His life on ice: How "real" will Johnny Weir's new Sundance reality show be?

Three-time U.S. Figure Skating Champion and 2006 Olympian Johnny Weir will be getting the reality show treatment thanks to the Sundance Channel, who will be all up in his business as he prepares for his final Olympics. From the press release:

Be Good Johnny Weir is a new series of 8 episodes, with cameras following Johnny, along with his coach, friends, choreographers, costumer, and skating manager mom Patti Weir through the ups and downs of his career. Weir is working toward what will be his last Winter Olympics in February 2010.

Well, this should be interesting. As eccentric and flamboyant as Johnny has been on the ice, he's always been guarded when it comes to his private life. When it comes to "the question", this is what Johnny has to say:

"I don't feel the need to express my sexual being because it's not part of my sport and it's private." "I can sleep with whomever I choose and it doesn't affect what I'm doing on the ice, so speculation is speculation."
"I like nice things, and beautiful things, so if that is the only way people are determining that I swing one way or the other, then to me, that's sad. You can't judge a book by its cover, ever. I am who I am, and I don't need to justify anything to anyone."

Hopefully, this new series will let us see the Johnny behind the wonderfully gaudy costumes and absolutely hilarious statements. (My favorite? When asked about his single red glove: "I call my glove Camille ... two L's.")

While I am looking forward to the series, I don't like the title. I much prefer the original title for the show, Johnny Weir: Black Swan Rising. Now that's a title!

Will you be watching Johnny's life on ice when it premieres later this year on Sundance?

    I'll Watch

I'll watch, because I'm a skating fan (and a Johnny fan). Very curious as to how much of his outside/daily life not centering on skating they'll show. It seems like it'll mainly be about the trial and tribulations of training a preparing and that type of thing. Hmmm.

    Love it

Can't wait. I love love love Johnny Weir.

After Adam Lambert wins American Idol may I suggest a Crossroads-like buddy road trip movie starring Adam, Johnny, and Neil Patrick Harris?
