Liveblogging "One Life To Live": My guppy daddy
Oliver finds out that Staci is pregnant, and wonders if it could be the result of the night he got tanked and slept with her. Get it? Fish ... tanked? Anyway ... join us to find out how Staci worms her way out of Fish's grasp. Get it? Wor ... oh, forget it. Join us for the fun, and refresh for updates! EDITOR'S NOTE: One of the best things about AfterElton.com has been how respectful our readers are toward each other. Yes, we have heated debates on the site, but it is shockingly rare how little I've had to intervene and warn folks about their behavior. For the most part that is still true, but two issues have come up of late and I feel that I need to address them. No doubt those of you who follow our As the World Turns and One Life to Live coverage have noticed both shows have passionate fans as well as detractors. Obviously both shows have their pluses and minuses and that can lead to great debates about how each show is handling their gay characters and gay storylines. The problem is that those debates have spilled out of our Gays of Our Lives column, where such debates are appropriate, and into the Liveblogs for each show. And that is starting to ruin the enjoyment for those tuning in for the Liveblogs. I feel the purpose of the ATWT and OLTL Liveblogs is not just for those at work who can't watch the show to follow along what happened that day, but also a chance for fans to analyze, debate and discuss what happened during the episode. But it is not the place for fans of the show not being liveblogged that day to come in and either promote the show they like better or to bash the show they don't like. That is a hijacking the liveblog from it's intended purpose and starting today, it won't be allowed. If you go off topic in the comments for the OLTL liveblog and start posting about everything wrong with ATWT, your comment will be deleted and you'll be warned. If you do it again, your account will be temporarily suspended. Obviously this doesn't mean you can't ever mention the other show, but it needs to be in context and not intended to start a debate. You're adults and the vast majority of you understand what is appropriate and what is not. We will try to read every comment each day, but some liveblogs can generate more than a 100 comments. We are very short staffed, and I ask that if you see a comment you believe violates the rules, please private message myself, Snicks, or Ed and we will take a look. The second issue pertains to the rating system on the comments. Again, most people use the system as intended to either indicate they especially enjoyed a comment or to indicate their displeasure. Fortunately, most of the time it's used to praise a comment or, when used to give a low rating, used appropriately. But it's come to my attention that some folks are simply rating every post they disagree with zero stars and in the liveblog comments that can mean a lot of zero stars for someone who comments a great deal. And that's not fair to punish someone that way. Therefore, I've decided to disable the rating system. It's going to take a little time as there is some technical work involved, but starting today I'd appreciate it if folks simply stopped using. Please shoot me a note if you have any questions or thoughts on any of the above. Thanks and have fun! Michael 2:05PM EST: Blair tells Ross that she told Todd that TBTD is still married to him, and he says that it's just the tip of the iceberg. Blair says "I knew there had to be something bigger she was hiding than just being married to your dumbass!" Staci angrily dumps her still-twitching burger on the counter and demands that they cook it longer, because she can't eat raw meat, "obviously". The waitress looks confused, and Staci points to her weeks old baby bump, and says "duh, baby on board!" Oliver walks in just in time to hear her declaration. Todd is angry as hell at TBTD for lying, and sweeps everything off the desk, which brought back horrific memories of Ed at the last AE meeting. 2:15PM EST: Kim has her sights set on Rex, and when she finds out that he and GiGi are going to see a movie called Glass Slipper (which sounds like a particularly horrid chick flick with Sandra Bullock as a 45 year-old Cinderella) , she finagles some tickets and manipulates Sky into going with her. Staci sits Oliver down (he has the cutest look of anticipation, terror, and shock on his face) and assures him that the baby isn't his. A wave of relief washes over his face, but it's clear that after the initial shock wore off, he'd be able to handle it. 2:25PM EST: This is apropos of nothing, but I like that the show thought enough in advance to have a poster of Toy Story in the "theater" (since it was just re-released last week). Oh dear, are Staci and Oliver bonding? Olive mentions "missing his shot with the one person he's always wanted" and Staci says "it sucks when that happens". 2:30PM EST: Damn, Todd just broke up with TBTD. He says "you make me sick, I can barely stand to be in the same room with you! I want you out of here!" Paging Blair's stunt double! We need you on the set! Staci gives Oliver some advice ... "Don't give up on that guy". She seems almost ... human. McBain calls him, and tells him to put his Police Cop cap back on, he needs him in the Jared investigation. Kim is trying to make Gigi (who's sitting in the opposite row) jealous, and starts crawling all over Sky in the theater. GiGi makes a "Rex Face" and starts causing a scene. Kim is delighted, and while she starts to cut out a hole in the bottom of the popcorn tub for Sky (so she and he can play "find the prize"), Sky jumps up to berate the person making so much noise (which would never happen in real life ... He would so get his ass kicked) and sees that it's GiGi. 2:45PM EST: Oliver shows up and McBain tells him to go back to the station and crack open Jared's laptop. Jared complains, so McBain says "fine, we'll open it up here". 2:50PM EST: Ugh! Kim and Staci are like the Hooter's version of Lucy and Ethel. They're starting their "break up Rex and Gigi" plan. 2:55PM EST: Oliver works his tech magic on the laptop and finds ... incriminating stuff against Jared. Bo looks ready to go Bo-llistic on him. TBTD pleads with Todd to try and work things out, but he literally shoves her out the door. McBain arrests Jared, but Natalie believes that he's innocent. Preview Time: Blair - "AIIIYEEEE" ... splat! Crap.
