Confirmed! "Southland" is moving to TNT

Ben Mackenzie and Michael Cudlitz

As expected, Southland, which features Michael Cudlitz as a gay cop, has been resurrected from the cancellation heap after being unceremoniously dumped by NBC.

According to THR.com, cable network TNT will pick up all six un-aired episodes and combine them with the seven episodes aired last season. After the initial run of thirteen episodes, the network will decide whether to resume production.

This is great news for fans of the show, and if this article on TNT's strategy is any indication, this network will take Southland (and it's fans) a bit more seriously.

    Great news!

It's amazing how networks don't even give a show a chance to get legs. I'm so glad this is gonna be picked up on TNT.
On a similar thought...I hope NBC moves the UK show Merlin to SyFy if they decide not to pick up more of the series.

    Joy!

Praise the gay baby jesus! I'm so beyond happy we'll see the unaired episodes, and am hoping to see even more after that.

    Fisticuffs: Leno vs. Southland!

I love that TNT is going to put this up against Leno at 10:00. The ratings won't lie!

    Yes!

TNT is expected to announce Monday that it will begin showing “Southland,” the critically acclaimed but abruptly canceled NBC police drama, starting in January. With the move, “Southland” becomes the rare TV series to be dropped by a broadcaster and revived by a cable outlet, where it will compete at 10 p.m. with NBC’s “The Jay Leno Show.”

I am glad this show isn't gone forever!

    Yay!

I did too, and my brother just rolled his eyes at me. I was so excited for the season premiere, and when NBC cancelled it, my heart just friggin' broke, so I'm very happy for Jan 2010.

    Canadians?

I'm super excited about this, because it means the possibility of new episodes. However, as a Canadian viewer, I'm not sure if I'll actually be able to see these episodes. Although we get NBC, I'm not so sure we get TNT, or an equivalent. Are there any Canadians who know?

    Re: Canadians?

I don't think we get TNT at all. At least, I've never seen it on the channel list. I'll be watching these online.

    Sounds like the show might

Sounds like the show might got a second life ... not wanting to kill the good mood however ...

    >>After the initial run of thirteen episodes, the network will decide whether to resume production<<

... 13 episodes that's like 3 months - to be counted as of the date TNT actually starts airing the show ... not sure, but will the cast still be available at the time that TNT comes around to make the decision?

TNT to start airing Southland as of ...

... January 12 according to Nikki Finke on Deadline Hollywood. The German TV media website Quotenmeter also mentions that TNT will start airing the show (beginning with the repeat of season 1) as of January 2010.

Rather far off considering that TNT apparently will make a decision about potential new episodes only after having seen the numbers the show can pull on TNT.
