Watch and Discuss: Is This Verizon Ad Homophobic?

There's a new ad for the Verizon "Droid" phone that's been causing a buzz because of its questionable imagery.

Seeking to appeal to "real guys", this 30 second spot features a smarmy announcer asking "should a phone be pretty?", and then we're assaulted with a barrage of obligatory scenes of racehorses, scud missiles, and ... bananas thrown into circular saws?

But the scene that has people talking is when a paintball is thrown at a group of "colorfully"-dressed male mannequins. The question is "what symbolism was Verizon going for with that scene?" If you show people a picture of those mannequins and ask for the first thing that comes to mind, odds are a lot of them will say "gay stereotype".

Still, there are just as many people who think the ad is harmless, and that people are reading too much into it.

Watch the ad below and take our poll. Do you think the ad is homophobic?
