"Les Bleus", the cop show with a French twist. Oui, oui!
Cop shows in the U.S. have sometimes featured regular gay characters, like Julien in The Shield and John in NYPD Blue, but the French series Les Bleus has taken the next step by making a lead character gay, and actually given him a love interest. Nicolas Gob plays rookie cop Kévin, who falls in love with fellow cop Yann, played by Mathieu Delarive. The clips I've seen so far have been sweet and effective, and even though they're in French, it's easy to get the gist of what's going on, and I find myself making up my own dialogue (I knew I should've taken French in High School, but I took two years of Pig Latin instead...Rap-Cay!) I've chosen a few clips from Blog Gayclic.com, and thanks to the magic of Babelfish, have translated their helpful descriptions of each one. Normally, I'd rewrite into proper English, but there is something charming and fun about the way it is translated. You can see more clips of Kevin and Yann after the jump, and many thanks to AfterElton.com reader Enno for the tip about this great show! Beautiful surprise Wednesday evening by discovering (a little by chance) the new police series of M6, "the Blue ones. First steps in the police force ". Not only this series is well carried out and played well (what is limiting suspect for a French series), and in more one of its principal characters, Kévin, is gay... and rather nice! :o) Carried of Kévin: Originating in the Basque Country, Kévin dreamed to become CRS of beach, but it landed in a police station in full heart of Paris. Fan of musculation, it hides under his biscotos a a little naive heart, to tend a little too much. The girls adore it, especially Laura, but it is gay. Not easy in a medium like that of the police force. Often awkward, too timid, Kévin will have much evil to find its place in the medium of its brigade. But if it hates the brawl, it will never deflate. In the second episode Kévin makes the knowledge of Yann, a cop of the VAT, which invites it to dine... Here the extract below.
There are more clips after the jump! This evening find two new episodes of the series "the Blue ones"... And if last week you missed the first kiss between Yann and Kévin, it is to be seen right below!
Here thus the continuation of the adventures of Kévin (Nicolas Gob) and Yann (Mathieu Delarive), two gay cops of the series. GayClic prepared you a small assembly of the 10th episode of the first season, diffused last Wednesday, in which it is a question of aggression homophobe. Attention, leave your handkerchiefs..

Wow!
This show looks really interesting. Wish we had something like it here!
Thanks for posting!
Coincidences!
Funny you post this today. I don't have M6, so I cannot watch "Les Bleus". But tomorrow night France 2 will show the first (of two) episode of the mini-series "Sa rasion d'être" ("His reason to be"..) featuring Nicolas Gob (who plays Kévin in "Les Bleus"). The series takes place in the 80s (beginning of AIDS - which plays a role) and tells the story of Bruno (Nicolas Gob), Isabelle and Nicolas. Bruno loves Isabelle (Nicolas' sister) and Nicolas loves Bruno. I won't spoil it more.
Very small synopsys here: http://guidetv.france2.fr/jsp/prog/fiche.jspx?idProg=21967007Am quite looking forward to this.
Also, Nicolas Gob...
...played the morally conflicted younger brother of a gay man (Jérémie Renier) in the powerful WWII melodrama A Love to Hide.

I wonder if Les Bleus will ever be out on DVD
Yes, it is on DVD.
Two things two consider: a) It has Region 2 coding, so it will only play on REGION-FREE DVD players in the US.
b) It has FRENCH AUDIO only.
It's available from UNIVERSAL HOME ENTERTAINMENT and you can find it easily when you go to the French website of Amazon.
A word of 'warning', though - even though these clip promise otherwise and Kevin's storyline is a great one, it is one of MANY storylines and in many episodes NOT a focus.
BTW: The DVD release of Nicolas Gob's next project, SA RAISON D'ETRE is currently slated for April 3. According to the distributor, this one WILL feature English subtitles.

About the DVD...
Are there not even any French captions/sub-titles? My French is spotty: I have difficulty "hearing" it, but I can read it pretty well.
Check out my blog: http://radicalsexy.blogspot.com/
Nope.
Not even that. If you read through the French websites, it looks like there was general CRITICAL praise for LES BLEUS, while the ratings were a little disappointing. So I think that maybe they didn't invest a whole lot in making the DVD...

"Why are you such an unpleasant person?" - "Why do you care?"
Thanks for the info
Late..
Sorry Bountiful, I'm late with the answer. But Wolfi has replied and he did a better job at it than I could have. I tend to not know things like that, but I guess, I could/would have checked the French Amazon site too.
no problem!
a shout out
More..
Markie, there is more. Nicolas Gob (from "Les Bleus") has a lead role in "Sa raison d'être". His character is rather homophobic to start with, but it changes.
Wolfi, you are right about "Sa raison d'être" being released on April 3rd - at least that's what it says on amazon.fr. Though I find it very early, because the second part of this 2-episode mini is only airing on April 2nd.
Anyway, Nicolas Gob is someone to keep track of. In "Sa raison d'être" you have actors Cyril Descours and Philippe Levèbvre who played in “Clara Sheller” (Cyril plays a gay role, Philippe doesn’t, but they both play gay in “Sa raison’ d’être”). It was a funny but very good romantic story about a girl (Clara Sheller) and her best (gay) friend (JP). They both fall in love with Gilles. The first season (of 6 episodes) was a huge hit in France. A second season was foreseen, but it took (too) long to get started and all three main actors dropped out. Still, a second season has been green-lighted, but with three new actors. It will air in the autumn.
The reason why I right about “Clara Sheller” really is because of the actor who plays Gilles – Thierry Neuvic. He is fantastic and very easy on the eyes too. He has played gay a second time in the tv-movie “Autopsy”. Quite heavy stuff. It had not the success it had hoped for I think and it was also criticized by many for its ending (too clichés some thought), but I liked it and a lot had to do with Thierry Neuvic.
On a side note – I’m German but never lived there. I grew up in Brussels (just like Nicolas Gob ;o) and do tend to watch French, rather than German television (we get both and more channels from different countries (UK, NL, IT, ES etc)). I don’t tend to watch soaps, but I do follow Christian and Olli on “Forbidden Love” daily! I can’t say much more about German actors and gay roles, but I do know a bit about a few French actors and their ‘doing’ ;o)
I for one, will always try to check out series/movies with the following actors (who have either played a gay role (once or more) or have had parts in gay/-friendly series/movies): Thierry Neuvic (duh..), Jean-Marc Barr (half American), Julien Boisselier, Jérémy Renier (from Brussels too), Bruno Putzulu, Cyril Descours, Edouard Collin, Bruno Todeschini, Cyril Thouvenin, Aurélien Wiik. Jean-Michel Portal, Romain Duris, Benoit Magimel, Serge Dupire, Paul-Loup Rajot and many more. Even Anthony Delon (son of Alain Delon) has played gay once (“Louis Page” – ep. ‘La vérité à tout prix’), which was very touching.
Totally addicted to Forbidden Love...
