Lifetime to air four films with gay faves: They had us with these posters

You've got to hand it to the Lifetime network, first they steal Project Runway from Bravo, now they've stolen our hearts with these awesomely awful posters from their new Nora Roberts Collection of upcoming films.

Seriously, I haven't seen artwork like this since the tragic end of the Stevie Nicks Tambourine Art that I used to live for.

As someone who's never read a Nora Roberts book, I don't know what to expect, but from the descriptions, cast, and posters, the film versions may turn out to be highly entertaining ... in a "let's get tipsy and mock them" sort of way:

These movies will be premiering four Saturdays in a row at 9 pm et/pt, starting on March 21 with Northern Lights. This first film stars Grammy Award winner LeAnn Rimes, Eddie Cibrian and Rosanna Arquette. The second, Midnight Bayou, stars Jerry O’Connell, Lauren Stamile and Faye Dunaway. The third, High Noon, stars Emilie de Ravin, Ivan Sergei and Cybil Shepherd. The last, Tribute, stars Jason Lewis, Brittany Murphy, Tippi Hedren and Diana Scarwid.

Okay, first of all, High Noon? Um ... hasn't that been used before? Secondly, these casts are to die for. In addition to AfterElton.com faves Eddie Cibrian and Jason Lewis, we also get Ivan Sergei (who played gay in The Opposite of Sex), new papa Jerry O'Connell, and ultimate dames Cybill Shepherd and Faye Dunaway. The only question I have is ... LeAnn Rimes? Really?

Here are the other two posters featuring Ivan and Jerry, which for some reason give me the urge to run off and visit Graceland. We also have the trailer for Northern Lights, which stars Eddie and LeAnn who, according to US Magazine, are in a bit of hot water now.

Hmm ... do you think I can get these on a set of collectible plates?

    LeAnn

LeAnn Rimes was in a Hallmark Channel [I think] Christmas movie a few years ago, so she has acted a little.  She must be trying to expand her career.

    Man, why don't they just

Man, why don't they just film the pages of a Harlequin romance and run that? Quadruple ick!

    Airbrushed?

I mean the posters are works of art, that's for certain.  Eddie, Jason, and Ivan are know for their bodies, though I think Jason's arm looks a little odd.

But it's the Jerry poster that caught my eye.  Now, I think Jerry is one of the funniest guys in the biz today - he makes me laugh every time I see him interviewed, and I'd watch him in anything (OK, maybe Kangaroo Jack was too much), but I've never thought of him having a body that looked anything like that, and the head appears to be attached at a weird angle.  Just sayin'.

Heh... Jerry has a great body (http://pdette502.blogspot.com/ scroll down) but his head in that picture looks... simian.

Those covers are hilarious....they also remind me of

All the manipulated fanart that I've seen in slash fandoms like The X-Files (Mulder/Krycek), Once a Thief (Mac/Vic) and The Sentinel (Jim/Blair).

    Northern Lights

So is Northern Lights going to become the Mr & Mrs Smith of TV movies? There is talk that Leanne and Eddie are having a relationship, they are both married. Perhaps there will be more drama behind the camera than in front. Ok, this is Nora Roberts, thats virtually impossible.

That is a great group of guys.

    Nora Roberts...

has been writing these kind of novels for a very long time.  Some others have been turned into made for TV movies even  before Lifetime came along.

Many of her books have been published by Harlequin romances most of them G and PG rated.  I've read a number of her books over the years.  I remember in the '70s, the couple would go through a lot of angst, and at the end, would share a kiss that always led to the altar.  Later on when Harlequin started their more "adult" book division Roberts would take us as far as the bedroom door.  Nowadays, we get to go into the bedroom.  But, marriage is still the ultimate goal.

Nora's books are good reading for a day when you don't want to tax your brain too much. (you can probaly get through one is three hours.) There's usually some kind of conflict that brings the heroine and hero together so they can solve the problem and then decide they were made for each other.  It's a very girly thing to do.

    Nora Roberts

Can miles truly separate you from friends?  If you want to be with someone you love, aren't you already there? --
Of course I have a different slant than most AE readers; I am a straight woman of upper years.  My mother, my daughter and I are all fans of Nora Roberts.  I have almost all of her books that have been published in paperback including these four.  I just wish I had Lifetime so I could watch the movies.

    Leann Rimes

Was briefly a cast member on Days of Our Lives a few years ago. She played a character named Madison. I think her character was involved with Eric Brady back when Jensen Ackles was on the show.

    The mall

I was in the mall last night, dining and drinking with local friends before my move.  And while walking to the restaurant, what do I see but a giant version of the Eddie/LeAnn poster on the back of a mall map.  They're really pushing these things.  I almost never see what I'd think of as the "target" Lifetime audience in this mall, it's mostly men, and straight ones at that.
