"Hollyoaks" video clip update: Learning to Craul

There's so much going on with John Paul, Kieron and Craig that we're presenting the first (but not the last) HOLLYOAKS MEGA-POST!

The first clip opens with Steph, who is horrified to discover that her family has resurrected Methuselah and is keeping him hidden in their flat (or it could be the Dennis Hopper character from Blue Velvet). In any case, she's appalled.

Craul have a conversation about Kieron seeing them hug, but J.P. says there's nothing to worry about. After all, Craig is just an "old friend", right? Craig convinces J.P. that he needs to go talk it out with his boyfriend, and I have to say that so far, Craig is not being presented as a homewrecker, but someone who genuinely cares for J.P.'s happiness ... so far.

For me, though, the most entertaining part of this first clip is Michaela, who starts hearing voices! She has a crush on her best friend's dad, and it's causing inanimate objects to speak to her, ala some kind of John Waters Disney movie.

The second clip opens with Darren trying to prevent Craig from seeing his mother, lest he learn the truth about Mrs. Allardyce in the attic (and my undying love to anyone who gets that reference). When My Chemical Romance Jr. shows up, Darren tries to convince him and Craig to get know each other better, which has everyone positively thrilled.

After some hot histrionics with Steph and the living dead guy, J.P. and Kieron talk about the return of Craig, and J.P. has to convince him that he knew nothing about his ex coming back. And once again, Kieron brings up the "do you know how much I've given up for you?" groaner, which is starting to piss me off a little. Since when is Kieron a shrill harpy?

We get another fun scene with Michaela (and the poor girl ... the voices have now moved inside her head), and a great mad scene with Steph, then we get back to John Paul, who's being read the riot act by Niall over his treatment of Kieron. And just let me state for the record that Damn ... Niall is hot as hell!

You can see the last clip after the break, and we're interested to hear your take on how the whole Craul situation is unfolding. Let us know in the comments!

The final clip opens with Darren and Craig discussing all the many people who've died since Craig left, as Taking Back Sunday Jr. sullenly looks on. Craig decides that he's just in the way, so he's leaving to go back to Dublin.

After more drama with Steph and Darren, we get back to Kieron and John Paul, and Kieron tells him point blank "If you don't want to marry me now, you never will," and when he asks, "it's over, isn't it?" J.P. doesn't answer him.

Craig sees his mother, and decides to stay, and we end with Michaela comforting a sobbing John Paul.

Well, I'm glad that they're not presenting Craig as an intentional homewrecker, but I still think the Kieron/J.P. breakup is too abrupt. Feel free to disagree with me (I know many of you do), but it just seems like they're changing Kieron's personality to make him more needy and less sympathetic. What do you think?

Beyond the love triangle angle there's Niall and JP...

The saddest thing for me of these last weeks (and the weeks ahead) and what's really breaking my heart is that Niall and JP will never get to be brothers.

It just doesn't bare thinking about yet I can't get past it.

Everything Niall's done has been about his anger and resentment over not getting to have a mom and a family that loved him and he so clearly actually cares about the McQueens (yes, even with all his hateful ways) and JP SOOOO needs a big brother and in an alternative universe Niall would be perfect (non homophobic, passionately loyal, smart, young, etc). IT'S SO SAD AND TRAGIC!!!

The moments with them are just gut wrenching!

It's horrible what's been planned for Kieron but really the person I'm feeling most for is NIALL.  I couldn't give two blinks about Myra I'm sorry to say.

I can't even decide if I want folks to know what he's done (yes, he's evil I know, but not purely so). The writers have added more depth and nuance and layers to Niall's character then they ever did with Kieron and its becoming harder to care about Kieron (what with his sudden character reconstruction).

But I know it's all gonna come out in the wash and Niall will have to either die or pay for his many evil deeds in prison.

    Heaviest of sighs...

I agree with you about Niall and JP, its a shame.

I agree with you about Niall and JP, its a shame.

I always hoped he would find a way to redeem himself, but after he is about to do, its not posible. Specially since we saw a different side of him when he was with Steph and Tom. Well, he was never meant to be nice.

Its a shame since Niall is pure evil hotness.

    I agree about Niall

I don't feel sorry for Myra, but it would have great to see how she would deal with an emotionally unstable son.  In fact, I would love to see Niall interacting with all his siblings.  I think that would have been a better storyline than the stunt filled explosive ending that they have planned for October.  As with Kieron, the writers picked sensationalism and high drama over telling a character driven narrative.

In agreement - this s/l resolution is way too abrupt

Although this triangle is not ending the way I would have liked, I can live with the show's need to end it this way. The presentation, however, is not being handled well at all. The light speed plot developments are clearly dictated by the limited time frame to use the actors, but the resulting character assassination is not pleasant to watch. Neither JP nor Kieran is coming off very well... Craig remains to be seen.

I hope that the fallout from what happens Friday won't make JP a completely unlikeable character. We will see.

It's a pity that such a wonderful s/l has be resolved in such an unappealing fashion.

Well, at least the SE fanatics will be happy. Me, not so much.

    kieron is

completely different, id never before got the sense that he resented jp for his leaving the church and he certainly wouldnt bring it up to emotionally blackmail him! which is what hes doing. "do you know what i gave up for you?"

i feel like this aparent breakup has been crow barred in but i dont understand why, its not like they didnt know this was coming, so i suspect something else is going on. but that might just be wishful thinking. although not necessarily for a jpk ending or a mcdean ending, just a well written one!

