"Clara Sheller" Season 2 video clip update: Yowza!
In this hot but definitely NSFW clip from the French dramedy, Gilles finds out that Clara has lied to him (again!), and cuts their vacation short to return home to Paris, where he receives support and sympathy from J.P. ... among other things. Did I mention this clip is NSFW? Some random thoughts about this clip: 1. Wow. Just wow. 2. What the hell is it with Clara, babies, and lying? (after telling Gilles how much she wants to have his baby, he finds birth control pills in her bag). 3. This is not going to end well. 4. I am so hoping Clara walks in on them, just to see the look on her face. 5. I always figured J.P. would be the ... well, never mind. It was a hot scene. Frankly, I'm stunned by this development. I've been hoping for it, but it's going to be hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube for the three of them after this. Where do they go from here? I can't wait to find out! And just to take a step back again, try to imagine ANY of this happening on an American show. Submitted by on Mon, 2009-02-23 10:21. |

What I love the most
Gilles immediately drops his pants and turns onto his stomach. Just how much experience bottoming has he had? I'd sure love to see some flashbacks of that.
The scene is scorching, and yet so tender. There's something very sexy about this JP when he's in love scenes, and of course Gilles is a work of art.
That was hot. And
That was hot.
And amazing.
I love it when you really want something to happen in a TV-series / movie / book - and then those things actually happen...
Pure logic is the ruin of the spirit.
Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Too hot for American TV
which is a shame. I'd love to see Kevin and Scotty, or Luke and Noah in something that steamy - maybe we'd be surprisedat the top/bottom configuration in those relationships, too. Maybe one day...
I know I only watch this show through clips on AE, but especially with this development, doesn't it seem to be more about JP and less about Clara? Or are there massive arcs of Clara at work or something that we skim over here to justify the name of the show?
Definitely about Clara
YES!!!
This would NEVER air in the U.S.!
Or if it did, it would be massively cut.
My GOD that was HOT!!!!
I haven't been following this show at all, but I'm guessing the "straight" guy is new to this? Because he seemed very uncertain about the kissing. Then he suddenly just lets it all go and rolls over.
The implication alone of what that would portend would send most most straight male American viewers fleeing from the room to go hide in a corner with their back to the wall!
To think we get excited whenever Kevin and Scotty on B&S share a closed-mouth kiss!
jp was gilles first male love
Giles and JP = Perfect Together, Clara Needs To Recognize
I think Gilles has slept with men before but JP was the first man he ever fell in love with. When Gilles first kissed JP in JP's apartment, he made it clear that being with a man was not a new thing to him.
I think Gilles' hesitance was about his feelings toward JP and fear about what was going to happen once he and JP crossed the threshold and consummated their feelings for each other because the first time around they never slept together.
Last time JP freaked. It clearly hurt Gilles deeply because he was so pained when he spoke about it in JP's kitchen on the evening of the most strained dinner party since Scotty brought home soft-shelled crab!
I don't think Gilles was nervous about being with a man, I think he was nervous about his future with JP.
Maybe it's weird to say it but love is very complicated and I think Gilles never stopped loving JP. Clara was his second choice and while he clearly loves Clara, I think he's been waiting for JP to have the courage to finish what they started.
I also think Clara knows that what happened between Gilles and JP was never truly resolved so I'm interested to see what her reaction will be.
After everything she's done to both men, I'm hoping she'll have the grace to just back right out the door and go handle her "feelings" on her own.
"Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common." (Dorothy Parker)
Thanks for the breakdown guys
Bisexuality would make this only harder for American audiences to relate to. Conservatives would argue the Gilles is making a wrong "choice" and that Clara is encouraging this with her actions, while JP is leading him astray.
This makes me think again of the great French movie Love Songs (Le Chansons D'Amour) wherein the protagonist goes from a relationship with a woman to a new one with a man without any discussions of sexual orientation coming up. Or Christian and Olli on Verbotene Liebe. It just seems as if Europeans have a less rigid imagination when it comes to notions of love and sexuality.
