"Hollyoaks" video clip update: You can take the man out of the collar...
Today's Hollyoaks clip opens with Kieron deciding to pay a visit to grieving bride/widow Steph, against the advice of John Paul. Kieron is by nature a compassionate person, and even though he's not wearing the collar anymore, he still feels a desire to tend to people in need. When Steph opens the door to let Kieron in, the poor girl looks like she's on her way to pose for a Hole album, and is still in shock over the sudden, brutal death of Max. She refuses to take off the wedding dress, and Kieron tries to counsel her, but being without the collar is like Batman without his utility belt, and he leaves Sam to console Steph. J.P. is coming out of the shower when there's a knock at the door. (What is it with him and showers? His mother caught him in a towel, too. Not that I'm complaining.) When he answers the door, it turns out to be Father No-Nookie, who tries to convince J.P. that he's too young to understand Kieron's commitment to the church. Kieron comes home, and tells the man in no uncertain terms that if he has to choose, he chooses John Paul. They share a tender moment together, but it all has taken on a very bittersweet tone now that we all know that James Sutton is leaving the show. Is it just me, or is anyone else looking at them differently now that there may be an expiration date to their relationship? After the break, you can see today's clip, and come back for more Hollyoaks updates. Submitted by on Tue, 2008-07-01 11:33. |

i have followed the love
Jane Tennison!
Love the screen name! Prime Suspect is one of my all time favorite series.
What i really want is for J.P. to leave happy. there have been too many unpleasant send-offs.
Will he pick Craig?
We don't really know. I want JP to have a happy ending. Watching about two years, I see the show will happily kill characters off. Sometimes it happens in shocking ways. I knew Max was leaving but assumed his heart problems would take him.
I don't know if JP should pick Craig. He's grown so much with Kieron compared to where he was with Craig a year ago. That we've seen, since the airport departure scene, he hasn't had any meaningful contact with Craig only a couple of text messages. There's just three months, at most, before he exits so there's a lot of groundwork to lay if he is going off with Craig.
I'd be happy to see JP leave HO with Kieron as hinted at a few episodes ago. On the other hand rumors have been all over the place. He could leave with be Craig, Kieron, or even no one. It's not even certain he survives his exit.
It's a great story and a damn shame US tv can't rise to this level of drama or quality gay storylines. And, perhaps most embarrassing, is this show is "only" a soap. NUKE has nothing on JP.
'The best gay love story
'The best gay love story ever displayed on tv'... I think I may have to agree with you there jane tennison (I love Prime Suspect btw! ) For me what convinces me that John Paul= Craig was the last couple of weeks before Craig left. Craig yelling out to his mum who wanted him with Sarah, 'Nooooo! I love John -Paul'; he also turned down Sarah twice and most heart-breaking of all at the airport where his last words were 'Don't leave me.... John Paul'.
I have no doubt in my mind that Craig will come back fully comfortable with his sexuality ( which I suspect may be bisexual), still in love with John Paul and ready to give their relationship a second chance. I think John Paul's still in love with Craig and as much as I like Kieron.... I'm backing Craig on this one.
It might have been
It might have been left-over emotion from Max's death, but I actually teared up when I heard that James was leaving the show. *sniff*
I've been viewing John Paul/Kieron as a relationship with an expiration date ever since it was announced that Craig would be returning, and I heartily agree that it makes everything bittersweet. I wish we'd been giving more caring, couple-y scenes between John Paul and Kieron before the drama of the reveal, but maybe they'll give us some before the next big dust-up.
I kept expecting...
...Kieron to mention Miss Havisham to Steph! I mean, how Dickensian of her!

Sam? Oh, OB! After a
Sam?
Oh, OB! After a decade, I still forget OB's real name is Sam.
I just don't like "O-B"
Strong Character
This clip displays what I like about John Paul and James' portrayal, he doesn"t shy away from an argument and defends himself. Love the line when he tells the older Priest that he loves Keiron as a man and a Priest and it's "your rules" that won't allow him to be both. Keiron is a very sympathetic character and I like Jake in the role. Keiron's line that going to help Steph was an act of human compassion and not just Priestly duty was also strong. Taken in the world of soaps, these are positive and uplifting gay characters.
Really gonna miss JP / James.
Max's Death
is just simply terrible. I was watching these clips on Youtube last week and was practically crying when it happened! Max and OB have been two of my favorite charachters and to see Max die in OB's arms was just so sad for me.
I really hope Tom is taken in by OB. I can't see Steph taking Tom in, and I like Tony, but I think OB has a better relationship with Tom.
Emotional Wreck--->
I definitely am looking at them differently now that I know James is leaving. I knew there was going to be some crazy stuff coming with Craig returning and all but, I still thought I would have some John Paul in my life. I'm trying not to look at every clip thinking about all the possibilities fo things going wrong.
I'm basically just trying to enjoy every clip I can get and trying no to think about September.
Another moving episode, and
Another moving episode, and with regard to Kieron/John Paul especially at the end, where we get to see some of the turmoil that Kieron must be going through in his head. I agree with poster above that loved JP's line to Father Raymond "your rules, not mine" and the other hints at celibacy being one of the worst ideas the Catholic Church ever had. Was also glad to see that Father Raymond did not go the homophobic route, at least he seemed to respect that element of the relationship.
Hard not to be reminded of all the things that could go wrong - with the priest hinting at it (how typically soap), but some genuine affection, realistic dialogue and brilliant acting. The hug at the end is indeed one of the most intimate moments between these two men.
Next episode is already up - in three parts:

Enjoy!
You Know.....
Pretty sad, isn't it?
A character who beat John Paul bloody, who threw homophobic slurs at him, who slept with his girlfriend and even planned to marry her all while keeping John Paul on the side, is supposed to be John Paul's soulmate, the one we're supposed to see as the only ideal.
Meanwhile, a character who cherishes John Paul, a kind soul who tries to help people, is supposed to just be an obstacle, a bump in the road. And not only will he not get his "Sunset Ending", but according to rumors that have been around for a while, he may end up leaving in a body bag.
What a message this gives viewers.
Pretty darned inspiring
Well Craig is also the same character who apologised for his outbursts, who fell in love with John Paul, gave up his 'normal' life and beautiful model fiancee, went against his mothers wishes and chose JP.
Granted Craig was flawed, but as a soap character I think he showed real growth and coming to terms with his feelings for another man and above all who followed his heart. He basically turned 360 degrees around and for me shows that people are redeemable. I'll admit that I didn't get Craig at first, then he grew on me and I now view him as an iconic soap character- not perfect in any sense but very, very human.
Oh yeah and John Paul loves him. Thats the message it sends to this viewer- true love wins out in the end.
Spot on Vague! I think John
Spot on Vague! I think John Paul's relationship with Father Kieron is the 'safe' option for him- all he really wants is to be loved.... his conversation with Hannah a few months earlier- " Nobody's ever going to be Craig". Translation: 'No one is ever going to take Craig's place in my heart'. Hopefully Criag will come back confident and ready to give John Paul the love he's been searching for. Second time around may be lucky for these boys. God knows they deserve some happy!
