AfterElton Briefs: Snooki Just Honored to be Nominated, The Out Power 50, and More!

  • Voting is now underway for the 2010 NewNowNext Awards, and your voice is needed to decide such categories as "Brink of Fame" (which includes Mark Indelicato, Alexander Skarsgard and Lea Michele) and the "OMFG Internet Award" (which includes Chatroulette and Lesbians who look like Justin Beiber.) A first-time nominee this year for "Most Addictive Reality Star" is Jersey Shore's Snooki, and as you can see below, she's thrilled to be nominated.

  • SyFy's Mega Piranha (which I Faceplaced the hell out of) was the channel's highest rated "original" movie of the year, and drew a larger audience last Saturday than both Caprica and Stargate: Voyager Universe. Meanwhile, I got bored with Mega Pirahna (not even Tiffany and the lead actor hunk, who I recognized from late night Skinemax, could save it), and I turned to NBC's Law & Order: SVU, which featured guest stars Jaclyn Smith, Susan Anton, Ann-Margret and Morgan Fairchild. HEAVEN! The best moment? When Jaclyn Smith called Detective Benson a "dumb bitch".

  • Out has released their Annual Power 50, and the top ten is pretty much who'd you expect. But did they really need to make that sneering guy so prominent in this artwork?

  • Stephen Colbert interviewed New York Times writer Jon Mooallem about his article on same-sex activities in animals, including male dolphins, who "penetrate each other in the blowhole."

  • I've never really understood the appeal of rock climbing (especially after that story of the guy who got stuck and had to chop his own arm off), but apparently there's a lot of gay interest. HomoClimbtastic is organizing a gay climbing thingy for this July at New River Gorge in West Virginia. I don't like the name "HomoClimbtastic". How about "MountaiQueers?"