In any case, this clip was hot enough to be limited to premium channels around here!
un bel di vedremo was a nice touch
The famous aria (i hope i'm not the only one who noticed it) was such a beautiful touch from a beautiful show... FYI (for our young readers) that particular song (in a scene from Madama Butterfly) was about this japanese girl waiting for his one true love as ships arrive (or will arrive as she confidently awaits). in this version the scene showed trains arriving and then gilles appeared in jp's door.... such a lovely scene... but with a better ending that what happend with Butterfly (in the opera)... oh god i hope this has a better ending - i mean... gilles deserves better... he's kind, loving, not to mention dreamy. he deserves more than a girl of a mess like clara. and i hope jp now realizes dreams do come true and hold on to that dream...
this is the best episode of CS so far. i've given up on american t.v. ever since Ollian graced our computer screens so it doesn't really make sense to compare us with european shows anymore.
Wow!
He rolled over...
He rolled over, removed his pants (with JP's help) and then JP climbed on his back. Not much imagination was needed here!
At that moment most straight American men would have hurled the remote at the TV screen!
What a tastefully
What a tastefully yet realistic scene between the two men. Like someone said, you won't never find this on us tv. Vive la france!
Random comment number 5
Random comment number 5 reminds me of a comment which JP's mother's "boyfriend" Joseph made earlier in the season. Here's a rough translation:
Joseph: JP, I'll explain to you what's happening between you [and Clara]. Your friend Clara, she's egotistical, she lies: she's a guy. And your Gilles, he's sweet, courageous, he wants to create a home; there's a big void in his life, a strong need to fill this void, either with a child, or with someone he loves, profoundly; so he's a girl.
JP: So what am I then?
Joseph: Well you're a lesbian!
Hahaha. That was hot.
Hahaha.
That was hot. Although I still miss Gilles # 1, I'm finding this Gilles (#2) to be all sorts of adorable.
AHA!
Perfect aha moment. Sort of like when that flake told JP at the end of season one-after JP tells him 'all i want is to go on kissing you'-after reaching for JP's tongue down his throat-and he says 'we can say goodbye properly'.Bastard
I think I am in love with that bastard though. Another lesbian in the making.
J'ai une petite question:As
J'ai une petite question:
As compelling as this story is, and further - as much I love to see them together - don't you guys think that JP should have been more, je ne sais quoi, embarassed - seeing that Clara is his best friend? Take away the element of homosexuality - and the elements left behind are still a bit shady at best. Anyway, incredibly entertaining. Ok, and just for the record - I was totally thinking that JP was going to umm, well, be the - well you know.
ALSO: Can anyone identify the song that is being played at the end of (last few moments) the clip? I don't know much about the song and/or can identify the musician, but I do like it and would love to hear more.
Song
In season 1
If I remember correctly, in season 1, JP & Gilles sleep together, and then Clara comes along and basically steals Gilles from JP (oh and after that I think they have a threesome). So JP isn't completely out of line here... But you're right, if this was a straight story it would be pretty shady!
As to JP being the "well you know", see my comment above which might clarify the writer's choice.
Gilles and JP Going All The Way in Season 1
In Season 1
JP and Gilles kissed a lot but they never had sex because JP was afraid he'd get hurt and he kept pushing Gilles away.
He literally left Gilles laying on the bed with his shirt off before they got to go any further than kissing
JP makes a reference to not getting to have sex with Gilles when he's talking to Denis and Pascal at the gym and says he regrets that he doesn't even have a "raunchy anecdote" to show for his time making out with Gilles.
The night that JP, Clara and Gilles fell asleep together in the park, they didn't have sex, they just kissed all night long.
Clara explains this fact to her then boyfriend and JP and Clara reference it when said how it made them feel innocent "like children".
"Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common." (Dorothy Parker)Thanks for the recap
Clara, look who is really interested in you!!
I have really enjoyed reading all the comments above.
This scene is the last in episode 4 with two episodes to go so there are a few twists and turns left to play out. The majority of the episodes are devoted to Clara, her work, her relationships with Gilles and JP or with her family and friends. Her brother, Mathieu is played sensitively by Jeremie Elkaim, perviously seen in a number of gay related French movies.
The problem with Clara is that she cannot see the wood for the trees. In a parallel story Clara has an admirer, Antoine played by the handsome Thomas Jouannet. She flirts with him, obviously really likes him but is blind to the possibility of him being her partner despite his obvious enthusiasm for her.
