Clay Aiken "True Hollywood Story" set to blow the minds of a million crazy cat ladies
In the fickle business of show, there is one sure sign that you've either hit the big time, or died tragically and unexpectedly: your very own episode of the E True Hollywood Story. Thankfully for the newly out Clay Aiken, it's the former, as his THS will premiere tomorrow night on the E! network. There are some definite eyebrow-raisers in the list of who's going to This revealing episode features an exclusive interview with former Army Green Beret John Paulus, who claims he was romantically involved with Clay for one night in 2006. There’s also a new interview with Clay’s number-one fan, comedian Kathy Griffin, who explains she was afraid she would run into Clay after joking about him during her act. Other new interviews include: actor/director Terrence Mann, who directed Clay in regional theater when he was just starting out; Rickey Smith, a finalist with Clay on American Idol, who shares his opinion of Clay’s performance on the show, as well as his reaction to Clay becoming a proud father; Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLADD) President Neil Guiliano, who comments on Clay’s recent controversial announcement; and several devoted Clay fans at a performance of his Broadway show, Spamalot. Well, the interview with Kathy is enough to get me to watch, and that Green Beret just sweetens the pot. Yikes! Do you plan on watching, and if so, what would you like to see them cover? And perhaps more importantly: Will the Claymates be able to handle the truth?! Submitted by on Thu, 2008-12-11 18:59. |

Truth
Will the Claymates be able to handle the truth?! Can they handle the TRUTH?!!
*cues dramatic music*
:P
Well, the truth is that in 2007, Clay Aiken fans collectively donated $110,000.00 to support UNICEF's campaign in Mexico to help save lives of children affected by floods, and $181,783.03 to UNICEF's campaign in Afghanistan to provide medical services, vaccinations, safe drinking water to the poorer areas and to promote literacy for girls. :) My point is not to show off, because these are not huge amounts. For example, Bono and others have raised millions with Live 8 concerts. But my point in bringing this up is to indicate the kind of topics (most) Clay fans actually give a care about.
While I can only speak for myself, I can assure you that this Crazy Cat Lady's mind is not blown by the idea that Kathy Griffin is a fame whore, and that E! True Hollywood Story likes to capitalize on gossip and sensationalism for profit, and that human lives are objectified, commodotized, and sold as entertainment. (And when celebrities voluntarily participate in this, I don't feel sorry for them.) I am also not suprised by the fact that people wil claim to have slept with celebrities for a chance at fame. Even Perez Hilton has said that John Pukus is messed up in the head. (Umm... pot, meet kettle.)
I will be truly shocked, but pleasantly so, the day that more people pay attention to what Craig Kielburger, for example, is doing with his life (google him if you're not familiar - it will make you smile), than some pop star's personal life.
E THS
Not a Claymate, but in the interest of honesty in reporting, said green beret told his "story", recanted his story, and then retold the original story all in the interest of his own self promotion. Little man, pretty useless, looking for his additional moments of fame. Pure and simple the man is nothing less than a stalker. A guy like Clay Aiken doesn't need to hook up with the likes of the litte green beret. Too bad "true hollywood story" didn't follow up more closely on the history of this walking nutcase in order to find out what he is all about. FWIW, it should be pure entertainment, the "claymates" have been "listening" to this guys hysterical rantings/blogging for three years so a friend tells me, so I doubt they are going to be very blown away by the "true story."
Clay rates a THS episode for
This article's title isn't a true reflection of his fans.
If you only hear about the little old christian ladies message board (Clayboard) or the Pray For Clay groups, I can understand why this urban legend got around but there are hundreds of fan boards. Some that are gay friendly, some are gaycentric. Some are all men and some are all teenagers. There are lecherous broads groups, "we hate Clay but we can't stop talking about him" boards and every other kind you can imagine. Love him or hate him this guy is hugely popular but he also has a hugely varied fan base.
How pathetic
What is wrong with the world when a creep is given air time 3 years after stalking a celebrity he claimed he had a one night stand with. If his claim had been about a woman celebrity, he would be treated like the stalker he is. It's also pathetic that some gay men seem to find this funny.
The classiest guy on the show was Neil Guiliano from GLAADD. Good representation.
Kathy Griffin is a fame whore!
But come on, John Paulus even went as far as taking and passing a polygraph test. There has to be some truth to his story.
His is good, old fashioned gossip. You gotta love that, and the image that the "sit and spin" sexual encounter brings to mind -always makes me chuckle. Thanks y'all for reminding me of that.
You do realize polygraph tests....
You do realize polygraph tests are notoriously unreliable?
As for Kathy Griffin, she proudly admits to being a fame whore. She recorded a comedy CD for the express purpose of winning a Grammy award. She's halfway there now with the recently announced nomination.
