AfterElton Briefs: Happy Australia Day, Oprah's "Lords of Fabulousness," "Skins" Sheds Viewers, and More!

  • Happy Australia Day! Its officially January 26th down under, and "the day commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there, and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland." And don't forget the fireworks! We thought we'd pay tribute to our Aussie readers by spotlighting some of our favorite Australian celebs, starting above, with sportsmen Matthew Mitcham (who's new to our site) and Ian Roberts.
  • I'm From Driftwood has spent the last two years traveling the world, and now they've released the first book collection of true GLBT stories.
  • The Oprah Winfrey Network has announced that the new prime time series Home Takeover with Simon & Tomas will premiere on March 28. The hosts are "Scandinavia’s most celebrated pair of interior designers, Simon Davies and Tomas Cederlund." Here's how the press release describes it: "Staging a complete home takeover, the 'Lords of Fabulousness' kick out the homeowners and move in. Simon and Tomas make the house their home — sleeping in the owners’ bed, eating their food, and playing their board games — as they get to work completely transforming the home’s offending rooms with the help of a team of contractors and a new design plan." So they're basically pushy in-laws.

Continuing our tribute, we have out Aussie musicians Anthony Callea, Darren Hayes and Sam Sparro.

  • Below you can see Jon and John interview the majestic Vanessa Williams at the post-premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race Season Three. I am so jealous.

  • The actual Being Human debuted it's third season in the UK just a few days ago, and BBC America has announced that it'll premiere in the States on February 19th, much sooner than anticipated.

And a couple of hot, out Aussie actors, Jaason Simmons and Tim Campbell.

  • Tom Ford's ego took some time out to sit down for an interview with Interview. "Some people are physically beautiful but yet they’re completely uninteresting, and thus they’re not beautiful. I detach the two. ... That’s why I think gay men make better designers."
  • Alan Cumming has responded to Richard Chamberlain and Rupert Everett's suggestion that gay actors stay in the closet: "I think it's so mean-spirited. If you're living a lie, that's not healthy, and I think it is really irresponsible of [Chamberlain] and Rupert to say these things."
  • Below you can see round two of MSNBC host Cenk Uygur VS. GOProud's Chris Barron. The last time they tussled resulted in Ann Coulter calling Cenk "retarded."

Finally, two of our favorite out Aussie women, Tabatha Coffey and Portia de Rossi.
