"Swingtown" producer & Sean Hayes to bring us "Bi-Coastal" drama

While we're all anxiously awaiting to see if Swingtown will be renewed by CBS (or moved to a better another network), producer/creator Mike Kelley has inked a deal to produce more shows, including a very intriguing offering that's being co-produced by Sean Hayes.

Bi-Coastal is a one hour drama set to air on Showtime, and according to the press report, "it centers on a successful man who struggles to balance family life with his wife and kids in Los Angeles as he falls in love with a man in New York."

According to Kelley, you can expect something new and fresh:

"It has a lot of the watermarks of things I love to write about -- people with secrets and high-stakes love lives," Kelley said.
Compared to Swingtown, which was based on his childhood memories of his parents and their swinger friends, "I want to give 'BiCoastal' a bit of a harder edge and heightened sense of drama," Kelley said.

There's no word on casting, but it certainly sounds interesting, and because it's going to be on Showtime, it won't have that "neutered" feel that a network show does. Bisexuality is rarely explored on TV, and when it is, it's rarely done well, so hopefully this will be an improvement.

can someone clear this up for me?

Is Sean Hayes gay and out or is he like Richard Gere who's straight but everyone assumes that he's gay since he hangs out with gay men and plays gay characters?

Not that it matters, I guess, but I feel like I missed the bus on this one.

He "won't say" if he's gay or not

Kind of like Anderson Cooper and Jodie Foster.  His reasoning is it (paraphrasing) that it puts the sex act in people's minds, and they won't be able to concentrate on the (acting) work.  You know who never says they "won't say" if they're gay or not?  People who aren't gay.

    The general impression,

The general impression, from what I've heard, is that Sean Hayes is definitely gay but not out. But hey, who knows....

I'm like a superhero, with no powers or motivation...

    Sean Hayes was out

when he did Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss. Then he got Will & Grace and went back in -- declining to "talk about my private life" and showing at events with beards.

    He is dead to me.

Swingtown and Showtime and Sean... WTF?

I still don't understand the appeal of Swingtown. People actually watch this show and stay awake? People under 60? I thought CBS was trying to shed the image of only aiming for the Baby Boom Generation.

Also, I'm still waiting for something good to make it worthwhile to subscribe to Showtime. Guess I'll be waiting a long, long time.

It also sounds like someone needs to sit down with Sean Hayes - someone other than an ass-kissing agent who wants their 10% cut - and have "the talk" with him: you know, Sean, there are some gay people who can pass for straight and then... well... and then there's you... not that you aren't special, mind you. :P

    the herald's picture

    Heh.

But to Sean's credit, I don't really think he's trying to "pass".

And I loved every minute of Swingtown.  And I'm significantly under 60.

    Some of my favourite shows

Some of my favourite shows are on Showtime:Weeds & Dexter. And I didn`t get "the gay vibe" from sean at all when he`s doing interviews and stuff. He is just good looking, apart from that I personally couldn`t tell if he is gay or not in real life, not that I mind either way.

You may need to see a doctor.

I think your gayday is broken  :P

    As my post below,Sean`s

As my post below,Sean`s early commercials before will & grace clearly shows that he was casted in straight roles. The casting directors must agree with me,hehe.

Sean is really talented and can play very different characters, if only some of you guys give him a chance and see his other work.
