David Tennant moves from the Tardis to the closet in "Einstein and Eddington"

Yesterday we told you about David Tennant's decision to bid adieu to Doctor Who. Fans of the Scottish actor will get to see a whole new side to the actor at the end of November when he plays a closeted scientist in the mini-series Einstein and Eddington.

The series is about the relationship of Albert Einstein and Sir Arthur Eddington:

"In the Spring of 1914, with Europe on the brink of war, no one had heard of an obscure German physicist called Albert Einstein. A British astronomer, Arthur Eddington, realised that Einstein’s theories could unlock whole new ways of thinking about time and space. Despite the danger of being labelled traitors, the two men began a unique correspondence. An eclipse in Africa provided an opportunity to prove Einstein’s theories to the world. Eddington, an unlikely hero, set out on a journey that would change people’s perceptions of the universe forever."

David says that he wanted to take the role because it afforded the opportunity to tell this story in a way it hasn't before:

"In some ways he is a great, forgotten man, which is why this is an intriguing story to tell. There is one biography which I found and that was very helpful, although there are elements of his private life which are skirted around. The story we tell is of a man who couldn't quite face the fact that he was gay."

Learn more about the role at David's website, and look for the mini-series on the BBC Nov. 22nd - 28th.

Keep an Eye on BBC America

Given how popular Dr. Who has gotten stateside, I'd imagine this is something BBC America would be interested in snapping up, if nothing else.  I'd also imagine a DVD release would be likely, although not a given.

    Bittorrent IS a given. :)

    HBO co-produced

HBO had a hand in producing Einstein and Eddington, so I'm guessing it should air on HBO after the BBC shows it. The DVD cover for the UK has already been revealed, though I dont' know when it will be be released on region 1.

    DVD Release

Sorry, when I said DVD release was likely but not a given, I meant in Region 1.  A Region 2 DVD release for a David Tennant movie was far more than likely, even if it hadn't already been revealed!

Sorry to bring back an older

Sorry to bring back an older thread but I just managed to view Einstein and Eddington recently and I was just blown away with it. Amazing bit of history and David's work showing the conflicted emotions of Eddington truly impressive. Whenever you have a chance to watch this movie do so.
