AfterElton Briefs: Gay African-American media images, Sean Penn in Rolling Stone, and more!

Don't worry, Sean Penn is not the world's scariest techno prophet

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Boy Culture has some excerpts from the upcoming Rolling Stone interview with Sean Penn. The Milk Oscar nominee talks about the importance of the legacy of Harvey Milk and of the first time he knew what "gay" meant.
  • William Shatner is continuing his looney passive-aggressive feud with former co-star George Takei. He's now saying that before he lets the out icon on his new A&E show Raw Nerve, he'll have to be vetted ... "like a horse".
  • In what's sure to cause a few waves, there's a new article at Examiner.com that suggests that King David (who apparently was some dude in the Bible) was gay.

Deondray Gossett

  • In Hollywood on February 11th, the National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) and GLAAD will host a forum on the too-infrequent intersection of African American and LGBT images in media. The panel will explore the historical under-representation of these images, the ongoing advocacy efforts to promote the telling of these stories and the professional issues and challenges facing openly gay African American artists. Among the panelists will be out DL Chronicles creator Deondray Gossett.
  • Finally, it's about time we had a good showbiz catfight, and we may have one with Etta James and Beyonce. The ageless diva apparently took umbrage with Beyonce's cover of her signature song "At Last" on Inauguration Day. "I can't stand Beyoncé. She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol' president day, gonna be singing my song that I've been singing forever." Did I mention how much I love ageless divas?

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

This guy!

Are there more helmet men in underwear only coming along?

Is someone going through a men in iron helmet-gear phase? :]

    Macho underwear

The pics are from a shoot for a brand of underwear called "Macho" - I saw a bunch of them over on another site last week.  Methinks Snicks has ordered some Spanish underwear based on his recent selections.  I'm not complaining or anything, the guys are hot, and as was remarked elsewhere, if you're going to name a line of underwear that includes a leopard print thong "Macho" you've got to resort to some pretty powerful imagery to sell that concept.

    Underoos

Yeah, but a fetish for a combination of underoos and ancient military gear is an odd combo, to say the least.

As to my personal taste, it's a clash of styles.  One or the other, please.

the story of the love between david and jonathan

is nothing new.... i have always though that it was common knowledge that they have a loving homosexual relationship (though was obviously downplayed by the religulous as platonic).

    consider this "platonic" relationship:

When David had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was bound to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul

"Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, 'May the LORD seek out the enemies of David.' Jonathan made David swear again by his love for him; for he loved him as he loved his own life."

"David rose from beside the stone heap and prostrated himself with his face to the ground. He bowed three times, and they kissed each other, and wept with each other; David wept the more"..... (this was when jonathan found out that his father saul was going to kill david and immediately looked for his boyfriend to give the bad news - wow - now doesn't this make a good storyline in a soap opera?)

"Your love (jonathan's love) to me was wonderful, passing the love of women"
(this is the killer line - HOW THE HELL CAN YOU SAY THAT THEIR RELATIONSHIP WAS PLATONIC WHEN HE COMPARED JONATHAN'S LOVE TO A WIFE'S LOVE!?!?!?!)

all of these were taken from the bible. now i've read the whole bible (old and new) twice! (i was a devoted catholic boy - i know, i know... i'm pathetic)... and nowhere have i read such devoted love between two men as described here in the book of Samuel.

That David and Jonathan were lovers has been axiomatic for two millinnea: like Achilles and Patroclus, Alexander and Haphaestion, Matt and Ben, etc.
