What's the gay appeal of GSN's new "Big Saturday Night"?
The 2009 Game Show Awards airs on GSN this Saturday at 8 PM EST, and keep your fingers crossed that Favorite Reality Competition nominee Amazing Race and Favorite Celebrity Player nominee Neil Patrick Harris can pull off upsets. But even if they don't win, all is not lost, as the network will launch a gay-inclusive new three-hour block of original programming and live entertainment on Saturday nights starting June 13 at 8 PM EST, with the debut of Big Saturday Night: 20 Q - Hosted by So You Think You Can Dance's Cat Deeley and Queer as Folk star Hal Sparks as the voice behind the computer, Mr. Q, this series is based on the online and handheld game using artificial intelligence in a man vs. machine contest. Rounding out the action on Big Saturday Night, GSN will feature live entertainment from music to comedy co-hosted by Ross Mathews (aka Ross the Intern from The Tonight Show with Jay Leno). Mathews will also do taped interviews and entertainment segments for the block and celebrities will make appearances. I have to confess that I've never actually seen Ross the Intern in action (because it would mean actually watching Jay Leno), and frankly the image of his mentor Rosie O'Donell's now infamous live variety show instantly comes to mind. As for 20 Q, well, I can't stand the handheld game. Every time I try to get it to guess "penis", it'll ask me questions like "Does it bring people joy?" (hell yes) and "Can you fold it?" (um ... sometimes), and at the end it always guesses the same thing: "Is it a Dik-Dik? Does either of these shows pique your interest? Submitted by on Mon, 2009-06-01 15:27. |
