"The Daily Show" on the idiocy of DADTLast night The Daily Show took on the subject of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" with Jon Stewart playing the voice of reason and John Oliver ... not. The piece centered on out Arabic linguist Dan Choi and the President's refusal to become involved in his dismissal from the military. Jon Stewart presents reasonable arguments about why Dan should be allowed to serve openly, while John Oliver presents the only argument the other side has - "but he's gay!" It's funny because it's sad ... and ridiculous. Submitted by on Fri, 2009-05-15 08:01. |

wow...
As a vet
As a vet, I was lying in bed last night watching this and thinking "that really sums it up, doesn't it?" followed by "this will be snicks' first post on the blog in the morning."
When was the last time GLAAD honored Stewart for all he does for us, or have that retired him to Hall of Fame status?
ROFL
Unf. <3
And to think...
And to think that some wondered if Stewart would have any source of material just because there's now a Democrat in the White House and the Dems control Congress!
This can only be for the good, because it's becoming clear that only by all-out humiliating Obama, Pelosi and Reid can any progress happen. They're not going to do anything until it seriously starts hurting their public image as "reformers". I won't say "liberals" because none of them wants that label attached to them. It's almost as toxic as "socialist".
But nonetheless, the actual liberals that watch Jon Stewart and vote Democrat need to have this whole deal made crystal clear to them. So kudos as always to Stewart, one of our finest straight allies.
Loved it
Jon perfectly summed it up last night like no one else could.
Loved the part where he lists all the lines that have been crossed on the war on terror and yet DADT is the one and only line that can't be crossed.
Only wish that Jon could be put up for voting in the gay of the week.
Divided by a common language
Yes, Jon Stewart is a absolute star and much beloved here in the UK Also.
Mr Oliver... "b through z(ee)" Really? You're English man, pull yourself together. Do you think an American would say "b through z(ed)" on a British show? No! <--jokey outrage by the way ;-)
Genius
John Stewart rocks
I saw the clip last night and loved it, it hit how ridiculous the policy is from every side.
The daily show has been amazing this past year covering everything involving gay rights. To a far better extent than most news show. From the silence on DADT and the Shepard Act to gay marraige in iowa/vermont/maine. His show has only gotten better since the election, which is a suprise. (He gets bonus points for only having one Ms. California clip for the month)
As a suggestion, since this isn't the only time john stewart has covered something better involing gays as compared to the overall media (Prop 8 comes to mind), the AfterElton staff should start a gay ally of the month award (GAM award or GAMA) for truth in representation.