How do they know
Baby Daddy...
So
The Glass Slipper
I'm guessing it's a fictional remake of this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Glass_Slipper
wow
Stacey
She's also had scenes with Brody and Schuyler that make her more relatable. Her real problem is her inability to act on her moments of insight.
It's amazing how she flourishes when she's on screen with someone who doesn't hate her. :)
Staci
Credit where credit is due: it takes a lot of fortitude to basically, if indirectly, admit that you're a slut who has unprotected sex with so many men within a short period of time that there is more than possible father for the (obviously only weeks old) fetus you've currently got gestating.
Having had this charming conversation Oliver may now want to pay a little trip to the clinic for a check-up...
Now, Now!
That omniscient perspective
Staci vs. Fish
Well, if we're not using outside knowledge, she had sex with another guy within, what, a few days of their hookup? While he was drunken trawling for ass within hours of his breakup with another woman.
Based only on that encounter and today's conversation, I'm not sure she's the one coming off looking the worse.
Layla and Fish
And we can only assume, but did Fish and Layla had protected sex? Who knows, maybe she's pregnant too..
--------------------------------
Would somebody hug OLIVER, already!?
Well, of course she's pregnant!
If she's not, who would they switch Staci's baby with at birth?
Now, wouldn't THAT be the wackiest baby switch ever?
Keep in mind
Oliver would have very likely ended up passed out on the bar if the predatory Staci hadn't been cruising for a sperm donation. He was more wallowing in misery than hunting. Oliver's guilty, conservative conscience may have initially made him feel like he "used her", but once it was out there that he wasn't the only fish (lower-case) that she'd reeled in around the time she conceived I would have expected some eyebrow-raising.
But maybe it just helped absolve any lingering guilt. Knowing that she's not some shrinking violet I mean. Presumably he forgot the incredibly awkward heavy-handed seduction, complete with gal pal on hand to bear witness.
At least when he slept with Layla they were officially dating.
I don't know why anyone would consider this trivial. Post-AIDS unprotected sex with multiple partners is generally at least seen as risky in the gay community. Why is it nobody thinks it's a big deal when it's male-female sex?
Testing..

The Head Writer
Most bang...
Buck or no buck, there was banging.
Aime-mois moins, mais aime-moi longtemps
Oliver is quite the young buck...
happens on "Maury" every day
"Does this cocktail glass make me look fat?"
Oliver...
Oliver would so be able to handle being a daddy. I think he's going to do a great job when the truth finally does come out.
"Get your hands dirty with me"
That's quite the come on, Ross.
Well, it would work for me!
Daddy Oliver
My sense is that nothing would make Oliver happier than to have both Kyle and the baby, thus forming a slightly-modified version of the traditional dream family.
I can't wait to see what happens when he finds out. It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that he would want custody of the child.
Daddy O
I don't care for "gaybe" stories.
However, I don't see this as one. It isn't about some needy gay couple making absurd choices for plot points. If and when Oliver finds out about the fact the baby is his he will step up.
To me there is a big difference in taking responsibility and doing something just because you think it will some how fix what is missing in your life. I can totally jump on board a Kish family, or even Oliver as a single dad, while the Kevin & Scott "I WANT IT! I WANT IT! I think we should wait! I WANT IT!!!!" storyline made me quit watching that show. I still love Scotty from what I've read in the recaps and might return if this story runs its course.
I really don't have a clue about the "bad?" Jared storyline - I usually see these things coming. I'm sure he isn't the bad guy though - maybe they are going to make the bad guy his dad.
I'm with ya, PSI, I would think Oliver should be headed to the doctor to get checked - I can think of one. You just know that Kyle is going to be the one that has to deliver the baby.
PS - Is TBTD now TBTR or TBTM? Nevermind. She will always be TBTD.
This would almost be "straight gaybe" story
After all, Oliver did apparently father the child unintentionally during a drunken night of heterosexual intercourse. Thus, setting aside him being gay, this would be little different than an equivalent storyline wherein he were straight and in love with a woman other than Staci.