    Changes in Character Traits

I don't disagree with you at all and it's very telling that lots of viewers of this show (from 'average viewers' to 'obessives') have noticed that Kieron's become too damn demanding during this time. Like TPTB somehow HAD to make the traits of this character change, in order to make it seem like someone else has "matured".

btw - Jake Hendriks posted a note of "thanks" to all of his fans. He's such a great guy. http://jakehendriks.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=183&p=1240#p1240

you maybe should add, that those who are interested in joining that forum but aren't spoilered in any way (if they exist :D ) might better wait until they have seen tomorrows C4 episode or until snicks has posted it assumedly next monday (?)

Other than that it's definitely not only quite a pleasure to watch Jake Hendriks but also to read (as his messages on that board show). He has some very nice and slightly weird sense of humor.

    I agree and disagree

The worst part of this is how they are changing the character's personalities in order to force the story along, but I have to say that I think John Paul has gotten worse treatment than Kieron.  I don't see Kieron as needy or whiny, as much as he doesn't know how to handle the way that John Paul has been acting.  He didn't know what was wrong with him, but he knew if he pushed things, that he could push John Paul away.  We know that the Kieron of the last ten months would have just confronted John Paul and let the chips fall where they may.  He would have been more direct, and would have sat John Paul down to have a discussion.  On the other hand, we've seen the new John Paul pretty mus disregard his boyfriend's feelings, lie to him, and lash out at him.  We've seen him pouting around for a week, despite the fact that Kieron asked him several times if he wanted to end the engagement or wait on the wedding.  John Pual's behavior makes no sense at all.

    Oh, where to begin

Rushed it is. But what bothers me most, like other, is the abrupt way they have changed the characters to fit the story.

While it is completely logical for JP to have second thoughts about marriage, the total disregard for Kierons feelings just tops the cake. I know the one trait that all McQueens share is selfishness, but at least they are upfront about it. Its just cruel what hes doing to Kieron, lead him on. And probably just for the drama, as Myra said; I mean, hes been having second thought for week and the minute Myra says no he gets determined to do it no matter what. I really dont like how they are portraying JP trough this, he comes off very snicky here. BTW, I loved how Myra just ripped JP for what hes doing.

As for Kieron, I understand why he is acting the way he is. He is seeing JP slip away and he wants to hold on. He might feel desperate at times but he hasnt been needy and whiney, and so far his dignity is stil intact.

I dont think they are putting him against Craig, who is liking mighty fine and seems to have matured, a lot more than JP I might add. Still not loving the male nurse shoes though.

    I agree with you

Kieron was much more mature at the beginning and I know that love can do all sorts of strange things to people and can really change them, but I'm not convinced or liking this emotional blackmail ultimatum Kieron. He was a very caring priest not long ago!

What's worse is that TPTB are changing John Paul to fit everything into the rush with Craig's return and all. Granted, John Paul is no peacekeeper. As much as I love him, that boy has hurt people and caused shitstorms since the beginning: Hannah, Craig, Spike, Craig again, Sarah when she found out, Myra, Toby, and now Kieron. But he never seemed so careless in all of the hurt he caused as he's done to Kieron now. He always complained about "lying to yourself" to Craig after his experiences with Hannah and Craig, but it seems like he's lied to himself about his true feelings for Kieron, "forcing" himself to want to marry Kieron because of everything Kieron's given up for him. It just seems like a sudden personality graft, and I don't really like it...

    Kieron

I don't know if you've had a chance to see today's episode via youtube, but Kieron says something that will show just how nice he is; it is truly sweet and heartbreaking.  The writers decided to give him his personality back.

    Finally someone has realized

I've always liked Craig better than Keiron so I'm fine with the way things are headed. Things are progressing awfully fast which doesnt show the greatest writing skills but It's still better than the actual relationship itself which I couldnt stomach.

Meanwhile, finally someone else has realized that Michaela is the greatest thing about this show. Since BBC America's dropping of Hollyoaks this is the only place I can get my Michaela fix.

    Kieron....

Don't know what happened to my post but in case this turns out to be double, sorry.

I don't think it's an emotional blackmail. You know your boyfriend's acting strange and lying to you. Then bursts your bubble in being ever so insensitive the way he said he should be having fun out there instead of marrying you (could've been nicer, JP) then you see him hugging his ex with a guilty look on his face - is it really unfair to nag him about what you've given up for him? I could've punched JP and Craig if I were Kieron! Yet he still manages to talk calmly. If he nags about the church again, I can't blame him, but I prefer him to be angrier.

I think the ultimatum was meant to get JP to admit his lie. 2 seconds ago he said he still wants to marry him and now Kieron is calling him up on it. I wish K just talked straight up without resorting to stupid mind games. I expected more from him. But damn he looks so hot in that low-neck shirt.

    Craul..

Pure genius snicks. I love it :)

I had nothing substantial to add except that I'm suffering from pure JP-envy right now... two gorgeous dark haired hotties fightin' over me! Stuff of dreams I tell you. Would make a nice sandwich all three of them. Perhaps HO could use this idea for its next gay plot.

    He's Back!!!!

I've been away for a while and I come back and find the delectable Guy Burnet sporting the stubble of sexiness back on screen!!! Its like hannukah come early :)

I really liked JP and Craig's first meeting- the emotion, the awkwardness and the friendly banter- they both played it so well. Guy Burnet's subtle acting style is just so on point! I love this man.

This episode just reinforced how totally awesome Guy Burnet and James Sutton are together. HO struck a goldmine with this pairing. I can't wait to see how this all goes down. I'm spoiler free so looking forward to some HO surprises and maybe a fitting end????

Thank a lot Snicks for the updates!
