Breaking: Starz Picks Up Next Season of "Torchwood"

The Starz cable channel has acquired U.S. television rights to the next season (or as our UK brethren say, "series") of Torchwood.

Starz and BBC One will both debut the 10 episode season in the summer of 2011, with both John Barrowman and that one girl returning, and new cast members that will try, but fail to live up to the legacy of Ianto.

"We have a long history of working with many U.S. networks, but it is incredibly exciting to be working with Starz for the first time, as well as to be reunited with the best of British in Russell, Jane and Julie. Torchwood will burst back onto the screen with a shocking and moving story with global stakes and locations that will make it feel bigger and bolder than ever," said Ben Stephenson, controller, BBC Drama Commissioning.

We'll keep you updated, and in the meantime pray for a Starz Spartacus/Torchwood crossover. Think of it ... a naked Captain Jack battling alien monsters in the Colosseum. Or maybe Spartacus joining the Torchwood team, with he and Captain Jack naked wrestling to determine the leader.

Either way would work, don't you think?
