"Les Bleus" video update: "Come and knock on our porte!"

The last time was saw gay cops and lovers Kevin (played by Nicolas God Gob), and Yann (played by Mathieu Delarive), they were trying to juggle having a discreet relationship with their jobs as Paris's finest cops. In this series of clips, they have to contend with a meddling mother, a horny captain, and a hostage situation.

In the first clip, which is my favorite so far, Kevin's mother visits, which leads to all sorts of Three's Company style wacky misunderstandings (starting with her mistaking the Captain for Yann). I love that the show can engage in pure character-driven comedy occasionally instead of the constant heavy drama that cop shows in the U.S. dish out. Oh, and for no really good reason (except my enjoyment), Kevin is shirtless through most of the clip.

After the break, you can see two more clips, and tune back in early next week for more. Once again, thanks to ZTube31 for the translations!

In the second clip, things get serious as a hostage situation unfolds, and Kevin and Yann team up for the first time as cops. Think of them as a gay Cagney & Lacey. I loved the bit where, in the middle of this intense scene, the inner bitch in Kevin comes out, and he says, "don't take that tone with me!"

>

In the last clip, Kevin again finds himself in a hostage situation, but manages to reel off a hilarious quip about Superman, and make sure you watch til the end for the beginning of a plot twist coming up. What I love about seeing Kevin in police action is that he's not treated any differently than a straight character would be. He doesn't shrink away from confrontation, but he still huffs and puffs after he's chased a perp (in American cop shows, running a few miles doesn't seem to exert anyone at all).

    OMG, TOO FUNNY...

damn you. I was drinking some apple juice while watching the first clip and had no idea that last segment would be so ridiculously hilarious. *cleans up keyboard*

did kevin not remember his mom was in bed with him? oh god, how bad does that sound? haha

No slight to Kevin and Yann...

But my favorite moment from this batch is when the shirtless Kevin asks the man on the street if his tiny dog left the huge pile of doody on the sidewalk and the man says, "Oh, probably..."

    90% fantastic

I loved this season, right up to the final episode - which it sounds like you guys haven't seen yet.  After such a great series of stories, I don't know why they decided to end with a cliche.

    i know!!!!

i know what you mean... i love this show but but do they have to go there?!?! well... it makes good drama.... i just wished they just stuck with the secret gay lovers storyline... oh well.... i still find them really fun to watch (except for the dramatic ep - but it did made me teary eyed though!).... Gob is a great actor.

this blog is quite late.... there are i think two more episodes already available on youtube (and even those were quite late, too...i watched those episodes without translations weeks ago on dailymotion) ... episode 7 is so beautifully made.... not centering on our gay characters but very gay nonetheless....

    (SLIGHT) SPOILER ALERT!!!!

    (SLIGHT) SPOILER ALERT!!!

Yeah, I agree. The cliche bugged me. We've seen it done before. I will say this though: Gob did a fantastic job in that episode. I mean, he really had my heartstrings a-tugging. Just really phenomenal. Also, it was refreshing to see Kevin not only act caring and concerned but also aggressive and angry. I was practically cheering when he beat the living daylights out of the guys that did it. While it was a cliche, I felt those aspects helped redeem it somewhat. I'm excited to see what's next from this show.

    END SPOILERS

    Fantastic stories

I have really liked what Ive seen of this show. What a varied amount of stories they put lovable Kevin in. Nicholas gob is delightfull and I love how he, and the show, portray Kevin as a tough guy and a very sensitive man in a very distinct but very natural way. In other places those choices would most likely be portraid as mutually exclusive.

What a way to meet mom, ja. That was very funny. Dont think many of us like Yanns alouf attitude so far, but that might change very soon apparently. I hope that after certain events they changed the plot a bit. Ill just have to keep watching and I will surely do that.

Oh, and about episode 7, very suprising and very nicely done. Kudos to this show.

Now I *really* want to watch the full eps!

Not just the Kevin & Yann storyline. I want to know more about Laura, Lyes, Nadia, even Franchard. Too bad my high school French isn't good enough or I would consider getting the DVDs.

Thanks for the subtitled clips, ZTube31!

I was thinking the same thing, RJ...

...just from the clips I've been watching the show reminds me a lot of the first season of 'Grey's Anatomy' (of which I'm a rabid fan):

    • the whole rookies-in-their-first-year storyline
    • the mix of comedy and drama
    • the newby sleeping with the more experienced coworker
    • the over-achieving female character

I'd love to see (and understand) full episodes of this show.

I want to see whole series as well.

In fact, I sent an email to TLA Video suggesting that they get the U.S. DVD distribution rights, and received a response that they are in contact with M6 (the French channel that airs Les Bleus) to try to do just that. Maybe if more of us contact TLA and/or M6, we'll get to see the whole thing.
