Buffy Season 8 Comic Update: Issue 3

The third issue in the Buffy Season 8 comics from Dark Horse Comics – the series that is being overseen by Joss Whedon and continues where the cult TV show left off – is now available. And ever since I wrote an article about Buffy as a cult icon and opened the whole can of gay worms about Andrew’s sexuality, I feel a responsibility to continue reporting on what, if anything, gay fanboys will be interested in as new installments come out.

It’s another kickass issue filled with action, twists, and inside jokes to reward longterm fans. In gay news, Willow finally has plenty of page time, and we find out what’s been going on with her and Kennedy.

And Andrew is back, briefly. We see him playing strip poker surrounded by half-naked slayerettes and telling Xander not to bother to come to Italy because it’s so boring and there’s nothing (and no one) to do. It’s basically a variation of a joke that showed up in the season 7 “Storyteller” episode, when instead of focusing his video camera on the hot lesbian action between Willow and Kennedy (which any presumably straight guy would do), Andrew instead lingers on Xander fixing a window. So we’re still playing coy here with Andrew’s sexuality and running the “he still doesn’t realize he’s totally gay” joke to death and beyond. Sigh.

But, and it’s, to quote Pee Wee Herman, a big but … the issue also features what may be the gayest moment ever in the Buffyverse.

Here’s a major Spoiler so only read ahead if you want to know...

We totally see Angel and Spike naked in bed together!!!

In a single image, all theoretical Buffy slash fiction is rendered moot!

Well, not really. It turns out it’s just a dream sequence. And technically Buffy is lying between them. But it’s still the two guys in bed together, and it looks totally hot. And looking closely, is that? Oh my, is that a hint of a wooden stake … between Angel’s legs?

Seriously, Buffy fans, what do you think of Season 8 so far?

Spike and Angel have already

Spike and Angel have already done the deed at some point of their lives. In S5 of Angel Spike says: "Angel and I were never intimate... except that once". And Joss Whedon confirms that on the commentary of another episode.

Well, I've been collecting

Well, I've been collecting Season Eight and it's fantastic. The Buffy/Angel/Spike threesome was beautifully drawn - and hot! But as somebody said above, in "Power Play" and the DVD commentary for "A Whole in the World" it's pretty much confirmed that Angel and Spike are both bi and have both had each other, just like Darla and Drusilla have also ("The Girl in Question").
