Introducing "Branry", the new "As the World Turns" bromance

You As The World Turns followers (the few of you left) can have your Nuke (Luke and Noah) or your Cake (Luke and Casey) ... but for me, the hot couple in Oakdale are Brad (aka Austin From Days) and Henry (aka Henry). As played by the chiseled, hulking Austin Peck and adorable Trent Dawson, they are a true Odd Couple, with a definite Felix and Oscar vibe to them.

After the break, you can see a clip from Monday's episode, which uses Brad, a hilariously over the top italian tailor (who actually says "Your friend, he is a huge!), and gay panic to great effect. I guess the chosen few of us still watching will have to find some way to entertain ourselves until Luke and Noah send the plot device packing.

Big thanks to Brock for the heads up!

    it seems intentional

Any henry/brad subtext seems intentional by the writers. There was an episode a while ago where Brad and Henry woke up in bed next to each other. It was played for laughs, but some fans were offended by one line where one of them said to the other "there's no need to start questioning your manhood," in reference to whether anything sexual had happened between them. (Obviously, nothing had.)

Personally, my own take on the show is that Henry is not entirely straight (even though his relationship with Vienna is sweet and very real). But the friendship with Brad is definitely more bromantic than romantic, because, frankly, Henry is out of Brad's league. There are a couple of cute youtube videos available which seem to think otherwise, however.

    Cake

is already taken an a couple name. Remember Blake Lewis and Chris Richardson from American Idol? Yeah. Turns out they have a fandom.

As much as I don't really

As much as I don't really think that the writing on the show is really all that high-caliber, from watching the Nuke story-line, and the handling of other scenes like this one, I get the feeling that the writers are doing their best to let the audience know that they understand their frustration and are frustrated with TPTB as well. After that meat-sub scene it became pretty clear that the writers want to get to some action as well, but can't. And the Brad/Henry scenes seem to comment on how pathetic the heterosexual male gay-panic thing is, telling those uncomfortable with the subject matter to get over themselves.

Maybe I give them too much credit, but we are talking about a bunch of New York Soap Opera writers here, even if they are writing for middle America

I REALLY HATE THE NAME COMBO THING...

With the exception of Filliam H. Muffman I really wish this annoying media tendency would end.

Henry has always had a thing for Katie's men....

Long-term fans may remember how Henry used to moon over both Simon and Mike quite openly. My take on Henry is that he was supposed to be sexually ambiguous when he first arrived as the show used to provide some truly funny moments in which he was busted "admiring" Katie's men in such a way that could be interpreted as open lust or almost breaking the 4th wall in awe of their looks/manly-man ways.

I enjoyed it as it was never mean-spirited and always had Henry either coming to the rescue or forced to participate in fun investigative work that more often than not had him in Lakeview maid drag.

While there is a lot that I like about him and Vienna, as neither could have remained on the show if the writers had not concocted their relationship, her arrival curbed some of this fun that we are now seeing his character have with Brad. I want to see more of these two and I would not be surprised if new-Mike starts getting in on the fun. Even uptight fans who might be so shocked at seeing Nuke share a kiss, have to enjoy the comedic edge that this show had been missing for so long. I would not be too surprised to see both of their portrayers getting Daytime Emmy nods this year. If I am not mistaken, Henry's portrayer may have gotten a nod last year.

I am so happy to see the Henry I know front and center again as he is not a traditional leading man, but has won so many hearts that the writers are finding ways to do more with him than have sex with Vienna. If daytime ever decides to have a true bisexual character on the canvas, Henry would be perfect!

    Did anyone catch that shirt

Did anyone catch that shirt Henry was wearing today (Wednesday)? Even Carson Kressley would have pegged it as too gay for Oakdale. I always get the feeling that the guy playing Henry is channeling Paul Lynde -- it's especially strong when he's in bed with that strange dark-haired woman (I don't get that at all!).

    Luke and Casey are adorable...

Noah, even, in a rather standoff-ish way.

But I must admit, I'd marry Henry tomorrow.  I even think the official drink at our wedding would be the Martini!

    Everyone raise their glasses!

    Turn Casey gay... Puleeze!

As if there was any saving this castrated Nuke, it would be more to my liking and the hundreds of other posts that Pineapple Princess Luke would be way more enjoyable being teamed up with Cassandra Casey than Cardboard Noah. Not that anything sexual or any more kisses would EVER be shown, but it would be better all the way around. And could it really get any worse? Doubtful...

Cardboard just simply isn't gaining any points with this stupid Ameera crap. He is more willing to protect her over his affection (?) for Pineapple. I still think his early bisexual tendencies haven't really been completely dissolved. His scenes with his sham wife show him really enjoying being the married man. Point in question; her having his breakfast ready ala Denny's and sleeping shirtless in the same bed.

Supposedly from spoilers, Pineapple really gets pissed tomorrow and walks. Instead of walking, he needs to break the four minute mile getting away from these two. That remains to be seen. Pineapple should have done that when Cardboard first suggested the sham marriage.

I enjoy descriptive names as much as the next person

but Pineapple Princess?  Cassandra?  Cardboard?  LOL  It's easier to type their 'real' names than all the adjectives you use!  LOL

    Put me on the "Cake"

Put me on the "Cake" bandwagon. The whole Noah/Ameera prank got tired five minutes after it began.

    Not so...

Actually it isn't any slower than typing their real names. From most of the feedback I get, these humeous monikers makes this dismal soap somewhat more tolerable.

     BTW... they're not adjectives.

    From personal experience ...

I wouldn't advise going so far as to nickname a character The Girl Who Reminds Me of Haley Joel Osment and then expect yourself to liveblog with any degree of speed. Thank heaven the character left the show - she was giving me carpal tunnel!
