Keith Olbermann on Miss California, "Joe the Plumber", and conservative family values
Above you can see Keith Olbermann's number one story on Countdown last night, as he skewers both Carrie "Miss California" Prejean (who may not be Miss California for long), and Sam "Joe the Plumber" Wurzelbacher (who was never really a plumber). The interesting thing about the clip is that Keith actually starts off on the side of the pageant loser, defending her against the attacks on her character since the semi-nude photos of her surfaced. Until he brings in Princeton Professor Melissa Harris-Lacewell, who delivers a fairly brilliant counterpoint that causes Keith to change his assessment. As for Joe, his statement "I've had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn't have them anywhere near my children" worries me. When I was a child, I too had imaginary "gay friends", but I eventually grew out of it. Submitted by on Wed, 2009-05-06 16:11. |

not surprised....
eh, a few nights ago or whatever, Anderson Cooper couldn't understand why Miss. Ca's implants were such a big deal.
basically, i'm not surprised. for some reason, one story is going around. carrie says beliefs. we all attack her. end of.
many of us know very well other things she said besides "i think marriage is between a man and a woman"
i'm just trying to figure out why it seems we know more about her beliefs than the freaking news media. do they not dig further into details anymore? or do they choose not to report on what they found? it's annoying and so if keith or anderson or whoever don't get it, i think that is the reason.
I too...
Had she not put herself on
Had she not put herself on the cross, so to speak, I would be right there with you.
However, she did. She set herself up as a bastion of Christian morality, and now anything that can show she lives in a house of glass is fair game.
Plus, beyond that, it shows she's a Lying Liar From Liarsville. She specifically told the pageant she NEVER posed for pics like that. Then she said she was 17 and naive at the time. Oops, then she said "Okay, I wasn't 17" because she got caught in THAT lie.
She created this situation, and now she's suffering the consequences and attempting to make herself into a martyr.
Schadenfreude.
I would imagine
she's being attacked for being hypocritical. She's using religion and the bible as a reason for opposing civil rights for a group of people, and yet she has no problem ignoring that same bible and religion's pretty strongly espoused views on modesty and flaunting your sexuality as long as it benefits her.
So not only is she picking and choosing what she wants to out of the bible to adhere to, but she's putting the love of money before the love of her fellow man.
Besides, saint or sinner, if nude or risque stuff gets out, you have to deal with a lot of shit. She's not special in that sense, She can ask Miley or Vanessa W or Vanessa H or Pam or Paris
Melissa Harris-Lacewell
She's great and I really liked how she subtly ended the segment with a "Shouldn't you be talking to a LGBT person about LGBT issues?" Then again, Olbermann talked to Michael Musto the week before and Musto used the time to make transphobic jokes about Carrie Prejean, so maybe not.
LOL, hopefully there are
LOL, hopefully there are people OTHER than Michael Musto and Perez Hilton that can be Keith's go-to person for LGBT issues. Does Joe Solomnese do talking head bits?
Prejean is irresistible
and that is a reformed sinner.
This is a very good example
