AfterElton Briefs: Brian Burke Carries On His Son's Legacy, Matthew Mitcham Tweets, "Evita" Returns, and More!
Out designer Zac Posen at his Z SPOKE launch party last night in NYC.
Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear. Yes, we're serious.
- In case you didn't know, our favorite sunshine-hearted golden Olympics star Matthew Mitcham is on Twitter, and he wants to remind you that he's trying to become Australia's Greatest Athlete.

- SportsIllustrated.com has an article (and I admit I couldn't get through it without tearing up) about Brian Burke and what he's doing to keep his son Brendan's legacy alive.
"Brendan's causes are Brian's now. He will do a public-service announcement aimed at eliminating the bullying of gay children. And he plans to march in the Toronto Pride Parade. 'I'd promised him I would march with him,' says Burke, who briefly left the Olympics last Friday to attend a memorial service for Brendan at Miami of Ohio. 'He won't be there, but I will.'"
- BBC News speaks to Olympic gold medalist Mark Tewksbury about Vancouver's "Pridehouse" and the lack of openly gay visibility at this year's Olympic games.
- Below you can see a clip from The Rachel Maddow Show that shows Virginia Representative Jim Moran reading from an e-mail he received from a gay active duty military officer. You can read the e-mail here, which once again caused me to tear up. I'm going to have to stop reading stuff.
- Paging Cheyenne Jackson! Broadway is reviving Evita, and they're looking for a household name to play Che Guevara. Okay, Cheyenne might not be a household name in most houses, but he is in the Case de AfterElton.
- The Golden State Warriors will be holding their first official gay and lesbian night at the Oracle Arena on March 11. There will be special events throughout the day, the National Anthem will be performed by the Oakland Gay Men’s Chorus, and there will be a halftime performance by Cheer SF, a local gay cheerleading squad.
- Jimmy Nguyen, the lawyer who defended Miss California USA against Carrie Prejean, has wriiten an article for Advocate.com about how an anti-gay platform is the new trendy way to get your name known on the pageant circuit.
Like a deer in rainbow-colored headlights
- Above you can see former Congressman Harold Ford, Jr., who spoke about his sudden shift from denouncing marriage-equality to fully supporting it to a ... skeptical crowd ... at the GLBT Community Center in NYC. On a personal note, Mr. Ford recently made a trip to Rochester, N.Y. (which I can see from my house), and made one of the biggest faux pas you can make around here. While trying to appear that he loved our local food, he made mention of the fact that he absolutely loved our GARAGE PLATES, and how every time he came to this area he would enjoy a GARAGE PLATE. Yeah ... THEY'RE CALLED GARBAGE PLATES. Not "garage" plates ... "garbage" plates. We still haven't gotten over it, Mr. Ford. Oh yeah, garbage plates are delicious.
And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