I know about the tests
Yes Polygraph tests conducted by the National Enquirer are totally suspect. But regardless, I do believe Paulus is telling his truth. I've read his side of the story, and seen his interviews. He has lost far more than he could ever have gained from this. I believe that he was looking for truth in his life and that is why he came out with the story about Clay.
It's hilarious to see Claymates harp on and on about this episode in Aikens sorted past.
Kathy Griffin is fantastic and I say more power to her. but I was quoting bountiful's post. You should be calling her on that. Oh wait, you just did.
.
kathy griffin...
You're free to like Kathy Griffin if you want. I will simply never get her. I don't find her funny, and that has nothing to do with whatever she's said about Clay. Here in Canada, we don't hear much about her actual stand up act, so I don't know the contents of her standup act. But I've seen her on tv, and I never understood what was supposed to be funny about this public persona of hers. But I notice she always has comments to make about other people, and that seems to me, like it's all about getting attention to herself. I'll always think of her as a fame whore, sorry. (That said, she was funny when she was on the Dog Whisperer, but that was the one time she entertained me.)
And I have a feeling that Kathy Griffin would have no problem at all being described as a fame whore.
thanks
And if you were initially being sarcastic before, I'm sorry I missed that.
you're welcome
Glad to bestow my blessing any time. Just name a celebrity, and I'll give you my permission to like them. ;)
But, seriously, I have no animosity towards Kathy. I'm not going to go out of my way to hate on her. but if I am talking about her, I'll have to be honest about my feelings about her brand of entertainment (not her, individually). If I knew her as a person, not a celebrity, I would probably like her.
Actually...
...I love Kathy Griffin, too. I think it boils down to understanding a particular type of humour. Some people are offended, some laugh. It is the same with folks that hated Little Britain. Either you laugh or you are highly offended. Kathy is a fierce, no holds barred, raunchy chick that loves to offend everyone. But, in doing so, she exposes humanity at it's worse and best. I thought Anderson Cooper would NEVER do a show with her again, he even said so during last year's New Years Eve thing on CNN. But, low and behold, he is doing it with her again this year. I mean not the big IT. Heh. But, the New Year's Eve bash in New York. She has come sooooo close to calling him out, then reins it in... I can't wait to see what happens this year. Fun stuff.

Good Grief! This thread is Fag-Hag Central !
Speaking as one who has contributed to three (count 'em) E! True Hollywood Story episodes (Rock Hudson, Tony Perkins, Sonny Bono) the fact that they're going for Clay means the bottom of the barrel is a good deal lower than I ever imagined.
What's next? Rick Martin meets Supernanny?

words and labels...
Do people still use that term? I hope you don't suggest people should only like those of their own sexual orientation? That would be sad. :-(
Sorry to disappoint you
First I give you credit for an eye catching title to your blog even if I disagree with it. I am a fan of Clay's (not a Claymate). Could care less about that guy who had the one night stand. Hate cats. Have never and never will have anything against gay people sorry to disappoint.
Of course "people" still use that term. IT'S APPROPRIATE!!!
Mallomars...?
I was going to say that Mallomars are no longer sold either, but I googled, and I guess they are.
Why is it that they so strongly suggest a particular era (late 50s-early 70s) to me? Wikipedia says they were introduced in 1913. Were they just more popular mid-century? Part of the whole packaged-foods-are-the-future craze? I am now obsessed with tracing the cultural history of the mallomar.
No, not "distant gay traces" -- it's distingué traces!
. . .
I guess I don't understand what you meant in the context you were using it. Obviously you didn't mean it in the post-modern, fun sense of the term. It sounded like you were saying it was a bad thing for straight women to be fans of gay men, which wouldn't make sense. A noticeable number of posters on this website are women who are big fans of either gay characters or real gay guys. I guess I don't see why you look down on us.
Oh well. No biggie. Even if I rarely agree with you, I still love you, David. I hope that doesn't make you hate me. :P
wag fag?
If anybody has a derogatory term for that, sling away because I will wear it with pride
.
I love you a little bit....
....Nukely.
I say we take the warning labels off everything and let nature take it's course.
I don't think....
....David likes us very much. I can't fathom why. As a member of at least two minority groups, I adore folks that are my allies. But, when all is said and done, I judge folks on their words and deeds, not the demographic they belong to.
I say we take the warning labels off everything and let nature take it's course.
Words, Deeds, AND Demographics
Gay men aren't "low-hanging fruit" (to mix a metaphor) to be picked off for the casual delectation of outsiders.
Yes, you read that right -- outsiders.
David, David, David...
Why are you so intent to ghetto-ize yourself as a gay man? From what I can tell from your postings and writings, you don't ghetto-ize yourself as a black man, so why as a gay man? It seems so counterproductive in so many ways.