Point of interest: would Kyle be so eager for fatherhood, assuming that he ditches Nick in favor of Oliver?
To your point, this isn't a case of a gay couple looking for validation through parenthood. Mercifully we're still in soap land here and we have the more traditional drama of Oliver being in love with someone other than the mother of his child, with all the complications that entails. Plus Staci isn't pointing the finger at him anyway, so the truth has yet to come out.
I just think that Oliver is such an upstanding guy that he would want the child simply because he couldn't imagine not being a real father to it once he learns it's his. If he could have Kyle too that would be his heaven.
I hope we get to see Kyle struggle with it.
The fact that Oliver, and by default Kyle, find themselves in this situation by happenstance instead of premediation is exactly why I like the possibility of this story much better.
Kyle might not want to be a father but how can he deny that to Oliver? What will he do when the thing he loves about Oliver, his inate sense of goodness and responsibility, is going to be a problem?
I like the fact that on this soap, I generally can't be sure of any outcome but it will seem true. I thought I would hate the idea of Stacy being "with guppy" but again this show makes the story work.
So do I.
Assuming the triangle resolves in Oliver's favor, a baby is something that Kyle may not have signed on for. So it creates even more drama and angst for Oliver and Kyle to grapple with this internal conflict assuming Stacy carries to term and Oliver finds out that the guppy is his.
Part of me wants Kyle to revert to his bad-boy, lab-test altering ways and make it look like Rex is the father because he's either ambivalent about being a father or Stacy blackmails him to do it for some contrived reason or another.
I just want some struggle - any struggle for Kyle - and that Kyle not immediately be accepting of being an insta-Dad, which will probably be a reminder to Kyle of Oliver's propensity to turn to women when things get stressful as Oliver did in college.
Should be interesting to see what TPTB come up with this part of the story.
Tea Rayburn-Manning?
i have all this
TBTD
Intervention is needed for Blair & TBTD
I would LOVE to see that happen with those two characters.
Yet, that would never happen, because Todd's "wicker stick" is made of the finest Belgian chocolate. Blair and TBTD are each addicted to
ithim and they can't seem to get that monkey off their back, regardless of what other man crosses their path. There should be an "Intervention" episode with Viki, The CRAMER WOMEN and Cris Vega trying to talk some sense into those two women about their obession. Todd's not worth it, even if it is made of the finest Belgian chocolate.
Love me less, but love me a long time - Les Chansons D'Amour
Thank God Scott/Oliver is on today...
Crazyland
It's just crazyland to me, that a known rapist can shame someone into feeling guilty about LYING.
Love me less, but love me a long time - Les Chansons D'Amour
Tea
Tea more rotten than Todd?
That's despicable. Tea never raped anyone for one thing. Todd is evil.
EVIL.
Tea, Todd, & Cristian
Well...
poor T.B.T.D
my heart went out to tea today and even though she should of told todd earlier but i just think. that how she can do better
Love Your Signature- Here's mine-
Movie posters come out way in advance
Toy Story posters have been in my theater for months. Heck, Alice In wonderland posters have been in my local theater for months.
I'm more impressed that it looks like they went on location to an actual theater instead of faking it with a tiny NYC screening room.
Blair
I don't understand
Crazy Blair
Don't worry. The crazy wheel always winds up coming to rest on Todd eventually.
Blair's crazy is directly proportional to her proximity to Todd. They're locked in a death spiral, and she would be happy the moment she let herself get over him.
I find them fascinating because it's so common IRL to see people who are bad for each other to play the break up-get together dance for years, but it's so rare on TV. Normally these kinds of toxic relationships either end after a set arc, or get magically transmogrified into real, healthy relationships (see Luke & Laura, Amanda Woodward and Peter Burns).
The dialog for "The Glass Slipper"
Yay
Oh My Gosh!
shocking!
And that is how you write a
And that is how you write a character into a corner...
Bye, JarHead Banks...
I May Wind Up Eating These Words...
...but I still think Jared is innocent. Well, realtively. He's clearly up to something with the victim, but I don't think he killed that guy, and I don't think he's the stalker (or at least, not resposible for all the stalker activity. He may have faked his own attack.)
The obvious suspect is never the guilty one on TV. And with OLTL, it's not even necessarily the next most obvious suspect.
Nice image, but when I picture Fish in water I picture this...
But my mind is like a sewer...
EDIT: The nuns that clean the flying monkey cages have asked me to link the photo instead of posting it.
Here, there is a naked butt in it.

Thoughts
I've been watching OLTL for years--years!--and I still have no idea what Tea and Blair are fighting over; I loathe Todd Manning and can't fathom why anyone else would think otherwise.
Who would've thought that we might be able to salvage something from the Morasco Fiasco afterall? Though I still shutter when she mentions Rex, Stacy had a great rapport with Fish and Kim today.
