"Clara Sheller" video clip update #7: Revelations
When last we left the French dramedy Clara Sheller, our semi-closeted hero J.P. had cut loose his diminutive boyfriend, the street juggler Ben, and was commiserating with his gal pal Clara. Today's clip opens with Clara babysitting her newborn niece, and when she asks J.P. to hold the baby, he cradles her gently and says "she reminds me of Ben" (which I have to admit, made me laugh). When two of Clara's busybody friends enter the scene, Clara convinces J.P. to pretend to be the baby's daddy. Because they already think Clara is the mother. J.P. goes along with it, but he makes clear that HE IS NOT READY TO BE A FATHER ... which has Clara looking concerned. Hmmm ... J.P. has dinner with his folks, who still believe that he and Clara are a couple. It's during this dinner scene that two gigantic revelations are made. I'll leave it to you to discover what happens, but I'll give you a hint: Remember that one night when both Clara and J.P. got drunk, and ... stuff happened between them? Yep, that's right. Well, it'll be interesting to see how this show handles a chestnut like this. They haven't been afraid to show that J.P. has flaws, so how he handles this should be fascinating to watch. Remember the other day when we ran an article about how European television is where it's at when it comes to fully-developed gay characters? Watch and learn. You can see the clip after the break, and thanks to ZTube31 for the translations. Submitted by on Thu, 2008-08-14 11:53. |

I love the mom's reaction at the end
Absolutely hilarious!
By the way, Thierry Neuvic, who will show up as JP and Clara's hunky neighbor in future episodes, has a small part in Tell No One, a 2006 French thriller that won several Cesar awards (including Best Director for gorgeous Guillaume Canet) that has just been released in the U.S.; it's also worthy of note in that the hero's sister (played by Marina Hands) is a lesbian and her lover (played by Kristin Scott-Thomas) provides pivotal assistance to the hero. I suspect an American remake is inevitable, and I hope they retain the positive portrayal of the lesbian angle.
