When a lesbian student at a high school in Alabama asked to bring her girlfriend to the prom, the school said no, and when the ACLU decided to intervene ... the school canceled the entire prom. After an uproar, the prom may be back on, but there's still no word whether the student can bring her girlfriend.
Gay reporter sprite Michael Ausiello (and contrary to another blogger's bizarre assertion, Ausiello is a sprite, and NOT A SMURF) has confirmed that Dollhouse has officially been canceled, along with something on ABC called Hank. It now seems likely that Ugly Betty will move to the 8 PM timeslot on Wednesday nights (and the sooner the better).

Everyone who made the show work is dead. Jack was destroyed as a character. I'm sure RTD is overjoyed that Mary Sue Gwen is still around but she can't carry a show alone.
He does it with characters on different shows, so why not an entire show itself?
This way he can write something utterly different and still capitalize on the Torchwood name that millions of fans already know to hopefully garner a ready-made viewing audience for himself.
He can make a show where relatives no one has heard of or cares about are killed off by self-pitying team leaders, as various cast members not named Eve Myles are written out at random, in bad attempts at shock value.
if there is a season 4 of torchwood, I don't think i'll watch since this show is gwens show and i want someone from the show to just come out and admit that!
...i dont think it will do well in the ratings. yeah. ok.
I have to disagree. I won't watch the Gwen show either, but RTD could give Jack a new partner, develop a love triangle for Gwen and Jack, or there could be new members of Torchwood that have the possibly of drama in all other sorts of situations......So I guess I'm saying there's no telling what still lies in store for Jack. There's no telling what his plans are, and that is enough to keep me and others watching Season 4 I'm sure (at least for the first couple of episode). I'm simply not willing to give up on the show just yet.

even if jack were to get a new partner....i just bet the show would be mainly....gwen's show. even with the coupling of janto, i was still amazed at how gwen-centric the show was.
but we'll see. we'll just have to see what happens
Here's to hoping RTD doesn't let us all down. Also, considering Jack knows The Doctor You-Know-Who personally, I think that anything can always happen in terms of Ianto. I mean it could just be like those times when your mom was like "I'm not getting you that for Christmas", only for you to open that exact gift on Xmas with such glee you nearly crapped yourself!!

The problem with Jack is that I don't think he's credible as a hero anymore. The way CoE was written had Jack as just so flagrantly incompetent that his viability as an action hero is open to question as it is. But then you factor in the way he brainlessly led Ianto his death, and then went and killed his own grandson. To me that just makes him too badly damaged to actually like him anymore.
The only thing RTD left untouched was Gwen and she was always one of my least favorite aspects of the show. Everything else that I liked he ruthlessly destroyed. There's just nothing left but the name.
The show tried over and over and it was always forced. The only way Gwen is tolerable is because of the guy who plays her husband, Rhys. If they try to put her and Jack together romantically it will just destroy the last bit of the show RTD did not destroy.
This really confuses me, as at my prom you could bring whatever guest you wanted (provided they were under 21 and signed a waiver)...why did she have to ask permission?
That Bully video was odd but funny.
And AWESOME Briefs guy!! Man, I'd love to clean the dirt off him...
and two girls came to the Prom together. I remember being green with envy. And there were a few snotty looks and snide comments, but really no biggie. They even got their picture taken together. Thank God I didn't grow up in Alabama, I guess.
Edited: Just watched the Bully video. "I'm a totally awesome kisser". LOL!
I can't believe that game was what all the fuss was about. That's cheesier than Showgirls.
I think at my school you had to ask permission to bring somebody who didn't go to our school. The administration even did some sort of background check. We did have some gang issues in my area, though, so I wonder if it had to do with that?

