IMHO "True Blood" (2.4): Shake and fingerpop

Somehow, HBO's True Blood continues to top itself each week, and this episode is no exception (but memo to the network: no more "marathons" after just three episodes!).

Join us below for the top ten reasons why this episode earns another big up arrow!

10. - Jason has officially become the master of malapropism. Best line of the night: "Evil is making the pre-medicated choice to be a dick!". He's like a hot, shirtless Norm Crosby.

9. - The holy pancake breakfast the morning after Jason is the victim of a practical joke is hilarious, with a table full of brainless-but-gorgeous hunks discussing "who was the first vampire?" Best exchange of the night:

Nathon Fillion-esque Roommate - "One thing you can count on ... God will make sure evil gets punished!"

Jason - "Then explain Europe to me!"

8. - Jason spends the day with Sarah and Steve, which thanks to Jason's inner-horndog turns into a Playboy's Pious Preacher Girls Of The Bayou softcore video. Steve also reveals another vampire tidbit I wasn't aware of: If you shoot a vampire with a wooden bullet, it's like staking him in the heart. Hmm ... fascinating, but I guess it makes sense.

7. - Lafayette and Tara have a great scene together where she reads him the riot act for not telling her that he was back. Their familial affection for each other is very realistic, but I think I'll pass on calling any of my cousins "hooker".

6. - Lafayette and Eric have an ... interesting ... scene, with the vampire offering to help him heal from his gunshot. After Lafayette feeds on Eric, he's back to his old freak-dancing ways ... but what was Eric's true motive in saving him? Hmm ...

5. Tara moves back in with Sookie, but Maryann isn't going to let her go without a fight. She shows up at Sookie's house with a birthday cake for Tara, and that night throws the greatest combination sploshing & geophagy party ever known. In the midst of the revelry, Maryann disappears into the woods, and after she does that shimmering shake thing, her hands turn into claws. Claws with three talons. A-ha!

4. - Hoyt and Jessica are pulled apart by Bill before they can do anything, but I hope they continue this relationship, which is sweet and hot, with just a touch of menace. I love how Hoyt always refers to Bill as "Vampire Bill" (like that's his name), and I loved Jessica's embarrassment when she realized her fangs were still showing. How many of us who were teen boys can relate to that?

3. - Sookie and Bill head to Dallas to help Eric find Godrick, but Sookie convinces Bill to take Jessica with them (and I love how Bill says "I'll have to call the airline and make arrangements for a second travel coffin". Ha!) And there's another hilarious scene later when Jessica can't get out of her "travel coffin".

2. - At the vampire hotel (which is named Hotel Carmilla), Sookie scans through the adult TV listings (which includes the inevitable title His First Fangbang) while Jessica receives a special room service order - Travis, described by concierge Barry as "male, straight, b-negative". Jessica leads him away, as Sookie looks concerned about the guy's age, but Barry reassures her that the guy is legal. Unfortunately for Barry, she now knows that he just read her mind, and after they have a mutual telepathic realization, he runs away, with Sookie in fast pursuit.

1. - That love scene with Tara and Eggs. Wow! Just ... wow.

Another stellar episode that answers some questions while setting up even more for the future. What did you think of this week's outing?

Btw, is it just me, or are they making the vampires look a lot more ghoulish than last season? Last year it was hard to tell that Bill was a vampire, but this season it seems like that they're slathering on the "living dead" makeup. Or maybe it's that I'm watching it for the first time in HD?

    I know it's hot in

I know it's hot in Louisiana, but if I had just escaped from a vampire dungeon, I'd most definately keep my windows closed and sweat it out.  Jeez, Lafayette, I'm anxious for some Eric/'Fayette turning action, but, to paraphrase, 'hookah please.'

Jessica is quickly becoming my favorite character...when she made Leon yell out church-y obsceneties in the hotel lobby I lost it.

I just know Andy is going to figure it all out; unfortunately his scotch-and-soda habit is too well know and he will continue to be True Blood's Cassandra-character.

Two things that are causing me to lose sleep:
-WTF is Maryann and why isn't she concerned about Sam exposing her for what she really is?
-Daphne--what is her deal?  Also, can I get some sweet potato pancakes?

