Facebook Recap for "Torchwood: Children of Earth": Day 2

Last night Torchwood: Children of Earth (Day Two) aired on BBC America. With Jack (John Barrowman) literally blown to bits and Ianto and Gwen running for their lives, we're excited to present all the action in this second installment of our Facebook recaps for the five-part miniseries. Enjoy! (And you can check out Day One here if you missed it!)

Note: Also after the break, selected screencaps from last night's episode! As always, please don't spoil the show for others by putting sensitive information in the subject lines of comments.

    Another great episode

Loved Ianto, don't understand why Jack was missing from most of it since there are only 5 episodes, loved Rhys' cuteness, loved Gwen being all bad*ss, and loved the family support shown to Ianto. Can't wait for tomorrow!

On a side note: WHAT A GREAT MONEY SHOT INDEED! Now excuse me while I go change my shorts.

    Loved It!!!

. . .I did go "Oh, my God!" with the "money shot", I have to say.

(Lovely bum, Johnny; should you spy this! ;-) )

    Maybe I'm taking this show

Maybe I'm taking this show too seriously, but I find it depressing and cynical (especially the second time through, knowing what's going to happen). The whole cutesy Facebook entries strike me as inappropriate and not very amusing, considering the circumstances. For other episodes in Season 1 and 2, maybe, but not for this. I think I've had enough of it all. Sorry.

    It is possible...

This writer doesn't know the ending yet. Anyway, I feel like this kind of puts a much-needed cheery spin on the series.

    Psssst!

Its a TV show. Lighten up. 'Considering the circumstances'? There are no circumstances. It's fiction.

    You know what? I'm not 12. I

You know what? I'm not 12. I know it's "fiction." But this show is being canonized to a huge extent -- by the BBC, by fandom, and by this site as well -- and hyped up to encourage viewers to "take it seriously." So I'm going to. I've invested three years of viewing (more if you add "Doctor Who") into this greater story, not to mention money for DVD's and pendant books, magazines, etc. And why? Because I like the characters and want to watch them -- and I want to see them done well. I want to see them respected, when RTD or the BBC or whomever gives a damn or not. So when I offer a criticism that's born out of real disappointment -- and one that's shared by more than a few people -- to say, "lighten up" -- duh! That's a non response that avoids the issue -- which is that the tone of these "humorous" entries ignores that fact that this mini-series is about the torture and sacrifice of children, not to mention the killing and gutting of characters fans have been encouraged to know, identify with and even love. That's what it's really about.

    You said it yourself

You said, "Maybe I'm taking this show too seriously". I'm saying that you definitely are. Look at what you've said here; "this mini-series is about the torture and sacrifice of children". That's very Maggie Gallagher of you. If I disagree with you, does that make me pro-child torture? This isn't about real children or real torture, and to draw that equivalence is grotesque.

The fact that you've invested time and money in the show does not entitle you to anything, and that someone at AfterElton is offering up light-hearted recaps of the show does not suggest that they're not taking the show seriously, or that they don't care as much as you do. Comedy is not necessarily without pathos or sincerity, and people can tell jokes about things they care about or take seriously. You wouldn't be any less of a fan if you laughed at a joke. Your affection for the show seems very fragile, which is why I think it's an adequate response to say, 'lighten up'.

    And no, I didn't know that you're not 12.

    I understand

I understand how you feel :(

I GUESS THE REST OF THE COMMENT MIGHT BE CONSIDERED SPOILERS IF YOU ARE SUPER SENSITIVE TO THOSE

I thought I could enjoy recaps and reading discussions again, but it isn't working (not AEs fault, obviously), and reading RTD interviews makes me angry every time.

Day 2 was the last episode that felt a little like Torchwood to me, even before what happens later it stopped being Torchwood, it was this "political drama"/Quatermass revival that took itself so awfully seriously yet didn't bother to fix the plot holes or find a conclussion that wasn't the "SHOCKING, SERIOUS, ADULT" equivalent of the Doctor waving his sonic screwdriver.

ah, this whole thing is hilarious. I especially love "were you looking for the group: Jack harkness is a nice piece of ass?"

    Another great recap

I just love these recaps! The episode was quite rushed by the end because how/when did Gwen find Ianto at where they had Jack? And when Jack's body recreated itself...omg! So gross and creepy, yet totally cool. All in all this episode was quite good.
    sarah's picture

    how/when

Gwen and Rhys knew where to find Jack because Lois told them, gave them plans, etc. Ianto found where Jack was by using his sister laptop to track the ambulance, etc.

Gwen and Rhys got very lucky that Ianto showed up when he did and got rescued too. That's how everything works for Gwen, luck. It happens too many times for it to be fun.

    Great re-cap

This format is hilarious! The ep was awesome! I like that Gwen actually DOES something in this series besides whine. Season Three is proving to be a LOT better than seasons one and two, it's literally chair gripping stuff. it's wonderful! I'm loving every minute of it.

    Plus Ianto's family rocks!

OK, am I the only one

Ok, now I've been staying away from AE for the last little while to try and avoid spoilers. (Miss me???) However ran into one over on Twitter last week (and its not the one you think it is) so game over.

Am I the only one yelling at the TV at the start of the show WHAT ABOUT THE PTERODACTYL!!!

Come on, forget Jack, we know he's coming back we've still got 3 more days to go. Ah so I made the right guess about that major creepy scream from the trailers a few months back!

Like these Facebook recaps. Release some of the tension that builds up as you stay on edge for the 1 hour and 15 minutes while the show airs! Lovely word "wankers"  Sorry the Doc did not last one episode. Thought he would have made a good addition to TW. Lois is good too, smart, but just no special skills. Oh and thanks for the name of Agent Johnson. Had missed that one and thought my "Uber bitch" while it fit, was a bit demeaning to women.

Love the pacing and drama of this mini series. Not having any more worries about how can they do a 5 day story arc.

You know, I was just thinking the same thing about the Pterodactyl! Did it die in the Hub? Did it escape? Is it snacking on some juicy Weevil right about now?

    According to

this interview with RTD, in which the question is asked at the end:

    Quote:
DAN: Can you confirm or deny the death of the Torchwood pterodactyl?

RTD: (big laugh) I think she must have been blown up in that blast.
