Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear. Yes, we're serious. each Friday Briefs will also feature a pic up top that desperately needs captioning. We'll pick our fave suggestion from the comments and run it in the following week's post. Have fun! Drop your caption ideas in the comments, and check out last week's winner at the bottom of the page!

  • The Daytime Emmy pre-nomination nominations have been announced, and it's great news for one gay super-couple, but not so much for the other gay super-couple. For those who don't know what pre-nomination nominations are, it's very simple. Every year, each soap opera submits names in each acting category they believe are worthy of Emmy nominations. Only those actors whose names are submitted have a shot at an Emmy nomination. This year TPTB at One Life To Live have submitted Brett Claywell for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Scott Evans for Outstanding Younger Actor. On the flip side, TPTB at As The World Turns decided not to submit Jake Silbermann or Van Hansis. It's shocking they wouldn't drive Van into a slot, since he's received Emmy nods for a few years in a row. Hmmm ...
  • In his never-ending quest to prove he can do anything, Neil Patrick Harris will direct three performances of Rent this summer at the Hollywood Bowl.
  • Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has always been mature beyond his years, and he's once again proven that by filming a PSA for the Trevor Project about gay teen suicide prevention.
  • Out Brothers & Sisters producer Greg Berlanti is the leading contender to direct the big-screen version of The Flash.

  • Jeffrey Goldberg has penned a short response for TheAtlantiic.com about DADT that is direct, to-the-point, a bit profane, and made me laugh.
  • The Sydney Gay Mardi Gras is this weekend, which means it's time for another "Up, Up, And a Gay" journey from Melbourne to the festivities, featuring the most fabulous flight crew to fly the friendly skies.

  • If you've popped the question to your partner, and want a few ... hundred witnesses, mark March 20 on the calender because the largest gay wedding in history is scheduled for that Saturday in Washington, DC. Up to 400 couples will exchange vows, hopefully breaking the current Guinness World Record.
  • Finally, let's close out the week with some heartwarming news. Construction has begun on the "True Colors Residence", New York City's first "permanent housing facility with support services for 18-24 year old lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth with a history of homelessness." This is awesome, and bless Cyndi Lauper, but is it selfish of me to also want a "She Bop" house and "Goonies R Good Enough" hotel?

Thanks to everyone for participating! We picked this one because it had us at "wood-munching beaver".

Colbert explains euphemisms to a wood-munching beaver on a totem pole: "See, American family values are compatible with dirty jokes... that's why our flag is red, white AND blue."

Thanks to deegeezee for this week's winning caption.
