AfterElton Briefs: Happy Birthday Rufus, Losing Xtina, Zombies Want Brad Pitt's Brains, and More!

Plus celebrating PS22, World Cup kissing, CBS de-gays, and why is Dustin Lance Black writing a screenplay about that guy?

  • Happy 37th birthday to out singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright.
  • Below you can see "Zebulon" from his latest album All Days Are Nights: Songs For Lulu.
  • I have to admit that my Spanish is a bit sketchy (I took two years in high school, and the only phrase I've retained is "su salchicha es masiva,") but from what I gather from this clip, Spanish TV reporter Raúl Gómez had a wish to kiss one of the players from Spain's World Cup winning team, and Cesc Fábregas obliged. It's very cute, and I love the Hanna-Barbera effects.

  • Below you can see Rep. Aaron Schock (who is in no way, shape, or form a gay icon, so people need to quit calling him that) inexplicably appears on next week's Top Chef to present some kind of toothpick challenge. Oh wait, I think this season it's set in Washington, D.C., so I guess it does make sense. But I can't wait to see Sally Kern's appearance. Do you think she'll present a rainbow cupcake challenge? Probably not.

  • Angelina Jolie is the latest "Ask The Celebrity Expert," and a reader wants to know what spy techniques she would recommend to catch a cheating boyfriend. Angie takes it all in stride, but isn't asking her about cheating a little cringe-inducing?
  • Speaking of Angie, her lesser half Brad Pitt has just signed to star in the zombie film World War Z. I have mixed feelings about this. Zombie survival is my favorite film genre, and I've seen them all, from the master (Romero) to all of the copycats and even the parodies. World War Z is based on the book by Max Brooks, who also wrote the essential Zombie Survival Guide, which I keep next to my bed (just in case). My problem is that I've never been a huge fan of Brad Pitt's body ... of work. But he is an A-List star, and Marc Forster is an A-List director, so maybe this could be the big-budget zombie epic we've been waiting for.
  • And now something heartwarming and special. Staten Island's PS22 is the most well-known elementary school chorus in the world, which makes me feel bad, since I hadn't heard of it til now. Recently they honored Stevie Nicks by performing "Landslide" for her at Madison Square Garden, and met her afterwards. She posed for pics with the kids (and their really hot music teacher) and the kids' best memory of the day was "how good she smelled." That smell is Angel Dust, kids. I mean Fairy Dust! (A big thanks to Cathy in Canada for the link, and for leaving me blubbering on the floor, which any version of "Landslide" always causes me to do.)

  • Well that was quick. Even though he's still in shackles, a film about the "Barefoot Bandit" is getting underway, with Dustin Lance Black writing the screenplay. "It's clear that there's a reason the country has become so enamored with this story, and that is worthy of investigation," Black said. "Like any great outlaw story, it speaks to the social and political mood of a generation." Remind me again why people are so enamored of this little thieving punk, because I don't get it.
