"Wheatables" has a secret on "As The World Turns" ... care to speculate?
Van Hansis, Jake Silbermann, Laurence Lau Anyone who watches As The World Turns knows that the character of Brian Wheatley (Laurence Lau)), unaffectionately known as Wheatables, has had a problem with Luke (Van Hansis) and his pesky outness. Many times people have wondered "what's his problem?". Well, we may soon have the answer! Find out more after the break. According to this article, a secret about Wheatables is going to be revealed just in time for November sweeps. A big secret. Fans who think Luke Snyder Foundation adviser Brian is a big ol' hater may soon find out that there's more to the tightly-wound conservative than meets the eye. If you've been thinking of tuning 'em out ... don't. And if you have friends who've already stopped watching, tell them to reset their DVRs. Rest assured that LGBT fans — and perhaps their foes are gonna freak. So...what could the big secret be? The obvious answer is that he's closeted, and is going to come out, perhaps by coming on to Luke. But there are other choices. For instance, my guess is that he's actually....Noah's father! You may remember that Noah (Jake Silbermann) had a loony dad who tried to kill Luke, and after lots of evil machinations, somehow it all ended with him falling off a boat in NYC and being "presumed dead". Of course, in soap land, "presumed dead" is meaningless...actually, "certified dead" is meaningless as well, as they can bring back anyone, anytime. My theory is that when Noah's dad fell off the boat, he drifted down to the Hudson River, which as we all know, is pure acid. The acid melted his face, requiring him to undergo experimental reconstructive surgery. Don't scoff, it's happened before. Back in the early 80's, the character of Steven was given this surgery on Dynasty, and returned as someone duller, blonder...and somehow taller. That's just my take, though. What do you think the big "reveal" is going to be? Take our poll, and let us know in the comments! Submitted by on Tue, 2008-10-21 17:08. |

Luke, I am your father....in-law
Actually, the funny thing about Steven's surgery on Dynasty was that the effects eventually wore off. In The Reunion mini-series he reverted to the appearance he had in the first two seasons. And nobody noticed.
My vote is that Darth Wheatables is Count Mayer with some modifications. Maybe as it was with Steven, he will magically revert to his original form.
Hmmm.....
I don't think he's gay. Too obvious. And there's not much story potential beyond the reveal.
He's definately not Luke's father. Luke's paternity was established long ago.
I would love it if he had a gay son. That way we could have an unaccepting father of the non-psycho variety. The show could do a story of a parent struggling with and accepting their kid being gay and they could do a triangle between Luke, Noah and the new guy. That option has the most story potential.
Ex-gay? That would go against the show's stance that you're gay and that can't be changed. So no.
He'll probably be Col. Mayer with a new face. That's the show's style.
You forget this is ATWT...
I don't think he's gay. Too obvious.
Subtlety is one thing the writers on this show have never been accused of.
My thoughts have changed...
Luke's Father
Gay bashing?
My take is that Brian had a son (possibly a male lover) who was bashed and killed. I think it explains why he isn't really homophobic but terrified of Luke being too "public." Luke and Noah haven't been bashed in a year and I think the writers tend to fall back on easy "gay" stories. Maybe Kevin will assault Luke again, and Brian will be all "I told you so." Bleah.
Brian supposedly has a long rep in the fund-raising business and was sought out by head-hunters. I know the writers can do anything they want, but having Brian revealed to be Colonel Perv in disguise seems patently impossible.
This is what I was going to say
Or maybe he's just a Republican
Why can't one of our choices...
...be "All of the above!"
Actually, my Worst Nightmare explanation is that he's Noah's biological father from a affair he had with some long-lost sibling of Lily's(who gave him up for adoption), which would mean Luke and Noah are related and Can Never Have Sex.
But I'm pretty sure the real secret is equally absurd.
My theory
Dusty needed to test his "Dead But Not Dead" chemical and so used Cherie, Noah's mother, as a guinea pig, knowing that Col. Mayer was going to kill her. In order to cover his tracks, Dusty paid for Cherie's sex change operation to Brian Wheatley....

Oh, those ideas are awesome...
David E. and Joseph, those ideas are both too good to be true!
Please, please, please let
Please, please, please let it not be the case that Brian is Winston reincarnated.
Is it too much to ask for Brian to be a well adjusted gay man who, in his own words, was just recently out of a relationship and is likely starting anew in Oakdale? I see Brian as not seeing Lucinda as a romantic partner but as a role model. Lucinda is Brian's business diva, if you will, and someone for him to emulate. This could be the chance for ATWT to go where it couldn't with the Hank Elliott character in the late 1980's/early 1990's.
I'd even buy that he has a gay son. But enough of these resurrections. Dusty just came back from the dead, for Pete's sake.
Personally, I think it would a hoot (and hot) for Brian to come in between Nuke and be the sex daddy Nuke need Brian to be :-)
Yep, he's a Gay
The spoilers are all over the place. Brian plants a wet one on Luke next week.
