IMHO "The 7th Annual TV Land Awards": Was that real, or was I Pufnstuff?

The Seventh Annual TV Land Awards aired last night on ... well, TV Land, and it was a gay couch potato's dream come true. It had a thirtieth anniversary tribute to the classic nighttime soap Knots Landing (and a warmly received marriage equality shout-out by the show's creator David Jacobs), a typically adept hosting job by Neil Patrick Harris (whose Twilight Zone-ish opening musical number can be seen here), and a tribute to Sid & Marty Krofft that ranks as the greatest ten minutes of TV since Andra's freak-out on Boy Meets Boy.

Unfortunately, it also featured some "meh" moments. There were tributes to a couple of shows I never watched (Home Improvement, Magnum P.I.) and the inexplicable tribute to Two and a Half Men as a "Future Classic".

But all in all it was a great night, and we've got some of the highlights to scorch your senses ...

All grown up: Home Improvement kids Zachary Ty Bryan, Taran Noah Smith, Jonathan Taylor Thomas. *Actually, I've just been informed that the last man pictured may not be Jonathan Taylor Thomas (All Pics: Getty)

Fabulous Married With Children stars Christina Applegate, Katey Sagal. *Is the cinematographer from RuPaul's Drag Race filming Katey?

Married With Children star Ted McGinley receives an award, causing sharks all over the world to jump in spastic unison. *My undying love to whomever gets that reference.

Teri Hatcher. Oh Dear.

Donna Mills, Michelle Phillips, and Michele Lee with Knots Landing creator David Jacobs. *Mr. Jacobs got a huge round of applause when he quipped "If I did it again now the only difference is I would have a new married couple on the left side named Jeff & Peter and a new married couple on the right named Molly & Maria".

And now we come to the fever dream portion of the program. The absolute highlight of the show was the ten-minute tribute to 70's gods Sid & Marty Krofft.

I found myself overcome with waves of nostalgia (which at first I thought were the after-effects of the vending machine burrito I ate) as various Krofft shows were recreated on stage.

Watching Cyndi Lauper and Barry Williams perform the themes to Electra-Woman & Dynagirl and Lidsville brought me back to those Saturday mornings when I would sit in front of the TV in my Underoos and spend hours with the Krofft brothers. Here's Cyndi backstage with Sid & Marty.

As wonderful as this tribute was, I was a little bummed that they didn't include my favorite Krofft show, Bigfoot & Wild Boy, but you can't have everything.

If you want to experience this tribute for yourself, you can see it in its entirety here, but be prepared to be transported back to a more innocent time.

So who else watched the TV Land Awards this year, and what did you think? And who do you think should be honored next year? I'm pulling for tributes to Isis and Charlotte Rae.

    MASH

i seriously only tuned in for the MASH tribute. i guess that makes me really freaking lame. (it's a damn good show, ok?)

Neil did a great job hosting....and um....someone needs to explain the whole pyschadelic performance thing because i have no idea what it was for. i didn't know any of the songs.

    hmm...

does the ted Mcginley + sharks reference have anything to do with happy days and how that was a sign that the show is going downhill?

LOL!  Poor Ted McGinley.  No matter what he does, for the rest of his life, he'll always be remembered for "killing" Happy Days.  The TG curse!!

Because of conflicts with other programs, I didn't get to see the awards show yet, so i can't really comment.  It looks like a fun show though.  I believe the DVR will be recording it today at 4PM.  I mainly want to see the Knots Landing reunion, and Cyndi!!!

The man on the right side of the pic is Richard Karn (aka Al Borland). Here's a shot of Jonathan Taylor Thomas:

    I was being snarky

i don't think anyone thought that was really JTT. I thought it was interesting that JTT was the only castmember who did not show up for the reunion, though. Hmm ....

    Happy days and underoos

OK, so I got the Happy Days reference, and poor Ted could easily be marked the same for Married...with Children.  Plus thoughts of you in Underoos (they make designer adult ones now, so it's not creepy) gave me all the wrong sort of thoughts, snicks.

So based on that, let's run off and get gay married in Iowa, OK?

    ADULT UNDEROOS

Do you think i could still get away with wrapping a bath towel around my neck as a cape and running down the street?

    Depends

I think that depends entirely on the neighborhood.  I'd say in WeHo, the Village, Miami Beach, Boystown, or my street, you'd totally be a hit.  In front of the Kansas state house, maybe less so.

OK, fess up - you had that picture handy, because you totally sleep in Underoos every night, right?  You're wearing the Batman ones right now, aren't you?

I Really AM Wonder Woman, You Know

Talk of Adult Underoos excites me, because as a child I had a pair of WW 'roos.  I truly believed that I was her, and would not remove them except (reluctantly) to have my mother wash them.  I would lie naked in a blanket on my bed until my "uniform" was ready to don once again.  To this day, my siblings ask me if I still have them on.

    MINE!!!

    IF ONLY!!!!!!

    Bigfoot & Wildboy

Oh yes! Bigfoot and Wildboy was my fav Kroft show. Wildboy was my 1st crush!

    Krofft

Weren't Bigfoot and Wildboy the act that drove Electrawoman and Dynagirl out of the rotation?  Or was it Dr. Shrinker?  Either way, I preferred the show they displaced, and I never quite forgave them for that.  (I still watched their short-lived spinoff, though.)

Still, how anyone could have anything other than Land of the Lost as their favorite Krofft show totally eludes me.  The first season was actually good in a non-campy way!  (It was campy too, of course, it just also had a non-campy level of actual storytelling.)

Did you all notice Ed (two comments above) is wearing HEE HAW overalls in his photo!!! how great is that!

I love the Krofft bros.  My entire personality was formed by them.

    Long live Witchiepoo!

    The Shark Reference...

I totally get the shark jumping reference, and created an account just so that I could receive your undying love.  That was hilarious, as was your entire blog!  Why was Jonathan Taylor Thomas missing?  Anyone know?  Did I miss out on some falling out amongst him and his former castmates?

This was the best picture I could find. Fonzie Shark Jump