The comments above about Gilles and his feelings for JP are, I think, spot on.
All will be revealed in the not too distant future, courtesy of ZTube31.
Yowza is right. I mean...
Um. Wow.
Haven't seen Clara Sheller before, but it looks like I've got some catching up to do.
Again, WOW.
Clara, JP and Gilles
Hmm, I didn't think you guys in the US had not seen or heard about how season 2 ends, so I won't spoil it (I've owned the season 2 DVD and soundtrack ever since season 2 aired back in October or so).
True what's been said above, JP and Gilles never slept together. In season 1 it is JP that's scared to go all the way and runs away, making Gilles find consolation in Clara's arms and bed. Gilles has moved on since, but not entirely as is obvious. JP hasn't moved on at all as you can tell from what he says to Gilles in the above clip (at 2:40). He's been in love with Gilles for the last 3 years and has not been able to have any serious relationship because of it.
I agree that the scenes between JP and Gilles are very steamy, yet tender. It's not been accepted by all Europeans as easily and on forum's I've been on some people were outraged - especially mothers fearing for their kids seeing it, as it aired at a pre-watershed time. But you know what? Clara Sheller is being aired again right this moment (today 2 episodes in a row) on France 4.. and you know when? At 2:00pm (and again 2 episodes at 8:35pm) in the afternoon.. so all those screaming mothers probably put their children outside in rainy weather... and watched it by themselves, with their husbands away in the pub.
For info - the 'Antoine' of the first season (Philippe Lefèbvre) played gay in "Sa Raison d'Etre" ("His Reason to Be" - 2008 made for TV, with Nicolas Gob in one of the main roles), mentioned on AE before, a very powerful 2-episode drama about AIDS and its consequences.

Are they objecting to sex scenes on afternoon tv in general?
Clara Sheller - all ok
But that's the thing. They lose themselves in contradictory comments, but basically any sex scenes are not tolerated as kids may be scarred for life or something. But it also kind of degenerated into not accepting anything that's not 'standard'..
I'm one of those who say that I'd rather have my kids watch two people (any gender) make love than all that violence that's on TV - even in cartoons. I have many many dreams about dead people or people dying (last Friday it was a dream about my sister dying in a bicycle accident..) - while I'm not saying it's solely the fault of TV, it may still be that it is (even though I loathe violence and I'm very good at quickly closing eyes and ears when such scenes come up). I don't get the same outraged people's silence to comments about the fact that it's much more damageable for kids to watch violence on TV than to see two people making love.
I don't know if you read French but on this Forum you can follow some of the spiral arguments that ensued with those that didn't approve at all (especially 'impulsive' and 'Axelle Do' - btw I forget if they were both mothers really, or whether they just played the 'kid card' to serve their own homophobic sentiments - oh wait, I think one said something about having adopted a child) and those that didn't mind at all: http://forums.france2.fr/france2/clara-sheller/vraiment-navrant-sujet_109_1.htm [may contain spoilers!]
But I believe that it's really only a handful that disapproved and Clara Sheller just did not hit in like a bomb because of the gay story. Also I didn't read article upon article in the newspapers or on the web, about how badly the reactions were. If at all an indication that Clara Sheller's story did not appeal to the larger audience (for whatever reason) is the lack of it (audience) for season 2. So, maybe of those who watched season 1 a big chunk was not enchanted at all. But instead of going up on the barricades, that part of the audience decided to stay clear from season 2.

Another season of Clara Sheller?
Thanks, j U d E.
Have you heard if there will be a Season 3 of Clara Sheller? France 2 was indicating before the airing of Season 2 in November last year that additional seasons were planned and the ending of Season 2 certainly set it up for another but perhaps the problematic ratings put paid to that.

As far as I know, yes there will be a third season (but don't take my word for it). Apparently it was official that there would be a third season, even before season 2 aired (and the audience results was less than great..). Zoé Félix (Clara Sheller) is sure to take her role as Clara again. Somewhere else I read, that all three main actors were sure to be in season 3, but again, it's only something I've read on the web and you never know.. They say that it will not air before 2010 (even late 2010) as the author is only now starting to write it...
