"Hollyoaks" video clip: The "Rub-a-dub-dub" update
Today's episode of Hollyoaks does what all great drama does: it leaves you wanting more. It takes characters we care about, and puts them in a position that, though implausible, is impossible not to get excited about. I'm not going to recap it, because there are ... surprises. But I will mention that John Paul and You can see today's Hollyoaks clip after the break, and go here for a preview of where things pick up next week (thanks to reader dkellergrl2001 for the heads up about the preview). hollyoaks, continuity, characterization
What I appreciate about British soaps, well Hollyoaks anyway, is that there is an effort at continuity. John Paul developed a bit of a friendship with Eliot around September and October and, while they still don't develop platonic relationships in great detail, it's nice to see the friendship acknowleged.
For those who are new to Hollyoaks, you can catch JP's enitre backstory on youtube. That will add another perspective on why getting caught by Niall is so dangerous. It seems that Niall has a secret long-standing grudge against the McQueen family and is something of a psychopath.
It makes no sense...
their getting together was quick both times
It was easy to miss them getting together, if you missed a clip in between The first time JP and Kieron got together, it was after they had agreed to avoid each other, because they did not want to give in to their mutual attraction. But JP got jealous when Kieron ignored him in public, and then they had an emotional discussion, which led to their first time going to bed together.
They broke up for a while after that. The second time they got together, Kieron came over to visit for some other reason. John Paul gathered the courage to admit he still had feelings for Kieron. They kissed and it looked like all would be well, until JP said something that upset Kieron. They got together properly after JP went to the confession box but confessed his feelings, instead of an actual confession. AE has the clip for this segment: http://www.afterelton.com/blog/dennis/Hollyoaks-video-clip-update-05-08-08
For earlier scenes, there are a few channels on youtube that have JP related clips.
Ohhhh
Niall is Myra's son
Love that Kieron and JP are communicating w/each other
One of the things that I love about this storyline AND this pairing, is the fact that they actually TALK to each other, about their feelings for one another. They don't let things wait (for too long) and they admit the problems and risks in pursuing a relationship together, but it doesn't matter. They want to be together and they're not going to continuing on lying to each about those feelings.
They have also talked about their feelings with other people (Niall, Steph and Kris), so that's another added plus. Yes, Niall's definitely the wrong person to be honest with this secret, but Kieron and John-Paul do not know how much of a sick puppy he truly is at the moment.
OMG! Sh*t's gonna hit the fan in Hollyoaks now!
Hahaha, the sh*t's definitely hitting the fan now! Wow, cannot wait until next week!
oh snap...
craaaazaayyyy.
Btw, I hope they don't keep putting JP in all these secret relationships. it's starting to get old.
Don't like them together

Liz...that's one of the main reasons I was quite annoyed that the writers of HollyOaks decided to put John Paul right back into another secret relationship, and with a Priest of all people. He just walked away from Craig for this very reason, and then jumps head first back into another secret relationshp. I was really hoping the writers would have John Paul's relationship with Craig be a maturing of his character. But now 18 year old John Paul has taken a giant step backward and jumped into a sexual relationship with a 30 year old man of the cloth.
I also think they look quite odd together and I just don't see the chemistry between the actors. I admit to being a huge John Paul/Craig Dean fan, but that hasn't coloured my vision of what i'm now seeing. I really didn't want the same old angst from John Paul. And from the spoilers i've read, even more grief for him than his split for Craig is coming down the line. It is going to be devastating. Why does John Paul have to suffer so?!
But isn't that what soaps are about?
Practically every character on a soap opera is keeping a secret from another character(s), it's how they work. Of course, they could do something different, for example, have JP get involved with another openly gay man, so that the relationship isn't a secret, but that character DOES have some secret he's keeping from JP (an addiction, a pron past, whatever) and which somebody else knows and holds over him.

Very sweet. Interesting choice of action. I cant believe we have to wait till next week.
Kris is probably my favorite character
Kris has become one of my favorite characters. He can be arrogant and he has a tendancy to snarkiness, but he's also one of the most emotionally mature people in the younger crowd. He seems to have a good grasp on common sense. I know too much common sense is not good for soaps, but it's nice to see at least one person who has some. I bet Kris wouldn't have let himself be jerked around by Craig Dean, the way poor, earnest, love-struck John Paul did.
There was quite a while
There was quite a while when I didn't like Kris, either, but I've been loving him lately. He's so damned funny, and he completely won me over with his support of Elliot.
i'm glad hollyoaks is
i'm glad hollyoaks is getting attention again here. i've been addicted since last year and it felt like it was just a guilty pleasure until it it popped up here again a couple of weeks ago!
it's good to see jp and keiron's story is as melodramatic and their characters are as flawed/screwed up as any other soap storyline around!
John Paul and Kieron still subject to soap stupidity
While I love John Paul and Kieron together (and think that James and Jake have wonderful chemisty) I also hate that JP is once again in another secret "forbidden love" relationship. How's that for cross pollinating the gay soaps!
And while it's great to see them indicating (not actually showing) a sexual relationship, the subsequent day's show demonstrates they can be just as irritating as Luke and Noah. I mean really, blurting out to Mercedes of all people that they are screwing and to have Kieron respond "Don't ever touch me again"? WTF? Overreacting much, Kieron? You were just as much of part of the illicit shagging as JP.
