John Barrowman hopes "Tonight's The Night" with his new TV hosting gig

The ubiquitous John Barrowman will continue his nefarious plot to conquer all media with his new hosting job.

Tonight's The Night is a six-part show on BBC1 that will allow amateur singers to live out their fantasies:

"Each show will see members of the public take to the stage to fulfill a performing wish, whether this is singing with a pop group or with the cast of a hit West End musical."

The show (which will also include celebrity appearances and performances) sounds like a cross between Top of The Pops, Star Search, and Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour (with a little bit of Queen For A Day thrown in).

Could probably use a giant gong, though ... or at least Sandman Sims.

And John should be careful about stretching himself too thin. It's great to have his face out there constantly, but it's just one small step from Celebrity Ding-Dong to late-night infomercials for male enhancement products.

    geez...

john must have more energy than most people. he seems to 'do it all' - hopefully he takes time out for himself. would hate him to have a nervous breakdown or something from overdoing it.

    The BBC does this...

The BBC has a 'stable' of presenters the put in for Saturday night prime time. The other one they use a lot is Graham Norton. Sometimes, they put the two of them in the same programme! So Barrowman isn't being overstretched at the moment, he's just following an established path that other entertainers have gone down (and had long careers). Having said that, the show he's doing sounds godawful dreadful.
