Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • If you're as obsessed with Grey Gardens as I am you might want to check out this post on boyculture, which takes a look at The Letters of of Little Edie.
  • Gay fave Ewan McGregor will play the son of Christopher Plummer in the upcoming film Beginners. The plot will apparently revolve around Ewan's character's discovery that his elderly father is not only terminally ill, but is also about to come out of the closet. They're currently casting for the father's "handsome younger boyfriend." Any fantasy casting picks?

  • Above you can see Rachel Maddow continue her important "Fierce Advocate" series with a look at the latest "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" news.

    Does Geoffrey Knight know...

...that he's absconded with the title of a classic pre-World War I novel, Erskine Childers' The Riddle of the Sands, a best-seller that presciently predicted the war with Germany and led to the UK to increase its coastal defenses (and would later influence such writers as John Buchan and Ken Follett)? Beware the Amazon buyer who thinks their buying the Childers novel and gets Knight's book instead (or vice-versa)!

This book was my father's favorite and I've read it many times. I know you can't copyright a book title, but it's kind of like naming your romance novel "Gone with the Wind"!

    Southland Cancelled

News just broke over twitter that NBC's cancelled "Southland."

Alan Sepinwall, TV Critic for the NJ Star-Ledger, tweeted this in response to the news:

What are odds that season's 1st casualties would star Mischa Barton and Ben McKenzie? Stop being haters and learn to love The OC, TV biz!

Wha?? Did I miss Southland's season premiere?

I've never heard of a series being cancelled BEFORE the season premiere???  What the!?  Wow, ok, I'm officially boycotting Jay Leno's show...  Give us back our 5 hours of scripted drama, dammit!

    What the...

Wow, its true, even Wikipedia has it as cancelled, those guys work fast.

What a shame, this show was interesting and had a lot of potential and dont get me started on the loss of our boy.

I hope they shop around fast and gets picked up by a network that appreciates intelligent drama.

I am beyond disgusted with NBC

According to this Hollywood Reporter article:

While "Southland" enjoyed support among NBC brass last season, after screening the finished episodes from the upcoming second season, the show's content was deemed too dark and gritty for broadcast TV, especially for 9 p.m.

I refuse to watch the lame Leno show (well, I actually saw one episode and that was enough) - and why must it air at 10 pm anyway?

There isn't much in NBC's current line-up that I want to watch on a regular basis. This season, I was planning to follow Heroes, Chuck and Southland. Now it's down to two. I haven't been overly impressed with Trauma yet. Yeah, flashy SFX sequences are great but I need to care about the characters too.

NBC already shunted Medium aside to make room for the Leno show. Thankfully, CBS picked up the series. Here's hoping the producers of Southland are able to successfully shop the series to another network.

    As things stand, NBC=MASSIVE FAIL.

    Argh!!! Funderoos!

Snicks, you're the punniest punster that ever punned and I've got nothing but a gigantic throbbing heart-on for you. There is considerable overlap in our tastes in men. Case in point: Mr. Man, up there? Lickable.

That said, could someone please explain to me why anyone - but, for some unconscionable reason gay men in particular - would find funderoos sexy? Every time I strip down a hottie to find the good parts wrapped up in things like that I feel like tossing him out on his tushie. I'm sorry. I guess it's a silly thing to get hung up on, but when I see a grown man wearing undies that look like they should have a heat transfer of Scooby Doo's face across the ass, it makes loud "pedo alarms" go off in my head.

Even butt-floss banana hammocks make more sense to me than those.

Although I understand your reaction, they key is to look beyond the funderoos.