That's what I found strange about the story, as well. People regularly go as friends, be it in groups or pairs, to prom. Especially girls. Even if this school was one where you needed to clear an out-of-school guest, it still would not be strange for a girl to bring another girl as her "date."
So, really, they were just saying no because they knew the girl was her real date, and not just a "date." Which is just ridiculous. "We know what you get up to behind closed doors, so no date for you!"
Concerning the SMURF that works at EW, I'd like to direct that other blogger here, and here especially, where he uses "smurfingly" in a sentence (that's enough to convict in Texas).
I hope they start the 4th season with all the cast members from the beginning hooked up to a giant "brain" machine - from Jack to Gwen, Ianto, Martha, etc. even Tosh and Owen. The keeper of the "brain" machine - some alien scientist - looks at a monitor and sees the ending of CoE (a.k.a. Torchwood Season 3) and remarks "well, that didn't work out... I guess this team configuration won't work well together after all." Then he fires a weapon at Gwen, vaporizes her, remarks "let's try it without her, perhaps this configuration will succeed" and then he starts up the "brain" machine again and stares into the monitor as Season 4 continues on the screen, giving the entire show a fresh start (except for Gwen, as it should be). :P
Auseillo says that Ugly Betty is staying on Fridays.
THEY CANCELED THE PROM?!?! Why would they cancel the prom because she wanted to bring her girlfriend? Its just one extra person. It shouldn't be such a big deal.
With "Hank" gone and "The Middle" in trouble,Ugly Betty will definitely get the 8pm time slot.Ironically,"Hank" is Kelsey Grammer's second post 'Fraiser' series in a row to flop, The first? "Back To You" with "In The Middle"'s Patricia Heaton.

Michael posted that he had that info confirmed by a "source close to the show". The only question was what time it would air. Eastwick has been cancelled, so that opens up 10, but that's a little bit late for a show like UB. I would rather it be on at 8.
RTD move to the States in order to learn everything about television making?
Because if he did he hasn't learned his lesson. You don't give almost the same interview to another venue as you did two months earlier. It makes you look desparate and silly.
RTD will never bring back Ianto because he likes lording his power over the 'stupid fans'. The Gwen Show would be as dull as she is. Jack as hero is morally bankrupt. AND who could possibly make an emotional investment in any new character? I loved this show, but I'll never watch it again.

I cant believe that they canceled the prom, what kind of backwoods out of touch high school is this? I mean its 2009, and gay people are all over and have been for thousnds of years! Come on! What a bunch of intolerant A**holes! I graduated from high school in 1993, and there were people who came as "friends" girls and boys both. I know that two of them were couples. I was not that comfortable with myself to go with the guy I was dating at the time, so we doubled with 2 girls... But nobody said a word about the other same sex "couples" that came together although I dont know what the reaction would have been if someeone would have said "Im bringing my "girlfriend/boyfriend" to the prom.. I did go to a catholic school, so they might have had the same reaction about being catholics and all, but that doesnt make it right..

According to a news article in the TimesDaily of Florence, Alabama dated November 11, 2009, the lesbian couple will be allowed to attend the prom. From the article:
Cynthia Stewart, 17, said school officials told her that she and her girlfriend cannot attend the prom as a lesbian couple.
Stewart sought help from the American Civil Liberties Union. The organization formally demanded that school officials reverse their decision.
School officials say they were already in the process of re-evaluating the issue and concluded Stewart's girlfriend can attend the prom in March as long as she is cleared through a screening process that all out-of-district dates must undergo when attending similar school functions.
The TimesDaily does not allow comment posts about their articles, but this article was picked up by the Birmingham News, which allows comments, and the majority of the comments defended the young woman's right to attend the prom with her girlfriend. Maybe there's hope for Alabama yet.
after i lost the election to class president, and found out that the prom would be in the decorated school gym (think 'carrie') i rented out the playboy club, had a catered dinner, took a hunky cop as my date, and crowned the evening by being made an honorary bunny...i still have the ears and tail!
While nothing would make me happier than an Ugly Betty move to Wednesday, I would guess it's not going to happen right away. ABC canceled "Hank" but they already picked up a full season of "The Middle," which means there's only a half an hour open at the 8 o'clock hour. They have episodes of "Better Off Ted" (which if you aren't watching, is also hilarious! And has had a couple of pretty gay friendly sub-plots like the general with a crush on Ted) that are being produced to fill that slot. Also, while they canceled "Eastwick," they've said that they are going to burn off the remaining episodes. I don't know if they are going to keep it in that time, but it seems possible.
It's really too bad they canceled "Samantha Who?" They could have had that on at 8, followed by"Better Off Ted," "Modren Family," and "Cougar Town." Then cap it off with "Ugly Betty." Yes, 10 o clock is a bit late, but I think it could really benefit from having a strong lead-in, rather than being asked to lead off the night.
