Liveblogging "The Young & The Restless": A very special episode
Today's The Young & The Restless promises to give us Phillip coming out to Jill and Kay. Will "lessons be learned"? Will people "grow and share"? Will we get through it with a straight face? Join us below to find out, and refresh for breaking updates! 12:35PM EDT: Cane is bartending when Phillip comes and they have a tense talk about Cane just beginning to like his life, and the life he had "never existed". Phillip says "that's just how I felt when I decided to leave this place forever". 12:37PM EDT: Kay is getting ready to leave the hospital and she and Jill have a "discussion" about Phillip and the reasons he left. Nina (who knows the real reason) looks ready to explode. 12:40PM EDT: Mary Jane is still in the shack behind the mansion and having conversations with her stuffed cat. In one hilarious scene, she props the cat up to use as a pillow. I have to give Stacy Haiduk all the credit in the world for getting through that scene. Meanwhile, Adam is on the phone with a doctor trying to coordinate the fake sonogram (Ashley has miscarried thanks to Adam, and believes she's still pregnant). 12:45PM EDT: Phillip finds out that Kay is on her way home, and decides to meet her there. Unfortunately the mansion apparently amplifies his telepathic ability, allowing him to hear everyone's voices from the hospital. 12:50PM EDT: Nina is the first to arrive back, and she warns Phillip that everyone suspects something, and he needs to come out. Kay and Jill enter, and Nina says "are you ready to hear the whole story"? 12:55PM EDT: Mary Jane has a mini-paranoid freak-out, and when the doctor arrives to give Ashley her sonogram, he contemplated telling her the truth, but eventually goes through with the fakery.
1:00PM EDT: It's Phillip's big moment! He tells Kay and Jill "I was never going to be the man you wanted me to be, because Phillip Chancellor III couldn't possibly be ...GAY!" Kay has a look on her face like Phillip just farted in church, while Jill rolls the word around her tongue a few times ...."GAAAAY"? 1:05PM EDT: Okay, I am so loving this. Kay says "but you and Nina had a child, so did you ....", and Phillip says "yes, because I was drunk". Um, Nina is standing right next to you, Mr. Sensitive. 1:10PM EDT: Jill says "why did you hide it?" and Phillip says "it was the late 80's, and I had big hair, and you can say you would you have accepted it, but you wouldn't have." to which Kay responds "we're not bumpkins". Jill asks him if there was ever "someone", and Phillip sadly shakes his head and says "No. I ate the loneliness. As long as I stayed here, I knew I'd have no life ". 1:20PM EDT: Kay says "why didn't you just move away? Why did you send a charlatan in your place?" Phillip tells them "I sent you the Phillip you always wanted". Jill is furious, saying "you didn't even give us a chance. You left because of how you thought we'd respond". She and Kay get up in Phillip's face (uh-oh), and Kay says "you sent us a stain to take your place!" Huh? Oh wait, I think she meant "Cain". Kay starts to cry (oh hell!) and says "two bloody years of happiness with Cain versus twenty years of loss? Do you really think that's a fair trade?" 1:25PM EDT: Adam visits Mary Jane in the potting shed, and brings her supplies. He finally notices her stuffed cat, and she says "he sleeps a lot". Adam offers to bring the cat some Tender Vittles. This is officially my favorite scene of the show (and I love the creepy score they have going, which I guess is the "potting shed" soundtrack".) 1:29PM EDT: Jill tells Phillip "you should have told us!", and Phillip says "if you say so". As he turns to leave, Thom Bierdz delivers a sort-of half-smile. Seriously, a half-face smile. It was very ... odd. PREVIEW TIME: No Phillip, but Adam finds out the truth about his potting shed guest. ,Submitted by on Mon, 2009-07-13 12:34. |

When did Victor get stupid?
Adam
Adam's original endgame
always seemed to be a big question mark and was frequently discussed on Y&R-specific message boards. The best theories I read typically had something to do with him wanting to drive Ashley out of ''the haunted house'' in order to leave Victor isolated and alone (with him). But causing Ashley to sufffer a miscarriage was definitely NOT part of the plan, because one of the key points when Ashley fell down the stairs is that Adam actually reached out his hand to try to prevent her fall. They then reinforced that act by having it be the one thing Ashley vividly recalled about her encounter with Sabradam during flashbacks playing in her confused mind. Of course, as you aptly put it, whatever he was trying to do is now totally off the rails, and he's just trying to cover his butt for causing the miscarriage and framing Estella and ... lol!
Phillip....
I agree, but...
I must disagree
As odd as it may sound (and I can't believe I'm getting this personal on an internet forum) I've had a similar situation as Phillip's in my life. You can't imagine the psychological stress that befalls the 'family heir' when he discovers that he can't be this person he's been groomed his whole life to be.
I am sympathizing more with Phillip's character than any other character I've seen on broadcast TV, except maybe Mary Jane. Isn't that right, Kitty? ;-)
I agree with the selfish, self-absorbed observation,
yet, I guess I can tolerate this version of PC3 simply because I also remember how difficult it was for him 20 years ago always being caught in the middle of the Kay-Jill B.S. And wihle I'm definitely looking forward to PC3's interaction with his adult son, I'm also hoping they abandon any notion of pairing him up with Rafe.
DNA
IIRC
Yeah the drunk comment
played directly into history, since Nina purposely got Phillip back on the booze and totally wasted in an attempt to have sex with him, and it worked. Of course, she got preggers and the baby was her meal ticket. I don't remember them ever having sex again. When they did get married, they went on a honeymoon to Hawaii; maybe they showed something then, but that was really played more as a family vacation, since they took the baby with them on this trip. When they got back, and they were given a post-wedding reception, Phillip was already seen sneaking drinks at this party. Within a month or so of this event, he was dead.
What I really like....
The only thing I like better than Mary Jane and Kitty is your wit, in your posts Snicks! ..
And that impish smile of yours!
Here, Kitty Kitty
I think Adam...