Plus, you obviously misunderstand what's going on here for many if not most of our str8 female friends. Far from being "casual delectation", for many it's a genuine kinship born of shared sensitivities, or shared interests, or shared status as self-perceived outsiders. To me there's nothing casual about that, and I welcome their friendship.
David...
...you may think of or refer to your community in derogatory terms, but I never have. You seem to be saying "shut up and go away". Is there any particular reason that our contributing to the conversation in some of these forums threatens you? Does it worry you that we may have developed friendships here? Does those friendships seem to be harmful to the gay community? To you?
I was always under the impression that the strongest communities are the diverse ones. Until someone proves different to me, I still going to go with that.
I say we take the warning labels off everything and let nature take it's course.
You're free to do exactly as you choose
And I'm free to call you on it.
This forum is called "After Elton" and it's by and for gay men. "After Ellen" is for lesbians.
Not sure where you fit in.
Well...
...since Michael Jensen so graciously and sincerely welcomed me (and all others) to this site 1 year and 38 weeks ago, I'm going with that.
I say we take the warning labels off everything and let nature take it's course.
Why so harsh?
I want to confide this one thing: I have to say that I never felt lonely until I started posting on AfterElton. Seriously. Being with "my people" makes me feel very alone because I am not a guppy and I am not a wit and quite simply I am just not much of anything when it comes down to being gay. I am a gay man and I was an activist in my early life. That's it.
While I might acknowledge that I am alone in this world, you have to understand that isn't an emotional response as much as a realization. But actually feeling lonely? David, some times what you write makes me feel very lonely, I'm ashamed to say, makes me feel lonely while I never focused on being alone.
I don't care if it is because of her sex or not, but Janet is the one. She is the one person at AfterElton who helps me feel like I, as a gay man, that I actually belong to this community. She held her hand out to me, a gay freak. That is something I can't imagine you would do for your beloved gay brethren. Please don't shame the fine women who comfort us, well, or the lovely lady who comforted me.
WTF???
Nukely - Why the hell are you giving me a zero rating for a post (just below) that further defends Janet and our other str8 friends against David, just as you did??? What the F**K is that about??? Why do you get to defend people and attack David, and when I do the same you give me a zero???
No wonder you feel lonely here when you treat people like that.
The thing is....
....there's literally nothing to call her on.
There's nothing on this site, and nothing ever said by the creators and editors, that says the site shouldn't be read by anyone, or that the forum isn't open to everyone. The heading on the site says "News, Reviews and Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men..." That says nothing about who should read, and nothing about who should share comments and observations. Again, you're ghetto-izing yourself in a most unfortunate manner.
Amen, Janet.
I just don't get it. I really don't. Why do minorities insist on creating pecking orders from within? Just a rhetorical question. Intellectually I understand the sociological need to self canabalize. But - from the heart - I just don't get it. Why visit this crap on each other? To what purpose?
Gay men, bisexuals, lesbians, gender variants, drag queens, drag kings, little emo boys and, yes, fag hags - we're all just faggots and queers to the outside world. Does anyone really think homophobes make such distinctions when they aim on our direction? At the end of the day we're all in the same boat. Oh dear. Major cliche warning. United we stand; divided we fall.
Seriously, Prozac or weed or something stat.
I'm sure online is just where you go to vent, but good lord you've got a lot of it to vent.
Can you maybe do something to cheer yourself up?
And, speaking as a gay man who's never been that good at rocking the whole "insiders' club" scene, I do not see the limits of our community in the same way you do - if I did, I would probably be outside those limits myself.
No, not "distant gay traces" -- it's distingué traces!
outsiders
Interesting choice of words. I do get a better idea now, of where you're coming from.
I understand your position that I am an outsider to your community. I have only a couple of gay/bi friends R/L, but you would be the outsider in their community, whereas I'd be the insider. There are many types of communities in the world. Anybody can have an interest in this website, because any community can have an interest in news about gay men. As you probably know already, there are gay men in many communities, not just gay communities.
But on the larger scale... the idea of 'insider' or 'outsider' can get in the way. They have their uses, because they can give us a sense of place in society, so we don't feel lost in a sea of humans. But, don't take it too seriously. Even the two closest people who have loved and known each other for years will be alien to each other sometimes. But, on the other hand, any two people in the world can, if they choose, find common ground with each other and recognize, in each other, the basic commonality of the human spirit. We don't always have to make that choice, but it helps to remember that we can, and that we're not that different from each other.
Mallomars
Well now I'm a candidate for "The Worst Person in the World"
So be it.
I have no idea why you feel alone, Nukely. But I'm not sure a thread devoted to Clay Aiken is the proper setting to discuss it.
so be it-
but you're right.
The last place to be honest or expose honesty is on a thread about Clay Aiken. It just slipped out. That's my excuse.
And for the record, I was trying to make a distinction between being alone (a state we all are in to one degree or another) and the emotional response to that, feeling lonely.
Make Him Go Away
