Ready or not, "Gay Robot" is coming to TV

Comedy Central has announced the new projects they're developing, and are not shy about the demographic they're targeting:

""We first and foremost went looking for things that are very funny and appeal to young guys," "There are all kinds of formats that can take that form. And we've identified a wide range of talent that can appeal to our young demo."

What this means is that we can look forward to such gems as Untitled Snoop Dogg Project, America's Biggest Idiot, plus the resurrection of the better off dead Gay Robot. For those who don't know, Gay Robot was a pilot shot over two years ago that was turned down by every network, but became a huge hit when it was posted online. Now Comedy Central has ordered a new pilot, in animation form, that will consist of two 11 minute segments.

Hopefully, the new pilot will be less groan-inducing than the live action version, which featured lines about "semen smoothies" and "lavender scrotums" and a main character that was gay because his inventor "spilled a wine cooler on him". This kind of humour can be funny and edgy when done well (like in Drawn Together or South Park), or it can be offensive and crass, which is the case with Gay Robot. The fact that it's produced by That Chuck & Larry Guy does not bode well.

Am I overreacting? You can judge for yourself, the full live action clip is after the jump.

    I think you're overreacting.

I think you're overreacting. Sure, gay robot is slightly stereotypical and definitely man-obsessed (known guys like this before), but all of his friends adore him regardless of the fact that he's a gay robot. Plus, it's pretty funny, I thought. I also love Nick Swardson from Reno 911 and Grandma's Boy.

    Gay Robot isn't even funny

What the hell is Comedy Central thinking??

This really is lowest common denominator humor. Who laughs at this crap, NASCAR fans? Rush Limbaugh listeners?

    Was that

The voice of Kip from Napoleon Dynamite doing Gay Robot's voice? Sounds like it.

Also, I can agree that there is a lot of stereotypical humor in this show, but I thought it was pretty funny + not very offensive.

Plus, I'm a fan of Nick Swardson + his character "Terry" on Reno 911 has me dying from laughter.

    I liked Gay Robot

I liked Gay Robot. I found it funny, and like friday13fan said he had lots of friends who where rooting for him to find a date. That Chuck & Larry Guy may  have made some questionable decisions but he also introduced me to the first "There Gay, Get Over It" couple I had ever seen in a mainstream movie in "Big Daddy". I do believe the guy's heart, at least, is in the right place.

    It's Stupid but Positive

Okay I watched the whole thing but I'm not exactly sure why. I don't think I'd look forward to it, but you won't see me running and screaming from it either. But to put that into perspective, consider this. I've also actually watched Robot Chicken all the way through, at least once (That's my story anyway) Drawn together is the worst adult orientated cartoon out there, I find it hard to believe that this could be worse. What's more annoying than a seaman smoothie (Chuckles) calling him gay robot consistantly, give the poor bastard a name, then maybe I could watch it, it's too Mad TV/Sat Night Live sketchish otherise. And that deserves a one time only viewing.
