AfterElton Briefs: Broadway Beauty Pageant, Gaga ... Lady Gaga, a Big "Yank!", and More!
Plus Clay and Ruben ... together again, child stars have problems, Ugly Betty helps out, and was Modern Family's I-Pad use product placement?
- Tickets are on sale for this year's Broadway Beauty Pageant, which takes place April 19 and benefits The Ali Forney Center, NYC's primary emergency housing resource for homeless GLBT youth. This year's contestants are Wes Hart (Mr. West Side Story), Eddie Pendergraft (Mr. Wicked), Daniel Soto (Mr. Fela), Rickey Tripp (Mr. In The Heights) and Charlie Williams (Mr. Memphis).
Is there a swimsuit competition?
- Speaking of Broadway, the musical Yank! is headed to the Great White Way for next season. It "chronicles the relationship between two servicemen long before 'Don't Ask/Don't Tell' was part of the national discussion." Sounds promising, but I won't lie ... the title makes me giggle.
- Ugly Betty's America Ferrera and Save The Children have teamed up to help build a school in Mali. You can bid on artwork from the Ugly Betty episode "The Passion of the Betty" to be auctioned off April 12 in NYC, which will also feature cast members discussing the show.
- Apropos of nothing, but Valerie Bertinelli is filling in for Joy Behar on Joy's HLN show (which I think is called The Joy Behar Show), and below you can see a discussion Val had last night with former child stars David Faustino, Erin Moran, Christopher Knight and Valerie's former One Day at a Time co-star Mackenzie Phillips about the dangers of fame.
- Modern Family co-creator Christopher Lloyd explains the use of the iPad on last night's show: It was not product placement.
- Americal Idol Season Two buddies Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard will be teaming up for a North American tour this summer. Kathy Griffin just jumped for joy.
- So who will sing the theme song for the next Bond film? According to this article, the leading contenders are Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse and Michael Buble Butt. All have their merits, but none could top the three greatest Bond themes, "For Your Eyes Only" from For Your Eyes Only, "All Time High" (the most underrated theme) from Octopussy and "Diamonds are Forevah Evah Evah" from Diamonds are Forever (with honorable mentions going to "A View To A Kill" and "Nobody Does It Better".) Discuss!
And today's Briefs are brought to you by...
