Amazing moment...
It will be an amazing moment when President Obama signs the Matthew Shepard/James Byrd Act. This will be the first time in the history of the nation that the GLBT community has ever had a piece of legislation pass both houses and signed by the President.

I'll be genuinely surprised if he does sign it
It's certain he will sign it...
President Obama has already stated that when it reaches his desk he will sign it.

He's signing it, no question.
The far left is not...
...saying "Obama hates gay". They are saying "Obama is using the gays" or "Obama is afraid of the religious right"....or just a Joe Wilson "You LIE! ".

Yeah, but that's the
Yeah, but that's the problem. It seems pretty obvious to me that all those things you cite that "they're saying" are incorrect. From what I'm observing it's a simple matter of a deliberative politician calculating where, when and how to spend his political capital. Which does not translate into being afraid of anyone or using anyone. Rather, the thinking is more like this, if I can channel the guy for a moment: "OK, I desperately want to get this health care bill passed, and to do that I have to walk a tightrope of appeasing all sorts of people and opinions. I need to be seen as a reasonable, middle of the road kind of guy so middle of the road politicians can follow me on this. The last thing I need is a bunch of controversy about issues that can be twisted to make me look more like the rabid left wing socialist that the right is trying to paint me as being. If that perception takes hold the middle of the road Democrats will get scared and desert me on health care. I'll have to hold off on these other things until this health care thing gets taken care of."
Based on how the right wing has indeed been trying to portray him, on a big picture basis he's probably totally right to do what he's doing. Speaking for myself, I think health care reform is so vital, and affects so many people's lives, including determining in thousands of cases who will live and who will die (see the recent scientific study about that), that I'm willing to be more patient than I normally would be.
I think it's a big mistake for us to go to the extremes of saying that Obama doesn't really care about gay people's rights, or is "using" us, or is afraid of the religious right. Keep the pressure up, yes. Don't let anyone forget our concerns and needs. If, during the year following enactment of health care reform, significant changes aren't made, then I'll be really surprised, and it would be time for a reappraisal..
I don't agree with them...
...I just thought the claim that the left was saying "Obama hates the gays" was incorrect and wanted to clear that point up.
I have no doubt that Congress will get us ENDA and a DADT repeal. Beyond that the clock is against us with the midterms. I'm not concerned about President Obama's love or ambivalence for us...we just need him to sign.

i remember when kevin and scotty's suits for their
weddingcommitment ceremony were criticized....I guess Kyle has better taste than either of them on that front.
Speaking of kyle and taste...I was relieved and a bit shocked to see last week that the show didn't have him wear those big button down shirts he wears most of the time on the show. I thought the show would never have him in any other kind of shirt
