UPDATE: The video of the interview is now up on The View's website.

Out Emmy and Tony winner David Hyde Pierce stopped by The View this morning to discuss his role in the new Broadway play Accent on Youth and the talk eventually shifted to his feelings on getting married and Proposition 8.

When asked by Barbara Walters about the wedding, and why very few people knew that he got married to his partner Brian Hargrove after twenty years, David was honest and concise:

It was twenty-five years, and we got married last October. Brian and I always sort-of kept a low profile. We didn't hide our lives, but we just thought 'let's make an example of just people going about their lives and trying to create the best household', and our families, and friends and colleagues knew all about us.
We got married very quietly last October 24th, and thought that was fine ... and suddenly the state of California said 'no it's not'. And what we thought was a private, personal decision turned out not to be. We now find out that legally we are still married, but that's a mixed-thing too, it's like 'oh great, we made the cut'.

Barbara mentions that David has now been going to marriage-equality rallies, and he explains why:

I've been going because I've had this experience of having this private thing suddenly dragged out into the public and have people I don't know take a vote - can you imagine - if you're married and have all the people in your state get together and say 'well you know what, you're not'.

It's a very odd thing, and I understand all the religious and emotional issues involved, but it was a very angry-making feeling, both in November when it was taken away from me, and this past Tuesday sitting in front of the television thinking 'I hope the Supreme Court thinks it's okay for me to be married'. Excuse me, but it's none of your business!

Of course during all of this Sherri Shepherd just nodded politely, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck immediately changed the subject afterward, but David's point was well-made.
