress that has been delayed for too long and maybe this will
make it go faster.
