AfterElton Briefs: Tiffany Vs. Debbie Gibson, Gavin Creel's "Quiet" Makes Noise, Vote For Ethan, and More!

Plus when Mr. Gay met Mr. Gay, True Blood teasers, and The Situation doesn't mind if we ogle The Situation.

  • Okay, I'm going to try and keep calm. Calmer than I was last night when I e-mailed my colleagues at AE about this with the subject line "OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG!" As someone who's a tad obsessed with the 80's, I was thrilled when SyFy announced their dueling Tiffany/Debbie Gibson mega-creature movies, even if I thought the finished products were disappointing. Now comes word that ... just breathe ... both pop princesses are teaming up for the new SyFy sure-to-be classic ... wait for it ... Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid

Editor's note: Snicks is not kidding. That was the subject line of his email. When I got it I thought, "Oh, $*@!, who died now?"
  • The film will feature Tiff as "an overzealous park ranger who uses dangerous methods to save endangered alligators," and Deb as "a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores." And the producers promise a brawl to end all brawls. "The catfight on Dynasty was a seminal TV moment and it's time to re-create that for a new generation."

  • This got me thinking of possible sequels, and what other 80's pop tarts should star. For instance, Giant Ficus Vs. Colossal Cicada starring Martika and The Third Girl From Exposé, or Big Ass Bumblebee Vs. Super-Sized Slug with Taylor Dayne and Samantha Fox. Or the ultimate SyFy opus - Frankensquirrel starring Stacey Q and Taco.

  • The Spurf wrangled a spoiler tease from Alan Ball about True Blood that if true could forever change one of the relationships on the show.

  • Jersey Shore's The Situation has responded via Facebook to the brouhaha over the pic of him and his cast-mates adorning the cover of the Village Voice "Queer Issue." Am I the only one who suspects that he may actually be in on the joke that is Jersey Shore? At least, I hope he is.

"As for the Village Voice SitUAtioN - it's not for me to judge somebody's sexual preference and in my opinion the SitUaTIoN looks good as hell and that is my main concern. It just so happens that The SitUaTiON has mass appeal and happily reaches a very broad audience - This is not my first cover and definitely not my last."
  • Oprah Winfrey is giving someone the opportunity to host their own show on her upcoming cable channel, and she (or more likely, her enormous staff) is accepting audition videos. Enter Ethan Mechare, an out actor and TV host from Los Angeles. Ethan hosts the online talk show Doin' It With Ethan, in which he presents human interest stories and celebrity interviews (my favorite is with the fabulous character actress Rusty Schwimmer). Ethan is cute, funny, and has loads of personality, and deserves his shot at TV fame. Please take a look at his audition tape and cast your vote for one of our OWN. (Get it? Cause OWN is the Oprah Winfrey Network, so it's a play on words.) Oh never mind, just vote for him!