    Have been wondering

I have been wondering what Maryann is the whole time, and I think she could be some sort of succubus, or a spin off of a succubus. She basically causes a sex party, or physical pleasure party and she feeds off of this, much like a succubus feeds of relations with a man. I have seen images of succubi that have claws and horns which is why I think it could be, and the fact that she throws sex parties.

It's just a guess though, I really would like an explanation as to what she is.

    I agree, Snicks

This show keeps getting better and better. I can't think of anything I would change about it.

I am not sure who is funnier, Jessica or Jason, but I nearly blew water out of my nose watching Jessica trying to get out of that coffin.

    Hit IT AGAIN ....

O my my my-it's amazing how True Blood is able to top it' self week after week -from the soft porn bbq-and Jesus scene with Jason and Sara and Steve to the b'day party for Tara , to Eric and Lafayette -HIT IT AGAIN -to room service (STR8 and B-) at the vamp Hotel Carmilla --( thanks Snicks for the literary reference-I'd have never known that one) True Blood continues to delight and amaze - my absolute FAV on TV. O and the MUSIC -all just perfect
I was hooked in the opening credits in the first episode.

    Loved it

Jessica is my favorite character. I love how she's a total teenager, like the "I'm on the phone line" and playing around with the guy she was mesmerizing. Oh, and having a guy delivered to the room, that was great.

I love Eric, and the scene where he shows up a Lafayette's window was great, especially when he told Layfayette he liked him. Eric is so the hottest guy on the show, he and Layfayette together would be interesting.

Oh, and it would be so ironic if Jason hooked up with the preachers wife if you've seen the anti vampire marriage comericials on the fellowship of the sun website where they toute the holiness of thier marriage, nothing like a litle adultry to make that add hilarious.

    Picture Perfect

Love the show. I wonder why it was so important for Maryann to get rid of the birthday present that Tara's mother gave Sam to deliver? This is one great show with quite a lot of characters I care for.

    Plotholes in this one...

How come Sookie can drink Bill's blood, regardless of whether she's injured or not, and not get high, yet Lafayatte immediately starting jumping around like a drugged-up freak?  Also, last season, Eddie couldn't glamour Jason and Amy, and said that it takes years for vampires to learn how to glamour someone, yet Jessica did it right away.

Maybe it has to do with how

Maybe it has to do with how strong the vampire that turned you is. Like Jessica was turned by bill, who's blood would be fairly strong because he's over a hundred years old, and hasn't turned anyone else. Eddie might have been turned by a very young vampire. Eddie might just have not been very talented or had no one to train him, sense he just payed someone to turn him.

He took a pill right before

He took a pill right before he drunk the blood. Remember how they said it affects the way you take it.

I love True Blood to pieces,

I love True Blood to pieces, and the revel at Sookie's house gave me chills. Spring break's got nothing on Baccus/Dionysus. And although "His First Fangbang" was funny I got the real kick out of "Intercourse with a Vampire."

    True Blood

I'm gonna disagree as to this episode being the best so far. I found it a bit boring.... Straight sex scenes do nothing for me!. I'm gay not straight. Maryann's transformation and the final scene with Barry were the only things I found interesting. The Soldiers of the Sun (SOTS) ... boring.

All in all I'd say I'd give it a 7.

    Brilliant

This show continues to have amazing characters that are developed as more and more brilliant with each episode. I love the Sookie/Bill/Jessica angle, they're like a dysfunctional all american family hah. Lafayette/Eric is a bit obvious, but it's going somewhere quite unexpected at the same time, it's like the hostage and his assailant hah. As for Maryann, I think she isn't bothered because she doesn't care? Also, for those of you who were wondering (and apparently missed the reveal) Maryann is a maened, and she's the creature that attacked Mama Jeanette, Sookie, and apparently Daphne (who continues to intrigue me) at some point.

Arlene is hardly ever present but I love her when she is, and I want her as a regular! I also love Lettie-Mae, and I want her to reconcile at some point with Tara, because she's so lovable since the exorcism (:

    Brilliant episode as always.
