It's officially official: T.R. Knight is officially off "Grey's Anatomy"
In what may be the most redundant news since Adam Lambert's big announcement, gay reporter sprite Michael Ausiello has confirmed what most people have been speculating: out actor T.R. Knight will not be returning to the role of George on ABC's Grey's Anatomy. Sources confirm to me exclusively that T.R. Knight's wish to be released from his contract has been granted. The official decision, I'm told, came down in the past few days, just as many of his castmates began receiving their formal pickup letters from ABC. So where will T.R. go from here? According to Ausiello, the Great White Way beckons: What will Knight do now? Per an insider, the theatrically-trained thesp is in talks to start 2010 by headlining a Broadway revival of Lend Me a Tenor, the classic farce he recently did a reading of with Alfred Molina, Tony Shalhoub, and Marian Seldes. So now that it's "official", what do you Grey's fans think of the decision, and what do you think this will mean for T.R.'s career? Submitted by on Wed, 2009-06-17 16:44. |

. . .
Reviving "Lend Me a Tenor"?
I wish him all the best
This was the longest
This was the longest departure since Cher's "Farewell" tour.
I heard he quit because he thought playing "straight" would ruin his career... Wait I think I've got that mixed up somehow?
He's no Neil Patrick Harris
Well they are totally different
The only common things I can think of between these two are: They are both openly gay actors playing/played straight characters on hit TV shows, they both have done some theater work and they are of the same age.
And it`s not like TR didn`t have a career before Grey. He was in the 2001 revival of Noises Off(which was nominated for Tonys) and he received a Drama Desk Award nomination in 2003(among Philip Seymour Hoffman & Denis O'Hare no less). Yes he might not be this famous and made this kind of amount again, but I don`t think he necessarily cares.
I love him but...
I'm not sure how I should react. I mean, I'm happy he's moving on from that dead-in-the-water show, but onto a Broadway revival? Maybe that's a good thing, but I would have liked to see him in maybe a major primetime pilot or a good supporting role in a romantic comedy? (I'm personally rooting for a sex tape :P) Either way, this was drawn out almost as long as Glambert's coming out... almost.

Chuckles!
Well
I know quite a few stars did the same as TR, went to do theater stuff for a change(and a break) after a hit TV show, and maybe come back at some future point. Like Eric McCormack(Will & Grace),etc. Even if he want to score for a pilot or a movie, he need to wait until 2010 or 2011 since usually this kind of stuff plans way ahead before actually shooting. Also like I said he started as an theater actor, it seems natural for him to want to go back.
Edit:I just found out TR actually started pretty young. According to IMDb: "His first role was as a five year old when he played Tiny Tim in the Guthrie Theater's annual production of A Christmas Carol." So there you go,another similarity between him & NPH.Although he obviously wasn`t as successful as NPH back then as a child actor.
Oh
Damn them!!!
